Right now I am on my early 2008 macbook pro using OS X, but I also have Windows 7 installed using bootcamp. Windows 7 is great (not as great as OS X) but it is a pretty solid OS. I have used Windows 98, 2000, XP, Vista, and Win 7. XP and 7 are the best OS I used for Windows. I switched to Mac because I was so tired of PC always getting viruses, crashing, and basically being a piece of shit.
Windows 7 looks more like KDE Linux than it a Mac OS....
Linux and BSD both have preview , and many docks ...
Mac users must have forgot Apple / Mac didn't become cool until they took code from BSD, this all started when Apple tried push Steve Jobs out of Apple , and he started NeXTSTEP OS that used BSD code, later Apple started a project call MKLinux... Yep Apple had a Linux project... Then the new Mac OS was born from BSD code... Later PC-BSD came out to make BSD more like Linux.
@maw88ify Well no, I think they were pretty "cool" before they "took code" from BSD. Secondly, they actually _sponsored_ a project to port Linux to PPC. Apple didn't _try_ to push Jobs, they simply fired him.
The BSD license agreement makes it easy to reuse the code. Even Windows NT included portions of BSD in the networking stack.
what about security? in vista i actually found the popup questions to tell me "are you sure you want to run this" useful, i stopped unwanted programs from running countless times.
He said at the end that WIndows 7 is a great Operating system that could rival OSX...it's nice but I haven't made a complete switch to Windows 7. It's nice and all but I love OSX better. I'm running Windows 7 Pro on my Mac Book Pro, and I rarely use Windows 7 since I installed it. I guess I'm hooked on Macs. As I say "Once you go Mac, you would never go back!"
Apple doesn't officially support Windows 7... Try installing boot camp, if you on x64 your going to need to go into the administrator account after enable ling it in the user account policies. Its kind of a hack to make it work.
no, if windows gets viruses, they have no affect on os x because windowsvirusses dont work on a mac.
And, when you instal windows 7 via bootcamp and you are in windows 7 you cant see the hdd os x is installed on because windows doesn't recognise the filesystem of macs.
The only thing that can happen, is that windows 7 can get a virus, not os x
no....the worst that could happen is your windows 7 could get a virus, but thats true for any windows....its not like the windows 7 partition could crash the computer if it gets a virus if it got a virus it might crash the windows partition but your mac side will be unaffected and the windows 7 viruses cant transfer thru a partition and furthermore pc viruses dont run on a mac but overall your fine
Um.. Yeah, and that's why I switched to mac. Lol Windows 7 is a total rip-off of Mac OS X. In fact, that's how windows got started. It was stolen from Apple.
This is for everyone that is saying W7 is a "service pack" or something of the likes from Vista. I thought the same thing until I started running the RC version. The RC alone impressed me completely. I was not expecting mch, and even if I had been, I still would've been impressed. Is it perfect? No But it is much much better. I have had incredibly few complaints with it, it's incredibly user friendly, and for gamers who had trouble getting addons with Vista, there is no more trouble on W7!

LMAO
W7 is just a service packed Vista, buy it mean your just repurching Vista all over again!
Oh and BTW all the same anoyences are still there.
Should I try the "seven" yet? We'll see how fast I can get a couple of 64-bit laptops, 15,4" and 18,4", huh?
However, I'm getting sick of former Vista. See why.

In reality W7 is just a fixed version of Vista, they are reselling the OS back after they riped us off by selling us the same os all broken down and crappy.
Weird, after hours and literally days(balancing school and stuff) of backing up data and finally getting Win 7 installed i found a file called "Windows.old". I was running Windows XP Pro and Microsoft recommended doing a clean install, so thats exactaly what I did. Im now running Win 7 Premium and the only problem I've seen is one I've caused myself, idiotically not listening to what Steam told me not to do, but we live and learn. It's a great OS and I would recommend it to everyone!
Dave are you using 32 or 64 bit windows 7 and also are using Leopard or Snow Leopard install disk for the drivers for windows 7 because I don't think windows 7 bootcamp drivers are not out yet.

WinXP mode? What a joke. I'ts handy for alot of ppl that didn't switch to Vista? Why switch to Win7 then if your still going to use XP - that don't make no sense O_o Does Snow leopard users need a virtual machine to run Tiger apps? Hell no, this is another epic fail from Microsoft. Sorry but there is no competition here, it's still years behind OS X.
a lot of people haven't upgraded to snow leopard because of apps that aren't compatible. it's not a microsoft thing, it's a problem that you get with any os upgrade. And a good reason to switch away from xp is that it's an eight year old os that microsoft will be dropping support for pretty soon. I still love Mac OS X, but Windows 7 is pretty sweet, definitely a step in the right direction for microsoft.
Snow Leopard do not uses virtual machine, because its another version of Mac X, bet Xp is another o.s., so you have some errors to run aplications. And I think 7 is better than Xp.
it doesnt matter, like I said, SL don't need a virtual machine to run tiger apps or leopard apps, win7 does to run xp apps and such, they even put in IE6 on XP mod jesus christ...
Snow Leopard has many incompatibilities with tiger apps. windows 7 runs almost everything flawless. XP mode is for legacy applications (Dos, windows 3.1) I doubt snow leopard would run PPC apps of the past. Unless of course you had a ppc emulator. A+ cert tech since 98. Im running Snow Leopard, Windows 7, Ubuntu 9.1. Snow Leopard and Ubuntu are archaic. Windows 7 may not be more secure but it isnt running something from the 70s Unix is such a dinosaur. NT rules

1. I LOVE Apple hardwares, especially the new ones. But I LOVE Windows 7. Can I buy myself an Apple system and run Windows 7 as the main OS. WITHOUT any trouble? Absolutely as if I were running the OS on a Dell or HP or Sony?
2. This is a silly question, but can we change the wallpaper in Mac OS X Leopard? I have never seen Macs with a different background, but then I haven't seen many.
1.Yes you could run Windows 7 as your Main OS. In fact after you install Windows 7 through Boot Camp, it will be already set as your main OS.
2.Yes you can change the wallpaper as well, it works the same way as on windows right click set as desktop image or save to iPhoto (Macs only) which downloads the image
Great video I have used pcs all my life and have recently switched to mac, 1200 dollars and I couldve stayed a little longer cause windows 7 looks awsome. What version do u own of it and how does it perform?
Dave, great vid. Are you going to install 7 on the MBP 13? If you do, please comment on the Windows Experience Index score you get for it. I'm running the same computer and my graphic scores are a bit disappointing. Just wondering if my computer is an anomaly. My scores top to bottom are: 6.2, 5.9, 5.2, 4.2, 5.9. Anyone else feel free to chime in. Thanks and good on you.
I have a Mac. if i purchase windows 7 how do i install it on my Mac using boot camp??? please make a video or help me!!!! or if anyone knows how give me a breif description. thanks
You go too the Boot Camp Assistant, open it, and partition your drive, dedicating a part of your hard drive too windows. Once that's the partitioning put in your Windows 7 Install CD, click start installation. And Boot Camp should take over from there, even if this may seem hard it's possibly the simplest way too ever install an OS. Comment back if you got any other questions. Hope I helped.
Snapping is useless unless you have a big screen. Like the new 27 inch imac or 30 inch cinema. I'll stick with OSX window management is perfect Leopard, expose, desktop, and quick look are features that windows can't match.
That is wrong, snapping is good for small screens if you need to drag&drop from a window to another. I suggest you try windows before commenting, the jump lists make the window management very easy, easier than on a Mac (i know both so i know what i am talking about).
im, i guess you'd say a 'mac fanboy,' but i must say i'm a huge fan of the ribbon. and windows 7 looks much better then vista which im happy about, cuz that's just gonna put heat under apple to make the next version of mac os x SO much better!
yea. i agree. it looks nice, and i've tried the RC on my brother's laptop and i must say i was impressed. but the popups "are you sure" are still there. and actually the only "window" manipulation i find useful is the snap-to features. the rest will confuse alot of people that don't read about computers all day. i think many times they'll be saying "wait wtf, where did my window go?" when really its on aero peek desktop or something. lol but, it runs good and i cant wait to see what apple does!
my issue with camstudio is not that it makes windows run slow. what i should have said was, it's default 1920 X 1200 screen res settings make the video too heavy to edit on a core 2 duo. i decided to record it at a lower screen res. no issues for me on imac.
Not sure if they thought of the snapping feature all by themselves. Theres been a very similar feature bundled with most acer computers called "gridvista" for quite a long time. Definately a welcome addition though.
thank you dave you have taught me a new trick as i never new you could shake the window to hide the rest not gonna lie a cool trick

DiNatalli 2 years ago
That is wrong, snapping is good for small screens if you need to drag&drop from a window to another. I suggest you try windows before commenting, the jump lists make the window management very easy, easier than on a Mac (i know both so i know what i am talking about).

im, i guess you'd say a 'mac fanboy,' but i must say i'm a huge fan of the ribbon. and windows 7 looks much better then vista which im happy about, cuz that's just gonna put heat under apple to make the next version of mac os x SO much better!

Windows 7 ROCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Man, I use one on a 1.06Ghz processor! It runs SOOOOO smooth......
krishansy 2 years ago
yea. i agree. it looks nice, and i've tried the RC on my brother's laptop and i must say i was impressed. but the popups "are you sure" are still there. and actually the only "window" manipulation i find useful is the snap-to features. the rest will confuse alot of people that don't read about computers all day. i think many times they'll be saying "wait wtf, where did my window go?" when really its on aero peek desktop or something. lol but, it runs good and i cant wait to see what apple does!

Exactly the annoying Vista crap is still there, in fact this thing IS VISTA
What Microsoft has doen is FIX VISTA, and then turn around and seel it as a new operating system.
Why didnt they just do this with a service [ack for Vista, the same reason they won refund our oney we spent on Vista!
ratdoghippy 2 years ago
You fail.
Windows 7 has an entirely new kernel, you are not going to push a new kernel via service pack. Don't say it is Vista because it clearly is not.
btw - Vista never needed fixing, it runs perfectly fine.

Your iMac couldn't handle Camstudio with Windows 7 at full resolution?
EvanJello 2 years ago
camstudio's default settings suck

problem?
kevinklinkmuller 2 years ago
Im just surprised. I have an iMac 2.66 ghz and was hoping to install Windows 7 on it. Do you have a problem?
EvanJello 2 years ago
Nope, no problem. And you?
kevinklinkmuller 2 years ago
my issue with camstudio is not that it makes windows run slow. what i should have said was, it's default 1920 X 1200 screen res settings make the video too heavy to edit on a core 2 duo. i decided to record it at a lower screen res. no issues for me on imac.

Agreed. So far so good!

Ech, CamStudio. You should have just used the trial of Camtasia for the sake of this video.

Not sure if they thought of the snapping feature all by themselves. Theres been a very similar feature bundled with most acer computers called "gridvista" for quite a long time. Definately a welcome addition though.
