This company makes two chainless bikes. Both are shown in this video. The purple one (their "Penza"), uses shaft drive. The green one (their "Veridon") uses belt drive.
@charlesdyfis Thanks for the comment! It's actually not cumbersome at all to adjust the seat- we use a marker to mark the height we like. Simple as that! BF Tikit is a great bike but also priced at ~USD$1,200. I guess that's a compliment to Abio Bikes. =)
Hmm. I like the Gates belt drive, I like internally geared hubs. However, the folding mechanism looks much more cumbersome than the hyperfold Tikit I'm used to, and needing to worry about getting the seatpost height right every time one unfolds is Not Cool.
It sure looks interesting, but I only see one gear there. I know that's fine for a lot of uses like cruising, but I'm ont sure it's the best for getting around the city.
@FoldingBikeLife Our folding bikes come with either 3-speed or 4-speed. Both are internal hub so it looks like 1-speed but it's not. Thx for watching!
@ChainlessRev Very cool to hear. I haven't had much experience with internal hubs, though I know they're out there. Any place in NYC to check one out?

They fold like the old Camping bikes in Europe 25 years ago. I still like them though, no need for roof rack to transport them also saves on fuel and easy to store.
i definitely like the verdion model. it has a more distinctive look to it and i like the belt drive system as well. by the way, what was the name of the tune that you were using for the video.
Belt drives do suffer from a reduction in acceleration when compared with shaft drive. However there are no moving parts on the actual belt meaning the roller pins are less likely to be worn out.
The last bike isn't a chain it's running on a belt, I checked their website they have no chain bikes. Also there's several bike companies out there using belts. Heck if a belt a move a harley i don't think a bicycle is a problem. Strida bikes which are also belt driven said their belt is good for 50,000 kms. so good luck wearing it out.
Where can I buy one? Email to their address comes back. Are they still in business?

its not "chainless" it just has a rubber one instead of a metal one. im sure the rubber one would break more easily than a metal one
channyboi1191 1 year ago
@channyboi1191 That's a misconception, channyboi. Our belts actually outlast most chains in the market and they do not break! It's that tough!

so it's chainless when you fold it.. but has a chain when it is being unfold?

He also changed the shaft drive system into a belt drive and swapped out a few components too!
He was tired so he freshened up and changed his clothes and then off he went! =)

is the belt drive made of rubber? because if its rubber, it probably would wear out a lot faster than the average chain drive. just asking

The bikes have Gates' carbon belt technology. The Gates belt is highly durable and are used in many industrial applications.
