When you are on your inventory/ crafting screen, click the pad lock on the top left. You clicked on in accidentally and it means you can't click to change your equipped item.

6: You can make torches by killing slimes and having wood in your inv, if you have that press esc and look at the right of you screen, you can make stuff there. you will also find torches there you can make if you killed some slimes and have some wood.

7: You are pretty bad at this game xD

8: Make wooden walls in the back of you house or else monsters can spawn there. (make them by creating a workbench and standing close it).

9: read some basic stuff on the terraria wiki.

10: have fun.

TIPS:

1:You start with five heart, but you can find more underground. (you have to break them with a hammer)

2:Chop trees down at the lowest part of the tree, then you get more wood from it.

3:The guide that spawned at the start was the guide, he is kinda helpfull for starters.

4:if you have 50 silver and a 2 houses with, table, chair, light, and entrance (and walls in the background) a merchants will come to that house.

5:you can make a sword that make a whole circel. (comment is to long :S)321

hey poncho, the guy at your spawn is the guide, by building a room, and adding a light source ( a torch) a table (crafting table does count), a chair, and a door, and he will move in, then when you build more rooms in the same way, other npc's will move in, some you can buy things off.

you need back walls in your house! If you craft wood walls and place them in the block in the background it will place a wall so you cant see through the whole world! :)

No damage is taken by items, tools, weapons so forth.

A nice tip, when chopping trees, make sure you chop from the bottom of the tree. Trees won't grow back, so it's best to totally clear them off and then plant a new one.
