@ImIwilliamImI the story I've heard starts in 2001.

Arne was with a friend at the Gathering and went sleeping. But because he had the car keys with him his friend wasn't able to go to sleep 'cause his sleeping bag and camping mat were in the car. So the friend started shouting for his friend and after a while the rest of the crowd joined.

Not completely correct. The "about" 700 NOK is correct (to be precise it's 779 NOK). But as a foreigner you pay half the regular price. 392 NOK (43 EUR / 60 USD) when you can proof that you're from an another country.

Btw, I have a possible "theory" about where it started... HW-Lan 2006, a technician named "Arne" was in the bathroom, while the other folks needed him on the stage for some crap. In the meantime, they did some croud-pleasing, among the things were getting people to shout after Arne.
