shit I have walmart mtn bike that the front derailer broke off 3 days into it with just normal riding, got an old one that has to be over 20 years old and it works alot better (derailleur) I'm surprised the rims aren't bent up to shit yet
I just found one of those Mongooses in the garage, abandoned by its owner after the wheels were no longer true. Judging from this, it was probably better left there.
@crclawn My Schwinn is a decent bike. It never broke down on me due to crappy parts. I told my buddy not to buy a Wal-Mart bike but he didn't listen. Then I told him it might be dangerous riding that bike on the trail. He didn't listen. Now that bike is broken and he bought the same Schwinn I own.
@tpdinh77 I have the same bike same color same size and I beat the shit out of mine, and mine never breaks and the derailer is his dumbass fault, mine only rarely skips off but goes right back on.
I just want to say that I bought a walmart Mongoose Mt Bike in April and since then it has not failed. The only thing I had to replace was the rear break pad. I take Mt Biking and Downhilling at Peters Canyon and around Irvine Lake. I'm not a hardcore rider, and ride for fun/exercise like you guys :] I even pass "advance" riders with pro bikes and take hills at full force. This is my first bike, but I plan to buy a Mongoose Boot'r or a Cannondale Claymore 1. Keep Riding!
@killaoe14 Either go to a real bike shop or craigslist. You have to know a good bike from a cheap department store bike if you plan on buying one from craigslist.
@killaoe14 look for: giant, univega, cephas, trek, specialized, marin, diamondback (certain ones), salsa, fit, haro, gary fisher, GT, fuji, kona, jamis, klein, bontrager, alpinestars, and others. this is just to name a few. lol there are more shop bikes than dept bikes. as long as you can stay away from bikes that look just like other ones. and always look for no threadset. (clamp on stem) :)
@killaoe14 The best bike shop around OC is the path in fullerton. Craigslist is total bull crap and everyone is trying to sell 15 year old bikes for full retail. I'm really not going to broadcast the best place to buy a used bike because that will screw me over, but if you do your research you'll figure it out.
Funny, I thought he stopped to hook up with the girl.
Seriously though I just realized that EVERYTHING I have bought at walmart has broken! I bought a stand up closet and made sure to pay extra for the sturdy one, broke in 3 months, I bought a can opener, broke in 2 months, I bought a rice steamer, broke in 3 months.
Do not buy ANYTHING at walmart but deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo, TP and PT.
@dueceandhalf That is hilarious. If you buy a bike at Walmart and take it to a LBS, they will charge you the premium rate bc. they are mad you didn't buy a shop bike. The whole point of a wongmart bike is to DIY and save cash when you are nearly broke.
I got a Mongoose bike from Wallie World as well. This is what happened. I was flying down a giant hill al I pulled the brakes at the bottom. The back pads flew off. Not a good thing. My Mongoose Freestyle Overt on the other hand, is from Toys R Us and works perfect. I did the same thing in the rain. Stopped very smoothly.
it seems only mongoose bikes do this ive put my bike that i got from walmart through alot like i drove the bike in water over the tires and ive ran into a tree and dident hurt a thing and i do wheelies alot
I bought a Mongoose from walmart as well. Similar to this one. Same thing happened. Rear deraileur broke off. Lucky me, I was within walking distance from my house so all was ok. This year I got a Genesis from Walmart. Sorry. Can't afford the $500 bikes at the LBS.
For the back camera, put some foam and rubber to minimize shaking from bumpy roads. The foam takes the shock and the rubber minimize it even more making it when you add deshake and stuff like that to the video you have a better quality.
Like anything else, there are varying levels of quality within a lineup. The XR-75 is a $100 bike. What can you expect? Triple the budget and pick up a Snare, now you have a decent full suspension, disc brake bike with nice Shimano shifting equipment that is just fine for non-competition use. About the only complaint I have with the Snare is it's rather heft 36 lb curb weight. And the stock seat sucks. Otherwise, great bang for the buck.
i got a mountain bike from wallmart 2 days ago the first time i road it my chain broke and got stuck around my wheel i fliped and did a face plant.... i was using it on a street fuck you wallmart
Im all for going to a good LBS but holy crap the attitude these guys have.. Almost makes me want to buy at walmart and have no interaction with employees at all.
Employee: "Broken Spokes? Thats what you get for buying crap from walmart"
Me: "For your information, My brother bought this bike used from you 2 years ago, wheres your fucking supervisor?
Employee: "I'm sorry I didn't mean to come out like that."
I walked out with my bike.
I go to another LBS now and even they have bad CS.
wait a minute.....is the guy with the orange schwinn making fun of a guy who bought a wal-mart mongoose? Just give yourself sometime, your schwinn will take a dump too
theres nothing wrong with the bikes you get at wal-mart...there is, however, something wrong with the special ed retard that put them together. YOU MUST GO THROUGH YOUR BIKE WITH A FINE TOOTH COMB BEFORE YOU TRAIL RIDE IT! tighten every bolt correctly, tune it correctly, and make sure the tire pressure is correct. I bought a Genesis V2100 for 150 bucks. Aluminum frame, disc brake in the front, and shock on the frame. It handles great. jumps just fine also. the shocks can easily be upgraded cheap
@Mataleaoexpert My brother tried riding with me on that same bike. It is pretty good for the price, BUT did fall apart after a month of real mountain biking. Handle bars bent, shock stripped it's threds, rim bent. I've been handing down parts I have upgraded (fork, derailleur, DOUBLE WALLED RIMS, handle bars, and pedals). Frame has held up for him, knock on wood. For serious down hill, drops, and jumps you need to get a tough bike. Your life sometimes depends on it!
Mrpoxman, you're obviously not a MTBR. It is dangerous to ride a dept. Store bike in a place like Turnbull. The frame itself is not made for stress. The welds are too weak, not to mention the overweight steel frames.
@MrPoxman Im not being harsh, but have you ever even rode a $300+ dollar bike? Or does it just sound like to much money for you because you've never paid that much for one and think its crazy?
My buddies and I usually go every Saturday real early. We start before 7am. You're welcome to join. We aren't hardcore just like to ride for exercise and fun.
well sometimes bikes r good at department stores. it just the he bought a MONGOOSE XR 75 which cost about $130.00. the MONGOOSE SNARE is over $300.00. THATS A VERY GREAT BIKE, THE SNARE BY MONGOOSE.hey i live in el monte and never been to these trails.let me know when u go next time.
I don't think they will let dirt bikes or ATV's on this trail. Mainly for hikers and bikers. I've never seen any dirt bikes or ATV's since I've been going here.
I ride a schwinn rocket comp from Performance Bike cost around 600 new. Cheap bikes can keep up with expensive bikes it's a matter of how strong the rider is. But the quality of dept store bikes aren't good. He's a heavy guy too about 190lbs so he pus a lot more stress on the bike and yes he probably didn't check his bolts. Nice vids. How did you get them to be so smooth?
I rIde mongoose . i have a walmart mongoose Snare and it can keep up with any thousand dollar bike . i could prove it check out my videos. your friend probably didnt check if all his bolts were tight. cam looks good . what do u ride??
