@RememberALF It's John Sheehan of the Dubliners. They're in the audience. Check out another video from this episode called The Clancy Brothers & The Dubliners.
wonderful ambassadors for Ireland .I was privileged to see them perform in sydney 1963 .They blazed the trail ,and set a very high standard.Lest we forget .
Sure do miss these guys!! I was lucky enough to get their autographs after a concert.
While waiting for our ride, we were alone with the Clancy brothers and Tommy Makem as they were waiting for their cab. ( that was many moons ago) Amazing, when you think about it now! I can't recall the exact conversation, but I was sure impressed. God Bless them all!
Great video but I thought the Clancy brothers for whatever reasons didn't exist in the 1970's. We know our good friend Tommy Makem still performs to this day but I thought that the Clancy brothers passed into their great reward in the late 1960's. Hey Youtubers please give me the right info.
i'm trying to find a song in particular called Dirty old town. no it isnt Liam's version. i know the difference. the one i'm looking for is sung by a man who sounds a LOT like Paddy..... i had this song years ago but it was lost and i never learned the name and looking for that one is like looking for a needle in a hay stack.... too many versions and none sound like the one i want! anyone have any clues? know what i am talking about? please!!
i did, and ONE version sounded kinda similar but it was just a sound sample so i couldnt hear the whole thing. seems like the version i had had a solo guitar in it. maybe Ewan has more than one version too
i've listened to Luke Kelly's and thats not the one i'm after. his voice is a higher pitch and loud. the one i had was a soft deep voice. very melancholy sounding.
Man...I had no thought what they were saying till I was dink off my arse. Now that I have, I can understand them perfectly. This explains always drunk.
John Sheahan of the Dubliners. The Dubliners were in the audience and John did some lovely whistle work to accompany them. For once, we get to hear the whistle AND Tommy Makem sing - great, isn't it?!!
Well, whiskey punch in Ireland is a drink made from Irish whiskey (of course), brown sugar, cloves, lemon slices, and hot water. You put the cloves in the lemons, the lemons in the whiskey, and our the hot water over it, and mix in the brown sugar - serve it with a ladle to cups or just stick the cup in a swill some out. Very refreshing in the winter.
Be Fair, they were getting on a bit when this was done! Look at some of the old Black and White footage, Tommy can step it up some, although Michael Flatley has nothing to be sdcared of, ( - he'd've been about three when Tommy was in his pomp)
Yes You're right, great posting - and Paddy's signature tune to boot.
Age didn't figure really, sounds fine to me, not that much different from the 60s. Tommy M looks like he's 'outside' of things brotherly though, would have been nice if he'd have separated the three, but, no matter, great rendition, sad to think 3 down, very sad.
