  • That soap also starred film actor Dana Andrews its first season, and was also the first soap role of a soon-to-be famous actor named Anthony Geary, who would make soap history as one "Luke Spencer" on another well-known soap in just a few years after "Promise.".

On "Promise." Geary played a mildly retarded boy named "David," a wonderfully sensitive & different role than for that which Geary is most famous.

  • I also recall Jeffreys from a late '60s/early '70's, NBC soap called "Bright Promise," centered around life in a college town. Jeffreys played matriarch "Sylvia Bancroft," but the role was re-cast midway through its run.

  • For the TV series (but not in the book or films on which the show was based), the "Kerby's" companion was a ghostly Saint Bernard dog named "Neil," who had a penchant for brandy.

The TV "Topper" role was played by Leo G. Carroll, who more famously played "Alexander Waverly," the boss on both the 1960s' NBC spy spoof series' "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." and "The Girl From U.N.C.L.E."

  • Anne Jeffreys is probably most well-known for playing "Marion Kerby," one-half (along with real-life husband Robert Sterling) of a ghost couple that haunted the title character, a banker, in the early TV sitcom "Topper."

"Topper" was originally a theatrical film starring Roland Young, with Constance Bennett & Cary Grant as the ghostly "Kerby's."

  • Anne Jeffreys was a beauty with a soft southern accent. I like her most in the 8 Wild Bill Elliott movies with Gabby. Boy, I have all of them on tape.
