  • christopher reeve -- the original swag

  • that...is the creepiest thing...

  • i still cannot believe that the person who made me believe a man could fly suffered so much in the end :_(

  • I Hope he wasn't taken for granted in doing this commercial. It was his dream to walk again and television made it happen...now he is walking in Heaven with his dear wife never more to hurt or be crippled.

  • too bad he never lived to experienced it. RIP Chris and Dana

  • Beautiful.

  • It's Christopher Walken (Walking) get it?

  • If it wasn't for stupid misguided conservatives this could be a reality.

  • What is this song?

  • TIMMEH = Reeve

  • @lesrambles1 TIMMEH = lesrables1

  • Dude this made me tear up...

  • His head is too small for the body in that first long shot at 0:33

  • wow this is real tear jerker, than its also gives u hope too!

  • Man I miss Chris...

  • if only this really happend

    right?

    cause i dont know

    but he died

    sad

  • christopher reeve was 6' 4"

  • I wonder how many fetuses he scarfed down to have that much momentum and agility?

    RIP Supes

  • @doddsino

show some respect, man.... that's not even funny.

  • if only...

  • who is christopher reeves hero......

    chrisopher walken... lol

  • How can you NOT love this commercial. Regardless if it was CG'd, to see The Man of Steel walk again was something to behold.

  • i feel bad for his children. First he dies, then his wife shortly dies of breast cancer.

  • To all of you who are disabled or know someone who is trust in the Lord I promise you the Lord will see it you will walk again!!! you will walk again in Heaven and dance with the Angels!! all you good people with this disabled hurt trust the Lord he will replace your sorrow with love!! Amen

  • YouTube screwed up the audio track, probably made some people go deaf from the static. I replaced it with some Beethoven. You'll find the original audio on some other video that copied mine. Sorry about that.

  • Wow, I have no idea what happened to the audio on this video. I posted this thing 4 years ago and it's been fine for at least 3.5 years. Sorry about that...YouTube must have screwed with this.

  • @OaGuardian

Believe it or not, I'm a Moderate w / Libertarian leanings - w / means that I catch crap from Liberals, too. BTW, Christopher Reeve said that about Nancy Reagan backing stem - cell research. Look it up.

  • what´s with the noise....

  • @mz854f

    Yeah, the noise sucks...

  • yea fuck it in the assholes!

  • fuck this video in the ass. just get rid of the audio rather than post this annoying bullshit

  • @zelemont yea, in the ass!

  • just to think if he would of torn that shirt with the "S" there i would of cried harder

  • WTF??? you better fix that sound and then re-upload it again! this sounds god-awful

  • what the fuck? are you trying to ruin my speakers? You douchebag!

  • Doesn't anyone notice THE FUCKING AUDIO?!

  • Whoevers body that was was tall enough to be Reeve. At 6'4"

  • WTF is up with the audio..ffs...hurt my ears

  • omg this one makes me cry =( he was so close to getting to walk again he soo close to it everyone and including me wanted see him walk again =(

  • y'know what would be awesome?

    stephen hawkings

  • I remember when this commercial aired back in the day. First thing I thought of when Christopher Reeve died.

  • This is, without a doubt, the most inspiring commercial I've ever seen. The message is just so powerful...if we work hard enough, and long enough, we will cure all these horrible diseases and ailments that plague humanity. That's a message we all need.

Even though it was too late for this to happen to Mr. Reeves, I pray that it will happen for others in my lifetime.

  • @Leprechaunproduction

Maybe since Pres. Obama gave the go - ahead to continue stem - cell research, & Nancy Reagan backed him, other people will have the dream that Christopher Reeve had ( & Michael J. Fox still has ) realized. The Republicans & the Religious Reich tried to do away w / a lot of medical & science funding.

  • I can't watch this without choking up.

However, I didn't remember this being a commercial for an investment company. I think I've always assumed it was promoting perhaps a non-profit organization to support research or something.

  • i just cry like a baby at this ad

    i mean

    Christopher was there

and to think about that he's gine makes it just worse

  • Christopher Reeve was some kind of man. I wish this is how it might have happened. I wept.

  • Comment removed

  • Kind of sad, but Nuveen Investments is now in big trouble due to the collapse of the auction rate security market. Not sure how much of this commercial they actually believed or hoped for, but I know they didn't see this future for themselves in 2009.

  • man of steel, and not just in that way

  • very powerful commercial, I remember watching this and crying.

  • I concur with 'roseybutt'.

  • Man, he really was Superman to me and alot of people....this ad made me cry a bit.

  • i wish that had happen

  • @roseybutt. The technology exists, its just a matter now of getting the politicians and the lawyers away out of it and letting science be science.

  • yeah your totally right

  • Aww too bad it was not real

  • Wow, Ken... You're a lot taller than the box said.

  • Three words: Uncanny valley effect.

  • (lol) Go back to Escapist, jackcarver.

  • wow! thats a big word for you, i wonder where do yuo heard it???

  • It's ironic in some ways how the guy mentions 2004 the only numbered date, which sadly was the year Christopher Reeve died.

  • so true...this is an excellent commercial

  • I hope this would be real.

  • its crazy how they mentioned aids was going to be cured by 2006? ummm we are in 09 already same shit different phones lol.

  • @SKRAPP718

the hollywood movie "a cure for aids" coming soon.... lol

  • @lesrambles1 or maybe a cure for crohns disease

  • if only this way, unless he got to walk again and give hope to millions of people. i miss you christopher

  • STOP THE HATE

    rip christopher

  • no king im with you on that. its just an all around bad commercial. i dont understand what they were trying to prove

  • You know, I always felt bad for the man having an accident like he had but am I the only one who finds this commercial to be a tad bit tacky and patronizing?

  • wow..i bet the people that made this commercial feel like assholes now that he's dead..and it was supposed to be a future thing, but he died like 4 years later after this came out. bummer.

  • i am glad chirstopher reeve was able to walk before his death. It must have been such a joy.

  • this is computer graphics and chroma key, he never walked, this was like a "vision" for the future.

  • the commercial also says aids was cured. i didn't know that. well looks like safe sex is a thing of the past

  • Omg That made me cry. It was a very nice commercial. RIP Christopher Reeve

  • people called the station where this commerical was aired and actualy wanted to know how he was able to walk again

  • Now, that is really stupid.

  • Anyone find it a bit odd that at the end of the commercial, the father holding his son looked over at his child that woke up for a second on his shoulder?

    RIP Christopher Reeve

  • RIP Christopher and Dana Reeve xx

Chris you've always been and still are my superman .. God bless you two xx

  • God bless him xx

RIP Christopher and your wife x

You are still and will always be MY superman x

  • Read his touching biography written after his terrible horse accident in 1995 when he unfortunately became quadarplegic : Still Me edited to editions The Random House Publishing Group (USA) ISBN : 0-345-43241-X. Then, watch all his movies so that we dont forget him!

    Sincerely yours,

    Myriam

  • I did the same thing you did and I even went to Mackinae Island and visited all the sights that Chris was at when he was filming Somewhere in Time. God I miss him and reading and watching his biography makes it feel like he is still alive.

  • Enormous talent of Chris Reeve : actor (cinema and theatre), artistic director, writer, director of the Christopher Reeve Foundation. Attentive father of his 3 children. He wasnt only for 4-times the performer of Superman but he wonderfully played a lot of characters simultaneously in cinema and tv movies his repertoir filmographic was very impressive. In fact : handsome actor, talented, charismatic, sensitive, courageous, modest with a good sense of humour!

  • i remember when i first saw this. I thought since this is fake anyway why not have him do a couple of backflips and land in a split before accepting the award.

  • Wait, so was he ever able to walk again? I thought he was paralyzed for life....

  • No, this is editing. He never walked again

  • Even though Christopher Reeve never got to walk again and has died. He will always have a strong indelible impression to humanity. He is a beacon of inspiration.

  • too bad about his wife, she was finally free and then gets lung cancer and never smoked a day. pity :-(

  • what the fuk do you mean finally free?

  • ya, this is why I only gamble on horses, I will not ride one.

  • lol

  • WHAT THE... Oo... you fu*** shit.. shut up...

R.I.P Christopher Reeve :( . You are a real Superman

  • YOU could be dead. Know how easy that'd be?

  • what's wrong with you

  • That is not necesary.

  • This breaks my heart...

  • this comercial made me cry

  • we hada debate today about this commercial and we read an article that was extreamly biased about how 10 million people mistook this commercial for thinking they found a cure only to have their dreams crushed to find out that his face was digitally put on another mans body

  • Thank you, I've wanted to see this for a while.

  • It may not have happened in Christopher Reeves lifetime, but it will happen someday.

  • this commertial is sadder knowing that superman is dead.

  • oh fuck i almost cried in this comertial, bells you Reeve

  • They made his body look too big, he was like seven and a half feet tall in this video, but he was only 6'4" in real life. But either way, this was really inspiring. His size was a bit distracting though.

  • Chris was one of the most unfortunate persons in the world...asthma, allergic reactions, infections, accident, cardiac arrest, a wife with lung carncer, media attention... he just needed AIDS in his list ...

    What an awesome video, inspiring.

  • yeh but with the millions of dollars he had im pretty sure he wasnt too unhappy

  • yeah he was much more unfortunate than a oprah in africa who had to watch his parents killed with machetes over blood diamonds and then is force to fight in a war against his choosing. yeah that kid would never choose the "terrible" life that christopher reeve had. lol

  • La verdad que impresiona este video, ojalá hubiera sido real.

  • you dont really need aborted babies to get the stem cells.. their are several ways

  • Oh come on!! That's just mocking him!

  • Nuveem's statement to the world, "fap fap fap fap"

  • Even though Chris Reeve didn't make it, in spite of great odds against him, he kept a belief that is what this video represented: Hope. Richard Donner believed he could fly, and could walk again.

At least there will be hope for the future of other people with spinal problems.

    Never, ever, give up hope.

  • was he really walking!

  • Did it not bring you to tears the first time you ever seen this. That man is a miracle.

  • There should be a bio film made of Chris Reeve, they made bio films of Tina Turner, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, Roosevelt, Chruchill and so on. Chris's story was very much a legend to be remembered for all generation.

  • Rest In Piece Christopher Reeve! Your My Superman!

  • Although this video may have connotations to miracles and fantastical happenings -

    What is the overall message?

Superman once lost the ability to walk.

The fact that he can, once again - that's the beauty of this commercial. That Superman can walk again - and through that, we can achieve miracles.

  • It's weird that the guy mentions 2004 in the advert, the year Christopher Reeve died. :S Always will be Superman in my eyes.

  • Magnífico, parece um milagre!

    Christopher Reeve forever

  • This is a bit weird...

  • God... I almost cried.

  • not a man..simply a Superman!

  • y do u gt to bring religion into this jesus is awsome and chris reeves knows that

  • Then again if these people would just practice abstinence then you would not have to work about condoms. No sex before marriage is what is spoke of in the Bible. If this was practiced then you would not have such a big problem anyway.

  • First, The Bible is far from irrelevant.

Second. I am 28 years old, am not married, am not a priest, and I am still a virgin. Abstinence is a choice. I am living proof that no sex outside of marriage is possible.

  • Since you have never seen me you have no clue whether I look Ugly or Beautiful. God thinks that I am beautiful because he looks at we with eyes of love through the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ. God loves you too.

  • Jesus rocks but peoples that use religions as a scapegoat are idiots w/o a cause, god is cool too, but he's got to clean his house and set straight those who claim they believe in him

  • Christopher Reeve was such a wonderful man!............A WONDERFUL AND TRULY AWESOME SUPERMAN!

  • It's beautiful how for one more time, people were looking up at him rather than down.

  • he will all ways be superman

  • Chris was a great man. I wholeheartedly wish we could have seen him walk again.

  • haha your name is horribly disturbing and tastless

  • lol wtf?

  • its sad that the so called "advancements" were just a fluke. . .

  • what a great person christopher reeves was. I only wish he did not die so soon. I would have loved to see him walk again...

  • wow this is so sad when the music played when he walked i cried so hard RIP CHRISTOPHER REEVE

  • larga vida a Chris!

en nuestra mente y corazon t llevamo SUPERMAN!

  • no matter what anyone says, this man is a true inspiration and in every sense of the word, exemplifies to a tee the real superman

  • I remember seeing this. I thought it was amazing how they did it. It's very touching I think, but incredibly sad

  • I think the world was waiting for him to really walk. The world was waiting for its hero to get back on his feet. He's gone now but I hope that the world does get back on its feet.

  • this commercial got so many complaints its crazy. like chris was sweet but this commerical was mean to all the other people. they computer genterated him walking. we had a whole discussion at school how it was wrong of them to make this commerical

  • Thats just plain stupid, this video is meant to show what will hopefully be possible one day if we all continue to work together. I can't speak for everyone else but this video is an inspiration. And one day this will all be a reality. Its sad that Christopher Reeves wont be here to see that day.

  • What people was this commercial mean to?

  • It was about investing in research for a better tomorrow. It was about making these things possible for our children by taking initiative today.

  • did he really walk?

  • you're kidding right?

  • no i'm just asking

    cause i really wanna know

  • No, they put his head on someone else's body. Notice how he couldn't turn his head, he can't move his head when he's paralyzed because of his breathing tubes and stuff

  • If this future were only a reality. Here we are in 2008. No advancements in AIDS, cancer or paralysis research. A travesty. Rest in Peace, Christopher and Dana Reeve. He really did make us believe that we could soar to great highs.

  • OMG This brings a tear to your eyes.

    ~What a great man.

  • having grew up on the superman films and being such a massive fan, this truly did move me to tears, this is the first time ive seen this commercial and i wont forget it in a hurry. R.I.P chris

  • Agreed. He was a great man.

  • I have been watching this every year on the anniversary of Chris's death and his accident and his birthday but I have missed all the dates. I still watch this whenever I see it, he was and always will be Superman to me.

  • A true hero!!!!!!

  • i love this commerical too. i would have loved to have seen him walk again. to really walk again. i've loved him since i was a little girl, since the first time i ever saw him on the big screen at the first theater my mom let my sisters & i got to, w/out them.... Superman has always & will always be my favorite movie. i have all the Superman movies, so i can still see him when i want. i also have my other #1 fave movie w/him "Somewhere in Time," he was the Sexiet Man alive. You are Missed Chris.

  • That would have been awsome to see.

  • To whom this may concern, JERRY(GERARD PELUSO)the youtube user FABFOREVER7 is being investigated for internet FRAUD, I am a victom of this SCAMMER, he fraudulently sold me a guitar on the internet for $1420, i got nothing and never saw a dime back, if you are a victom of JERRY(GERARD PELUSO) please contact me here with any details so I can pass this information on to the FBI, IC3, FTC, and the Las VEGAS Police Department, this guy tries to pass himself off as a nice guy, just as part of a SCAM!

  • And why would a bunch of YouTube users care to be honest? He hasn't ripped us off, and all we are doing is watching his videos.

  • Ah, this made me cry.

    What an amazing man.

  • Despite The Dark Knight's dominance of the box office, Superman and Superman II remain the HOLY GRAIL of superhero films. Batman is an awesome character and more 'realistic' but he would not even exist without Superman and Superman embodies more than the real. He symbolizes what could be.

  • my mom said him
