Dude I love you, you said you can only play as good as you sing so I heard something in my head then I sang it then I was able to play it. You really helped me a lot dude thank you.
scotty does your dvd teach you how to train ear with guitar efficiently? I've been playing 5 years however I have trouble on recognizing chords I can't even play a song without looking at sheet music or tabs. I know major chord sounds happy and minor chord sounds sad and all that... but then whenever I hear music on radio I can't even guess one single chord... so what am I do wrong? how do you learn to recognize chord?
@Jayce1219 We give you tips on how to do your own ear training but you can't expect too much too soon. You mentioned you have been playing for 5 years, but how much work have you done on your ears? It takes time and EXPERIENCE to hear chords and progressions. Don't be discouraged. Everone progresses at their own pace. You have to have a good knowledge of THEORY to train your ears too, so those are the two areas we focus on most in the course. Good luck. You'll do fine :-)
Very insightful... I had one question however... When using the singing technique how would u incorporate pinch harmonics and tremolo picking because I would imagine they would be hard to express via voice... Would you get a good foundation and incorporate said techniques afterwards... Or would you attempt to sing them?
this will improve your phrasing drastically...but what about if i want to transcribe some really fast scalar shredding? can you give me some tips?.....i've been playing for a little more than 5 years and damn my ears aren't really good in listening to fast pikcing thingy, but arppegios are really easy to transcribe for me even if it's lightning fast cause it's just the same as recognizing if it's major, minor or diminishedand augmented....whatsoever,i need some tips....
AWSOME MAN you rule dude...you should mention improve comes from the heart /soul /mind lol but yeah man im gettin ghtere love the way u teach deff great way to show begginner rather than learning songs...passion determination ...great teacher cant wait till your get all your vids up!!!
Sorry you're having trouble locating the video lessons. I just checked and they're all still there. Try doing a search for "Scotty West Guitar Lessons".
Excellent question. Yes. Scales and modes are very important ... but remember a guitar solo is NOT a scale. A solo is a MELODY. Scales are the RAW INGREDIANTS out of which you create melodies by messing around with the ORDER and DURATION that you play the notes in. When doing EAR TRAINING for soloing, you first ear train the scales ... memorizing what they SOUND like. Then you can begin to mess around and create interesting melodies out of these scales.
these videos are the absolute best videos out on the internet. they lay down the facts and present them in the best ways. i believe that if you don't do what scotty is saying in these vids you WILL eventually get bored of guitar. best lessons, period.
Well, I'm a self taught musician and I have music theory videos here on youtube & 300 subscribers but, I must say, Scottys videos are truly inspirational, informative, motivational, accurate, dynamic and systematic.
I hope he puts more of them up.
The 'ear training' area is a concept I haven't covered &, I'm unable to recognise chords, & scales or, work out a song by ear.
I've really enjoyed watching these videos and it's a credit to you as a very passionate, talented person, to share 'em.
mr scoot i was watching u be 4 i got a guitar and i no a lot about what u said on ur video i just cant paly so if u can pla make more lessons ok thank i realy thank u for makeing the lesson
Glad you liked the lessons. One thing to keep in mind is that you need to have a reasonable knowledge of THEORY in order to do any real ear training. How are you going to memorize what the Mixolydian Mode SOUNDS like if you don't know what it is? Once you know how these patterns are structurd, you can begin to learn what they sound like. You can do a lot of this on your own by PLAYING and then challenging yourself to SING the patterns.
Loved every video Scotty ^.^ Iam quite interested on the Ear Training aspect of the video. I want to know if there is some other way to do the ear training besides a course as money is a factor for me. Is there any sort of advice you can give or do you cover this more in videos you perhaps may be adding later?
