I'm too lazy to read all these comments and stuffs. But I'd like to know: Do you use effects (distortion etc.) between guitar and amp or in effect loop or is this sound "raw" sound straigth from the guitar? Sound pretty good I say.
I like the Kranks. If im not mistaken Jon Donais, from Shadows Fall uses Krank. I fucking love their tone. Really I got to spend two days at guitar center and compare the Peavey 6505 plus and Krank in person.
i think krank better than peavey cuz i have been using peaveys forever and all of them get muddy and crappy at high volume , and when i use krank, engl they sound better at high volume
most people hate Krank amps, I love em, I own the Orignal and the + models, their sick, Most metal players will need a tube screamer or an overdrive of some sort, I use the Maxon ts808 and I get a insane tone. The rev is for Jazz, to Country, to Metal. The Krankenstein is straight up a metal amp, Very Kick ass.
Ive played a Rev that i loved and a rev i hated. the good one had that go-for-the-throat tone, but the other sounded too grainy, no matter what settings i had it on. They were at approx the same volume too.
Go on the Krank forum and ask around for different settings. These amps are very versatile. Krank is also coming out with a new amp called the Nineteen80. I love my KRANK!
actually, I've heard some tones out of this that would be perfect for Motley Crue, Ratt, WASP, ect.... It's very capable of that "modded Marshall" tone. So I'd stick with it, but if you don't, I'd get a Vintage Modern Marshall and then get it modded by Voodoo Labs. I play a mix of goth rock (Think The 69 Eyes) and sleaze rock, with a bit of thrash influence, and I totally want a Rev or a Nineteen80, but no where in my area sells Kranks... :(
i have the marshall 1960 cab with the krank rev ser 1 and had the output thansformer modded to a usa made jmc800 for 6l6s and it fucking rocks the upgraded transformer give it a lil more low end and a bigger fatter fuller tone with the transformer being a lil more beefy and having a lil more iron to it
well i dont think there is a comparison between 6505 and krank rev.....i ordered a rev plus should be here anyday now ..........but the rev or krank is just a awesome amp if u can afford it get it
I had a Krankenstien and I loved it and hated it at the same time. It had the metal crunch and midrange more so then any other amp I had but, lacked warmth, saturation and sustain to its tone.
kranks are so over rated. they lack so many qualities that are good in an amp. ive tested out some peaveys against it(like the 6505 plus, 5150ii and xxx) and they both just blew its ass away. the only thing that is good on kranks is their cleans. the distortion sounds like its dead. and i put my framus cobra against this and it made the krank sound like a marshall mg against it.
yeah ok...I have a peavey 5150 block letter, a dual rec and a krank...and i wouldnt say they blow it away...otherwise i would have sold it by now. And really..compare it to a framus cobra? Its only double the price...not really a fair comparison. Thats like comparing the dual rec to a diezel
I doubt that...especially the 5150 II. The krank isnt a simple amp...that sweep knob really complicates things. Also...it isnt good at low volume...the 5150 is...thats my experience. You really have to open the krank up and tinker with the sweep and eq to get it right
wtf these are way to much. all these krank amps kick ass and i cant buy on, im here as a 13 years old with 95 bucks how do buy these things? overall i love them i wish i can get the chance to try one
you can get a power breaker, which means you turn the pre-gain up on the breaker to where its all the way up, then turn the amps master up. you get the amps complete tone at lower volumes.
sorry im really not sure if all of that is correct. if im wrong, dont hesitate to correct me. thats just what ive heard
essentially thats what the guy already said, a hot plate IS a power break. but theres only so much it can do... you aint gonna get your amps full cranked tone at bedroom volume. its more for giggin when you have to keep at a lower level, jsut to get that extra push.
I agree. Krank is my favorite amp right now besides the Peavey 6505 Head which I love to death. I saw impending doom live a few months back and they were using Krank full stacks and it was unreal heavy live. the heaviest set I have ever seen live.
The Rev at around 4 is pretty awesome. It keeps itself together nicely. Using an Maxon OD808 pedal in front just tames the Low-end a bit, it's pretty big on the Rev. The 6505 on the other hand starts to sound quite compressed after 4.
I prefer it around 2 minimum, then the full tone is there. At the level of this video it is still quite loud in the room even though it is only just over 1 on the dial. It is no good at "bedroom level".
yeah for sure, the peavey is all crunch with no character and warmth, i think the krank has a little better tonality for live playing and this is the amp by itself, if you throw an EQ in front of it it'll sound amazing
@GuitarKranK Amp - Treble 75% Mid 50% Bass 35-50% depending on the harmonics used. All knobs on guitar 10 or if you go higher, then max. And use treble pickup for shredding down low, but for soloing, tap it up to the neck pickup. :D
I think the Rev is tighter and more aggressive sounding overall which is what I prefer. The 6505 may cut through a band mix a bit better due to it's more present mids, but in my opinion the Rev has a bark/snarl that the 6505 can't beat.
well i will say this krank heads are not for the bedroom or low volume even with a hotplate u gonna have to turn it up to a decent level if your not in a band forget it i had one didnt like overated and overpriced what brought attention to krank was dimebag otherwise they would be a struggling company i am not dising krank just could be better and more affordable this amp is loud as hell sound like shit at a low volume i guess im not meant for tubes but we'll see
Kranks sound to dry for my ears but, they do possess a precise tone at high gain better then most other amp companies. Thats one advantage they have but, its a catch 22.. Personally I love Mesa's as they have the whole package for getting metal tone.
Nice Krank's raw

Exact rig i have. Though im having trouble getting a satisfactory tone. There is a terrible fizz and crackle i just cant eliminate.

i played this same setup when i played my last show with my band
and my krank sounds soooooo good with the mesa cab, i've had it going through an orange cab and the mesa is just amazing!

i think peavey got more balls in the low end, hence this sounds cleaner. hard to choose...

15viceandvirtues 3 years ago 2
Yep, sounds better when it is louder, but the vidcam mic distorts too much, that's why the amps were dialled in so quiet.
GuitarKranK 3 years ago
hey man, whats the rev 1 sound like at high volumes like 4 or 5, does it break up or stay contained without any pedals?
dillongarrett 3 years ago
The Rev at around 4 is pretty awesome. It keeps itself together nicely. Using an Maxon OD808 pedal in front just tames the Low-end a bit, it's pretty big on the Rev. The 6505 on the other hand starts to sound quite compressed after 4.
GuitarKranK 3 years ago
so do you like the rev 1 + better than the original?
dillongarrett 3 years ago
hey men what's your setting on this video??
THx
gurator 3 years ago
I think something like this (out of 10):
Pres: 5.5
Sweep: 3.5
Bass: 7
Mid: 4
Treb: 5.5
Master: 1 (just over)
Gain: 6
GuitarKranK 3 years ago
dude, do you think the rev1 sound good at low volumes?

GuitarKranK 3 years ago
Definitivly not. The rev 1 it's realy crap at low volume. If you don't put the amp over 2 or 3 the sound it's like a metal zone without bass..lol
gurator 3 years ago
yeah for sure, the peavey is all crunch with no character and warmth, i think the krank has a little better tonality for live playing and this is the amp by itself, if you throw an EQ in front of it it'll sound amazing

Rev = RAW aggression
6505 = a slightly more refined aggression
IMHO of course.
