I'm not a LeBron hater but when you advertise that you're going to win a ring and then intentionally not give your best effort in a championship series then that's what happens. But there were two years, 1988 and 1996, in which Michael Jordan was statistically better (significantly) than any other year. And one of those two was his first year back from baseball. I'm not a LeBron hater but when you advertise that you're going to win a ring and then intentionally not give your best effort in a championship series then that's what happens. MJ always left everything out there, so when he screws up, at least he tried his best. Not so for LeBron. Plus the fact that he promised a lot of championships when he hasn't proven anything yet. He demanded a lot of stuff and always got it. He could miss curfews, get a private jet for his personal friends and just got a lot of perks being the only superstar. Well MJ had only played a couple of months, still he won 3 rings in the years after that, he was just too good for the game. He walked up to Phil Jacskon after their first threepeat and said: "Phil, I'm gonna retire." PJ was like, I need to give him a reason to keep playing. That caused him to lose his footing and allowed N.A to tip the ball. It's one of those asterik moments. However, it turned out well because it rejuvenated his competitive spirit and made him work his tail off that summer......They went 72-10 and won 3 championships over those next 3 years.

Yeah idster7.....he came back and shot a mediocre 41% in the NBA Finals after having a year to get in shape. In the game 6 closeout game he shot lower than 25% from the floor and hit only 5 FG`s. I guess he was rusty there too.

Field goal percentage & free throw percentage were both down. He wasn't playing up to his level because he didn't give himself enough time to get ready.

This is the same team that Jordan shot 6-19 against in their first meeting of the season in November. Half of his whopping 22 points from that game were at the line.

bubufubu ....save your out of sync/chemistry excuses. They were 13-4 in the games MJ played. They entered the playoffs on fire. MJ destroyed CHA in the first round. Nobody was complaining about him being winded when he dropped 48pts. in the double OT win. You should look at HOU who beat the Magic that year if you want to speak of who had chemistry issues heading into the playoffs. Rodman averaged a double double vs. Orlando he was huge. MJs stats weren't any better in 96 vs. Orl vs. 95.

The difference was their frontcourt in 96 didn't get bullied around like 95 with the addition of Rodman, and Grant being injured. They beat 72-10 CHI one time w/o Shaq. The Celtics were falling to Knicks teams with 2-0 leads, and losing series to Cleveland and Detroit, who collectively won 2 games versus the Bulls in those 2 years. In 1986 and 1987, MJ didn't have it, in those years I mentioned Bird didn't exactly have wings himself, and those are two of my favorites. When The Doc's era was done Bird prevailed, Bird was done it was MJ. The east hasn't been the same since the late 1990's

Retard, Bird & McHale were injured those years. Bird playing on a broken back in 91 still manages to beat the bulls 2 times. The only reason the late 90s Bulls win so many games is because 96 expansion with great teams like Vancouver and Toronto watering down the NBA. The 86 Celtics win 67 games with mchale out 14 games, if they played in 96 they would have won 80 games in that pathetic weak era.

One more thing: The Pistons from the early 90s had a better roster than the Bulls did before they started drafting some decent payers. Remember, it took the Pistons quite a few years to win a championship after drafting Isiah, so why sh-t on Jordan for not winning one until he had a decent supporting cast? I don't know about you, but only having Charles Oakley, Orlando Woolridge and an old George Gervin(and that was in a year when Jordan missed 64 games) isn't exactly my idea of a dream lineup.

As for James Edwards, he was ok, but again, he really wasn't that much better than Brad.
I'll admit losing Vinnie Johnson is a bit of a problem, but I kind of figure Wooldridge would have made up for that.

The 93 Suns were pretty dominant, actually. If I recall correctly, they actually had a perfect record in December, and led the league in points scored. Also, their defense was actually BETTER than the 86-87 Lakers, and they only allowed two points more per game than the 85-86 Celtics.

Cartwright had the sharpest elbows and new how to use them to cheap shot opponents and make it look totally accidental. Don't forget, in the western conference finals Worthy badly sprains his ankle against Portland and is basically useless in the finals, reinjuring it in game 4 and not playing in game 5. In game 4 Byron scott hurts his shoulder and can't play in game 5 as well and no Kareem. Not even Magic could overcome that.
