THere were $0 wins with Anita Gillette in 1981 on $50K and either Adrienne Barbeau or Joel Brooks during a 1991 $100K tourney(don't remember whether the celeb or contestant was giving the clues in those cases), and a few more on Donnymid. Celebs were briefed on bonus round material when they gave the clues(the celebs always gave during DOnny season one, and most of the time on Donny season two even though contestants could give in the WC in season two if they chose)
SIMMER DOWN! Her clues were actually good. I think Poston was not up to par. This girl was tops about it though blaming herself. Poston really didn't seem to give a darn. I have to say some of those subjects were difficult to get though.
@calalilygirl ....one word to describe Poston in his later years, whether in character or in real life: Befuddled. He just was not up to this, poor old guy...
There should be a new game show called, "What is dick clark saying" They could wheel him out and he can "talk" and whoever figures out the jumble that comes out of his mouth, wins the prize.
I don't know if this was an isolated incident or what, but Posten wasn't an idiot. He was a wonderful To Tell The Truth panelist for a long time and very smart in the realm of comedy. Perhaps Pyramid just didn't play to his strengths. Or perhaps this was just an off-day for him.
I just recently watched this week. How did Tom Poston get chosen to be on this show. He was terrible. For the record, although she got a goose egg here, she shipped 35k in her first episode as the giver. She was hilarious in it too.
Nope. Even the Coil shouldnt of been buzzed IMO. Thats the thing though with Pyramid, it just seems some shows, the judging on some clues are very lax, some where the judging is very stringent.
I don't know if anyone caught this, but if you checked SuperShow's List of Pyramid Celebrities, this is the only appearance of Tom Poston mentioned on the site. Maybe that explains how he looks here as if he never saw the show before.
I can't believe they actually let that air. I have never seen anyone not win anything on the big board. How stupid can you be! By the way, she needed to be buzzed on bed coils - total synonym.
You're not allowed to use synonyms. Since a bed coil IS a spring, they had to buzz her on it. She should have said, "your mattress" or something like that.
That was a very hard set of categories. Both the "shabby" and "standard" categories were killers. Nevertheless, they should have scored something. And I would agree that the contestant was more at fault. She didn't say much for most of them and she was buzzed on one of them.
Just goes to show you how difficult that game was. It was probably the most difficult game show ever. Probably not around anymore for that reason. You really had to think quickly to come up with an instant list of familiar objects with the topic in common. I know I wouldn't have fared too well as a contestant.
@pjkrahn0202 Because she wasn't the bad player and those categories were very broad to get easily and she knew it. Combine that with Postons slow reaction time, no wonder she moved on so quickly. It wasn't her.
I'm sorry but Tom Posten is a moron. Just look at his body language, and he gave all of five answers for all of those clues he's a dumbass.

I don't think Tom Poston knew (or was used to the fact) that when you receive in the winner's circle, you need to give the subject.

Marty Cohen (of "Solid Gold" fame) was once on the daytime $25K Pyramid, and turned out to be a fantastic player, despite appearing on it only once.
Please note that I've never actually seen Mr. Cohen's performance on Pyramid; I've only read about on the PyramidGameShowFanClub Yahoo Group.
