@SuperSenshi @MariaUshiromiya1234 basicly let me put it this way, they ARE indeed part of the same series, however, notice I did NOT use the word sequel, I said what parts they where. It goes like this: Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni is part 1, Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Kai is part 2, (The OVA series and any other bonus arcs just kinda fall in between numbers like lets say 2.5,) Umineko No Naku Koro Ni is part 3, and I will not name the remaining parts since its painfully obvious you

@SuperSenshi @MariaUshiromiya1234 you have not read the sound novels (This is aimed for 'MariaUshiromiya1234'). Let me put it this way, Bernkastel is suposivly Rika's 'alter-ego', Lambdadelta is belived to be Takano's 'alter-ego', it is hinted though out that Bernkastel and Lambdadelta played a game in the past together, it is also hinted that the game was the Higurashi mysteries and what not. Like I stated before, I HIGHLY recommend you read the novels, it sheads so much more light.

@mrskagmi If I knew where to find the novels, I would. I've been to every Barnes & Noble in my area, but they said that they've never even heard of it (though they did have a few of the Higurashi manga there ^_^ ). Would I have to go online to get the novels?

@SuperSenshi The Sound Novels (also called visual novels) are for computer (and PS3 I think), the Sound Novels are what everything is based off of (such as the manga and anime) the Higurashi manga series is avilable in American book stores, but the Umineko magna has not been liscenesed into american, if you want to read the manga you'd have to read it online via scans or buy a Japanese copy and learn Japanese, if you want the sound novels, I can send you download links to where to

@SuperSenshi get them for both series, and Higurashi has also been officaly translated by manga gamer if you wish to purchase the sound novels from them, mangagamer(DOT)com/allages/ , they also have demos up to higurashi so I recomend you try their site, or just ask me for links if you'd like.

@mrskagmi Higurashi and Umineko are both books written by a woman named Tora (I think) after she got a bottle from ocean w/ a letter inside from Maria that told everything and Lamb and Bern are not real Lamb is cake and Bern is her cat. Its book within a book :/
