He had great nights like Hammersmith '79, but he wasn't at his best when singing live. At all.

Queen live, after 1979 is a dissapointment. The vocal harmonies are simply NOT THERE. Roger always is doing backing vocals but Brian barely talks to the microphone. Brian also never respects the original arrangements. Freddie would not only lower the pitch, but also never use falsetto... but because he fucked up lots of times because of that. His voice cracks a lot, believe me.

@Bior37 You should listen to the real live recordings, not the things they released... which are fixed in studio. Queen live at the Rainbow Theater (1974) is perhaps another studio release... so many overdubs. Wembley is full of that too.

Queen live was very far from the level the band had on studio. They're 2 completely different bands. One is Queen, the other one is some guys who simply don't care.

You should listen to any life version of It's a Hard Life... very lame!
