Brilliant video, extremely intelligent and informative. It is all very true, there is no argument. Consumerism is one of the biggest problems, but not the biggest. The population is the biggest problem. No chance of controlling that. There is no easy answers. Only ways of slowing things down, making it last a little longer. But making it last longer will not help the planet....I wish I was as optimistic as the message in this video. I guess it is a question of fighting or riding the swell...
hahahaha, take the trian, i get it, thats funny, they charge people a living so they can try and make a living. This guy really seems to be subverting the issue to put himself and his agenda at the center of it. The phycological and lifestyle changes consumerism bring are a lot more relivant but you only ever hear about the enviromental ones.because its the topic of the day
"What most of us crave is to feel safe and secure, to feel connected to others, to be part of a community. To feel good about our real selves, not just about our image. But consumerism can't meet those needs."
8:00 Yes but it's still just an apartment building. It misses the point about living individually and independently in your own space. There's plenty of room on the planet; this model is still about packing people together so they can keep their sheeple training.
Seeing that complex in the end almost made me cry...I wish I could live in a world where people lived this way. Instead I'm stuck in a world full of selfish slaves to the American Way.

really? i wonder how the cockroaches and little insects survived through out the centuries which we can kill by stamping , i am wondering how long will it take me to be a monkey?
And by the way why the Dutch India company and Massachusetts company could not survive while it was the strongest ?
WE are teetering on the edge, positioned to go over it. The Tipping Point has been reached and people have got to wake up. Our selfish lifestyle is going to do us in!
A good try on the part of mother nature. It seems the best so far. I think when we've gone she should try with the ants or bees next. They seem to have the innate selflessness required to live in large groups.
For an interesting expansion on this thesis read Noam Chomskys Hegemony or survival were he argues that evolving to great an intelligence may be fatal to a species.
It doesn't mean survival of the most healthy, it means survival of the most apt. Survival of the which fits best into its environment.
As a species, we do not fit well onto this limited planet. We are too greedy, too selfish. Our adrenal glands are to large and we are too easily fooled by irrational believes.
The capitalist consumerist meme has overwhelmed us. We are soon to be a failure of evolution like most of the species ever to walk to planet. cont
I'm afraid I do. We've reached the tipping point, even if we stopped consuming now it would probably be too late but in fact our rate of consumption in the west alone is increasing. When you factor in the growth of China and India... I refer you to my above statement.

relative wealth is an interesting point. once people realise there is more to life than the pure pursuit of wealth and being 'better' than the person next to them they will find more happiness
Lets hope more builders see this maybe we should tax new property developers with 30 years of the properties fuel use that might make them build green.
That's an awesome video, even one retarded capitalist had watched it (and disliked)

China doesnt have to use the same natural resources as america. They can use compressed air instead of oil for their cars.

The thing killing us isn't consumerism. Its fractional reserve banking.
100 years ago, consumerism was perfectly decent.
Its the banks that put the pressure on us.

I think the happiness is not a relative wealth. I think it is rather a state of mind you can achieve with or without any wealth.
