  • such a lousy illustration

  • They've got the best guy to explain GIT but they didn't care at all about the production quality of the video... what a shame.

  • Wow. Talented guy, unlistenable audio.

  • When not using 'git commit -m "my message", it brings up a basic text editor so I can type my commit message. How do I leave this screen?

  • @kendrefor Depends on the editor. Assuming that it is Vim, you press ':' and then 'x'.

  • I'm listening to this on my newly purchased studio monitors. Oreilly please get a condenser mic for your screen casts so I won't feel I have wasted $2.500 on new monitors :-)

  • wow really amazing - thanks alot!!

  • I think it's WebEx causing the issue, I have had the same problem in other webinars, just switch to gotomeeting or something!

  • Excellent tutorial, the sound is better if you turn it louder (I think it's the software rather than his mic). Thanks Scott!

  • If you were to record it 1000m under the ocean it would sound much better.

  • There's a series of comprehensive tutorials on the basics of GIT atwww.ava.co.uk, if you just go into their support and faq's there's a great series of videos on git just published!

an overall tutorial cut into bitesize chunks... use it as a reference tool for myself learning git over the past week and the audio's better, I think the guy that did it worked on Smart GIT or something.

  • @MrLovetech To bad their webpage is so horribly ugly with a design that is so dated it instantly feels like a spam/filler webpage.

  • Sounds like he's teaching me Git over walkie-talkie.

  • @opyate Comprehensible nonetheless :-)

  • audio is so poor... leaving the video in 10 mins... :-(

  • It is extremely shameful for an international publishing house like O'Reilly, that his people are working with a $ 5 mic from Walmart!

  • Sound is pathetic!

  • audio - -;

  • shitty audio

  • Look people, the audio does suck, but it's still intelligible, even to me, and I'm not a native speaker (I have difficulties understanding many English pop songs). So get over it, will you!

  • @hyperthreaded If it was just anyone, I'd be more willing to over look it, but it's a major player in Technology publishing, I have higher expectations than this from them.

  • reup with new audio cmon

  • How to Undo a last commit ??

  • "I would [set the default editor to] emacs, but then I wouldn't be able to remember how to exit it" @17 mins hahaha!

  • Great video. While audio was lo first, I got over it quickly. Really packed with content

  • the sound on this video is ridiculous, distracting and unforgivable. can't watch.

  • git lol

    (typo)

  • Yeah,, it always shocks me that people record in HD or something and use an audio codec from the 60s! It may have something to do with them wanting to sell a better version, but still!

  • @skdkskdk If it was the 60's it would be all analog and warm. This is digital audio from the 1980s. I think the blackface ADATs were way better than this.

  • Audio *does* matter, this is basically painful.

Scott has a series of more polished movies up @ gitcasts.com

  • This was great, exactly what i needed, thanks a bunch

(Can you do something about the sound though :) )

  • TYVM!

  • Please re-record audio track.

  • Why sound soooooo bad?

  • Content was great. Definitely a great demo to help wrap my head around what is going on with git. This is going to change my workflow significantly.

Sure the sound wasn't very good. It sounded like the guy was presenting from a cell phone or laptop mic. Took all of 30 seconds to get over it. You all should try doing the same.

  • Great tutorial, thank you :) The sound is terrible but you'll get used to it :p

  • Can't imagine why this video has 18488 views.. Only watchable if you're deaf. :(

  • Looks like audio is just a bit over-compressed, apart from the fact that it's indeed poorly recorded in first place.

  • terrible sound. o'reilly, seriously?

  • terrible sound. o'reilly, seriously?

  • The audio is extremely distracting. It's unfortunate because the demo seemed rather good, although I didn't watch the entire thing since the audio gave me a bad headache.

  • AUDIO IS INTOLERABLE (Sorry to shout.)

  • Sorry, I simply can't watch this, the sound is disturbing. :(

  • the audio is horrible. please fix.

  • There is no problem with the audio. It's a robot speaking!

  • @kowdermeister well, even i could make a robot that sounds better

  • @totemizer Google "text to speech" does better :)

  • They should use a condense mic such as Audio-Technica AT2020 USB Condenser USB Microphone $100 only

  • Speak and Spell was my first computer!

  • Epic Fail on the Audio ...

  • How is O'Reily not embarrassed to put their name on this video? The visual is fine, the audio should be an embarrassment to them.

  • The sound makes the Youtube Vuvuzela button redundant.

  • Excellent video, it's a shame that the audio sucks so bad

  • Yeah, seriously O'Reilly, do you listen to your videos after you post them?

  • Have no idea why O'Reilly always ends up with such horrible sound. Surely they don't monitor user comments.

  • @geminiwing It's a webcast, so the audio is compressed for mass distribution

  • The audio on a number of the O'Reilly Webcast have the same poor sound quality.

  • Oh my... as said before the audio quality is absolutely dire... I can't sit and listen to that for an hour...

  • The audio quality is horrible. Worse than a phone, super tinny.

  • lol 'agitmemnon'

    Clever monkey.

I suggest an hour or two of ADR work on this video.

  • too bad the sound is that awfull, I can't understand anything.

I'm sure Scott did great once again, so
