  • @DarkAutumnNight , I did the climb with a church group from Snohomish. The guy sliding down at the end of the video has been a hiking buddy since boy scouts. If you don't have a group, you might want to check with RMI Guides

  • my dad has climbed it 6 times and im going with him next year

  • Worth it? To do it once, hell yes. Twice...? Maybe not. Lived in Seattle my entire life. Friend suggested we climb and I agreed. Climbed through RMI (amazing professionals, recommended). I talked to people who had summited and saw pictures of people reaching the top in t-shirts. That was not my exp. Climbed early Sept., winds gusting @ 60mph, departure temp at Muir was 17f w/out wind chill. All of my water froze, even wrapped in my GD parka. COLD, but the sunrise was 100% worth it..

  • worth it?

  • @TownPiligan

Worth it? Good question. I've looked at that mountain my entire life. To finally get to the top, and to look back down meant a lot to me, that and facing my fear of doing it. I'm glad I didn't wait until I was sixty. Doing it at fifty was tough enough. Though if one my my kids wants to do it with me, I guess I would have to get in climbing shape and do it again.

  • @terrylovepresents i climbed kilimanjaro with my dad last summer and it nearly killed him (nearly killed me too but he can never know that haha) and he was 53 last year and we are planning on doing another (but smaller) mountain, something in the US and this is one of the candidates.

  • He did great for 53! This mountain would be doable too, it helped me to get in some hikes at elevation in the weeks before. Around here, there are a lot of hikes like that to choose from. Leg extensions are good for when you are coming down. You may also want to consider Mt Adams. It may be more like Kilimanjaro. It's 12,281 feet and has less glacier then Rainier.

  • @terrylovepresents wow congrats on scaling rainier i remember back when i drove over 13 hours just to see it

  • The temperature? I went with two groups, one in June and one in August. I remember leaving the parking lot in the afternoon in June, and it being very warm. By the time we reached our first camp at Muir, it was well below freezing. A few weeks before, it was snowing below the parking lot. In August, the snow level was around 10'000 feet. Between Ingraham Flats and the top, it was windy and cold. Did I say windy? The winds can be pretty strong near the top.

  • nice! what was the temp. most of the time?

  • Nice!!!! Would LOVE to climb Rainier!

  • Sweet!

  • I've been to Rainier twice, once last July and then this April. So nice there!

  • Epic video!!! I hope to make the trip one day. Great video

  • love it

  • how long does it usually take to get to the top ?

  • If you leave the parking lot at 8:00 AM, a quick trip up and down would get you back to the parking lot at 5:00 PM the next day.

Some opt for two nights, which increases your chance for success. Just getting up to 10'000 feet the first time is pretty hard on the brain. That nauseous feeling passes if you sleep overnight. Some people have a hard time going to to 14,411 too quckly; younger people have a harder time with it then older people, a tip I got from someone in the medical field.

  • @terrylovepresents Can you get right up to the top like at the tip?

    Im a Midwest person

Ive been to the mountain states, SCARY!

  • @AccessDenied55 You go up and over the lip of the crater, and then you walk around inside the crater.

  • @terrylovepresents How deep is the crater?

    Can you camp in it?

  • You NEVER want to drink water made from snow up there without testing each sample. Snow now contains aluminum and barium, even strontium from chemtrails (SAG ALUMINUM PROJECT- SECRET) youtube that. I lost a tooth and a lot of bone mass from drinking Shasta snow.

  • @mikefromspace Melt the snow in your cooking pot then filter the water. Pain in the arse but you will keep your teeth.

  • very nice! makes me want to move out west.

  • i often hunt in the Ranier Timber Company where the mountain takes up half the sky, livin in the Pac NW rulez.

  • can you climb it in 1 day? (I am 19 and am exceptionally fit for my age). I have no climbing experience but want to do it this summer.

  • @poopman1618 Yes, but seems like you need some experience for the fastest climbers are not the fittest. If you have the altitude fitness, different from general fitness you can get it done by starting before dawn. Old posting but I felt inclined to share some insight.

  • good, but do not forget with your equipment, i was climbed in moon

  • Great Vid Terrylove, climbed it last July, great to see footage that I wasnt able to get, how good is that 1st beer a the bottom!

  • 0:11 - Great Success!!!

  • thanks for the video, my climb is set for july 19 2010, hope we are able to summet!!

  • I also am thinking of climbing Rainier.

But I have no experience, no idea where to get area information and a guide,

Could you be so kind as give me some advice? or an idea where get it?

    Regards

    Sergio

  • I'm doing Mount Rainer for an honors project...goshhh this is pretty

  • I love flying from Yakima to Seattle. Horizon Air always makes sure you get a good view of good ol' Ranier. One day, I'm going to clime her!

  • dude you fly from yakima to seattle? its only like 150 miles..

  • Just climbed this mountain last Aug ('09). Took a 4 day guided climb to the top. The last day involved a 2am start from Camp Muir and a 7am summit. Only 45 minutes at the top before heading down. The last couple of hundred yards to the summit is definitely shear will of mind over body. Fitness nuts will not have a problem getting to the top, but average Joes will find out quick if they prepared enough. Getting to the top is ONLY half the battle. you still have to hike down! Still worth it!

  • How long does it take to reach the top?

  • My brother lives in Olympia, Washington. He has a great view of Mt. Rainier from his house. Im going there next friday!

  • i have a great view too

  • love the music, please ID, thanks.

  • The music is from the band "Out From Underneath" OFUmusic. If you have climbed Rainier, or you are planning to climb Rainier, drop me a line, and I will send you the CD. Terry Love

  • Hey i'm actually planning on climbing this up coming summer with some friends. do you have any advice for climbing the mountain or anything we should train on and get prepared for the climb?

  • @rkimber21 Yes, train as much as you can, get your body in the best possible shape. The better shape your in, the more enjoyable the experience. Esp. if your doing it in 2 days. If you do it in 3-4 days its very easy, anyone in decent health can do it. Accidents occur when you are really tired and make poor choices on the descent.

  • @terrylovepresents i plan on summeting rainier after baker.

  • One time I climed half way up the mt rainier with just my shorts and t shirt it was fun i enjoy it every time I come there its a blast

  • gr8 job on the climb. Pretty awesome view from the summit, thx for the vid post.

  • wow ur lucky it didnt erupt on you, it can go at any time or given moment...but still...AWESOME U CLIMBED IT!

  • and and also where is mount rainier

  • Mt Rainier is in the Southern part of Washington State. Also in this video is Ben Jones of Lynnwood. He held the record for the fastest summit of America's 50 high points. Ben Jones was 18 years old when he made this climb. I was 50.

  • @darkeragon32 it is in washington near seattle

  • i have some questions, how high is the summit level? what is the youngest age that summited it? have any people died on it?

  • Summit is 14411 ft (4392 m)

  • I live in Olympia so I have a great view of Mt. Rainier. Something really cool about it is that sometimes you can look at it and see "a dead giant's bones".

Literally, there's a part of the mountain that looks like a giant's corpse.

The story is that a giant once lived up there and died.

  • love the video guy's. good job, mount rainier is a beautiful mountain and i think that's why we really love living in the northwest, beside's all the tree's,cause it sure ain't the rain..lol..nice climbing.

  • awesome! its on my list_>>a REAL achievment%$^

    good job 5 stars

  • I love Rainier!!! Climbed it in 2001 from Camp Sherman and wish I had some good video like yours! The great memories are still fresh anyway. Thanks for posting your video - looks like you all had a blast!

  • This volcano is not dormant, it will erupt in your lifetime.

  • I'm doing this in June 2009. Thanks for the video!

  • wow also my name is renier from philippines the moutain same my name watch my youtube type renier atendido

  • Great post!! I am moving to the Seattle area and it's a goal of mine to climb Rainier within a year of moving.

  • How many days did it take you to do this?

  • On this trip, we left the lot at 8:30 AM, spent the night at Camp Muir. The next day went went up to Ingrahm Flats, set up tents, then left for the top after Midnight, arriving at the Summit at about 7:00AM, then back to the parking lot at 5:00 PM

  • ARe there pre-set camps that provide tents and whatnot? I am climbing (more like hiking) Mt. Fuji this summer, and Rainier is next on my list. What type of logistics goes into this climb and are there guides that are available to contract out? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm really interested in mountaineering now. Thanks!

  • The big guide service operating there is RMI. You can find their web site at RMIguides

For most people climbing Rainier, you should get into the best shape of your life by training for months. It's important to get some vertical in. Only half those make it, and for many reasons. The training is important, but the mountain is covered in hundreds of feet of ice. It can create it's own weather.

  • My dad climbed this mountain 7 times.

  • Good Job, am planning on climbing it in maybe two or three years.

  • Could any of you spot Fort Lewis or McChord AFB (I live in that area)from the summit? Or. was it just too cloudy?

  • It was clear enough, but we were mainly on the South side looking over toward Packwood.

  • Nice vid terrylovespresents, but what I really want to know is what the name of the band is on your soundtrack?

  • The band name is "Out From Underneath".

their web site is the same as their name.

    I like it too.

  • Great job,Thanks for sharing with us all..

  • Great job! What kind of camcorder did you record this with? Did I hear in the video this was shot in August?

  • It was a single chip Panasonic MiniDV camera.

This was video from two trips up, one in June, and one in August. The ice on Rainier is hundreds of feet thick in places. You can encounter snow on the top any time of the year.

  • Solid work. I thought it was really exceptional when the sun went horizontally. You should summit Mt. Pilchuck, and then post it. The lookout has some really good views. Five of five stars.

  • Thats crazy good job and congratz how long did it take to get to the top I live in tacoma myself

  • We left the parking lot at 8:00 AM, 5.75 hours to Muir and set up for the night. Next morning moved up to Ingraham flats, a short nap, left for the top at 1:00AM in the morning. We reached the summit at 7:00 AM, then headed back down, collected our tents, and made the parking lot by 5:00 PM the next day. I think that during one 24 hour day, We got about one hour of sleep. fun Terry

  • Nice congrats good acheivement!

  • wow. very inspiring. thanks for posting this. Maybe someday I can do the same on my future summit climb.

  • i have a tremendous appreciation for that mountain and look at it every day too, but never like that! fantastic video and congrats on the accomplishment. thanks for sharing the view!

  • wow, congrats guys, thats a tough one...me and my dad were up there not too long ago, snow covered EVERYTHING, we were just hiking for fun, got to around 6300 ft. on the Paradise side...which side were you guys on?

  • We went up from the Paradise side. The shots at the end were at the parking lot there.

  • My kingdom to do this! I still have a long way to go and a lot of training before I can do glacier travel! Good work gents!

  • There are guide services there, but I went with a group from Snohomish Community Church, nice bunch of guys. They made sure that everyone made it to the top. We trained some together, and did a lot on our own. At 10,000 feet on the Mountain, you are affected by the lack of oxygen. And then you still have to go another 4,410 feet to the top. The extra breathing tends to dry you out. Everyone comes down looking dried out. Bringing gas to melt snow for water is important.

  • Nice video of a nice adventure. Did you use a guide service or train and go on your own? Congratulations!

  • Hopefully someday I'll be there too!!!I look at that mountain everyday....Wow...thanks for the visual!

  • where is this mountain?

  • In the state of Washington, about 80 miles South of Seattle. The top of the mountain is 14,410 feet tall, with glaciers that are hundreds of feet deep. It is one big chunk of ice on top to be sure.

  • *grin* 14,411 hahaaaaa and the debate goes on

  • Nice.. I plan to do this in my lifetime as well.. everytime you look at Mt. Rainier you must have a laugh and say Hah, I concured you.

  • I climbed her and it's really self-doubt in your own mind that you conquer! She allows you the experience, sometimes. You can do it, do some mind-numbing amouts of cardio and strength training for those hips and glutes. I'll hook you up with a good program!

  • awesome, I was actually there probably within weeks, the trails totally looked like that. I summited on the 14th of July in 02. thanks for sending it my way.

  • Excellent - both the climb and the video! Brought back some great memories for me. Loved the post hike comments, particularly the "anticipation" one.

  • Nice camera work. Wow, you had a ton of snow!

  • snow pack's supposed to be good this year too.
