Just look at their footwork, Sergio Martinez actually works at angles and has lateral movement, whereas Margarito simply walks forward with his hands up and pressures his opponent over time. Yes, sergio is willing to trade, but hes still a good boxer even without brawling. And Sergio is also much quicker than Margarito. You really can't compare Sergio to someone as crude (in the boxing aspect) as Martinez.

Martinez fights a very different style, with a lot more movement and less pure pressure oriented fighting style. Margarito is a pure pressure fighter, who fights one style and has no real adjustment to anything. He simply puts more pressure, increases work output, and tries to win that way. Martinez actually boxes and adjusts when needed.

@militar3rd you can't possibly be comparing Sergio Martinez to Margarito. Just look at their footwork, Sergio Martinez actually works at angles and has lateral movement, whereas Margarito simply walks forward with his hands up and pressures his opponent over time. Yes, sergio is willing to trade, but hes still a good boxer even without brawling. And Sergio is also much quicker than Margarito. You really can't compare Sergio to someone as crude (in the boxing aspect) as Martinez.

@jayo717 Yeah, this is true. But I mean in terms of styles, not in terms of greatness (although I think Sergio outdoes margarito there too). Martinez fights a very different style, with a lot more movement and less pure pressure oriented fighting style. Margarito is a pure pressure fighter, who fights one style and has no real adjustment to anything. He simply puts more pressure, increases work output, and tries to win that way. Martinez actually boxes and adjusts when needed.

They fought when both fighters were babies basically and maybe they should do it again. I am a Martinez fan and think he is one of the best pound for pound. @thecombatco i compared martinez with margarito in a sense that they like trading blows with fellow opponents. i really dont think you can solely trade blows with pacquiao and anticipate winning. think about it, the only time he had hard times is when he got outboxed. i.e. Morales and Marquez exploited that.
I also somehow think that his boxing style is somehow unorthodox, punching from weird angles and relies mostly on footwork. reminds me of a much bigger pacquiao

I must clear something up. Martinez biggest priority isn´t fighting neither Mayweather or Pacquiao. He wants Chavez Jr. The problem is, him, his father, Freddie Roach and Bob Arum are the biggest cowards in the sport of boxing and will do anything so the fight never happens. I also believe that Bob Arum payed a lot of money to the WBC to avoid the fight at all cost. Because of this, Martinez made the decision of not fighting for the WBC and under HBO cards ever again until this fight is made.
