  • Seiffert is great in this - unfailingly beautiful tone which is hard to achieve in this passage

  • Not five-star material, surely, but I don't think Meier is as bad here as you all make out ... certainly her studio recording is worse. But I am still wondering what happened to that marvelous Fricka of the Haitink Walkure. I like Peter Seiffert's voice, though. I shall have to listen to more of him.

  • I love Waltraud Meier but this has to be the worst vocal shape she's ever been it... her Isolde is amazing but Leonore is NOT for her... She even handeled Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni better than this... and yes 2:20 is a very jarring note- and the staging- go watch the Janowitz/Vickers version and watch a real couples happy reunion...

  • @hillevifan - Actually, this is well-paced, and Meier and Seiffert do VERY well with this, wonderful passage. Yes, Janowitz/Vickers is very-fine, also, but THIS version is in the same category. Opinions only, of course!

  • and frau meier, could you please explain exactly what 2:20 is?

  • and 1:13 - wow thats off...

  • reunion of man and wife and they don't touch each other until half way through the duet? what insightful staging! eh..
