Anyways, they went on testing his ear talking to him by that side and the dude was crying and explaining he had been almost 15 years (if I'm not mistaken) deaf from that ear. Probably just a stuck nerve or something..
Point is, this is how much the spinal chord is connected to the nerve system. This practice is necessary for positioning, which affects posture, nerve reaction, and so on; that do not necessarily have to undergo surgery.
Check this out, I met a dude that was deaf on one ear, and I was 2 cubicles beside him. So the chiropractor started his job, and like 3 fixes later I hear the dude saying, "Um doctor, I'm not really sure, but I think I'm hearing from my deaf ear". The chiropractor went on like "Whaat!?".. and so on.
Chiropractic is the alternate method of those not heavily affected in the spinal chord area. You should know, it is the center of the nerves, so to speak. Even more, this is where the blood cells are first created, specifically at the bone marrow (search the info).
Anyways, spinal surgery is often misused in the sense that it may not be necessary during particular cases. So chiropractors offer an alternate, safer choice.
The research is done, just look for it. New stuff coming out all the time. Yes there is some poor research, but that is in all professions. I personally did research on the TMJ and had my research published in a dental journal. A friend of mine did research on 24 colic babies where over 95% responded and colic was resolved (1 didn't respond).
@chirojanee If you wish to narrow down the topic to a specific area, then fine. I have a problem with any profession making claims that it cannot support with good science. Which area of chiro do you feel is the best supported by science, and what is the evidence that is available?
So why is it quackery? If it is, then why are you not going after drugs that don't even get tested and given out to people? Why not go after antibiotics for ear infection that has been repeatedly proven NOT to work, yet still is given out? What about injecting facet joints that destroy the joint as "diagnostic" that cause harm 25% of the time by skilled hands? Physio's using ultra sound that has been proven useless for pain control?

@chirojanee Physios know that ultrasound is not effective. That finding has come about by doing research to show this. Had the profession of PT not been commited to EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE, then it would be no different than chiro for this very reason, and it too would wear the badge of quackery!
@ospreylookout Chiropractic is also committed to being evidence based. Sofar there is plenty research showing that spinal manipulation is effective in a number of conditions, predominantly musculo-skeletal. However, there is research out for angina, high blood pressure, increasing lung capacity (FER), the list goes on. If we stay narrow-minded and only stick to things already researched we are doing our patients a disservice.

I suggest that anyone interested, Google the Guardian UK for the story entitled, Furious backlash from Simon Singh libel case puts chiropractors on ropes; One in four chiropractors in Britain are under investigation as a result of campaign by Singh supporters, by Martin Robbins.
Guardian, online: Further criticism has been focused on the BCA's presentation of supporting data, in particular its claim that a "plethora" of evidence backs the effectiveness of chiropractic in treating various childhood illnesses. Last year, facing demands that the BCA engage in scientific debate over its position, the association released its "plethora" to the public. Cont on #2.
#2 Guardian, online: The statement, supported by just 29 citations, was ripped apart by bloggers within 24 hours of publication, before being subjected to a further shredding in the British Medical Journal. It emerged that 10 of the papers cited had nothing to do with chiropractic treatment, and several weren't even studies. The remainder consisted of a small collection of poor-quality trials.
Expose bad research by all means. But it still doesn't mean chiropractic is quackery. I just say, if it has grown soo big in just over a hundred years with millions of satisfied patients, what's the problem?
@chirojanee What's the problem you ask? The problem is that there must be as part of the culture of professionalism, a commitment to honesty, and with that, evidence to support claims made. Why is there so little research done to support chiro's claims? Why is it ok that chiros can tell parents that they can treat infant colic, or that vaccinations are evil?? How can a profession make these ridiculous claims?
chiro: Can you provide the physiological mechanism for "vitalism" and "subluxation", which your profession claims is at the basis of your magical powers? Can you provide one shred of evidence that any study has ever supported these terms? Chiro is bs, and is practiced by under educated dr wannabies who failed the MCATS. But please, just offer the substantiated exxplanation. Reference citations would be most appreciated.
