Can anybody that watched the show..... plaese tell me what the SONGS are & WHO SINGS them..... especially the one where they go back & Colette is making love to the husbend in Rome......... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE :)
The Mad Men comparisons are unfair, the two shows are totally different: Mad Men is about the personal drama of Ad company execs and their hot secretaries while Pan Am is about the life and times of four Pan Am stewardesses. Heck, the shows' views of the 60's seem to differ. Mad Men stresses the crap that could fly in the 60's - Racism, sexism, antisemitism, and smoking, while Pan Am is about just how great flying was back in the 60's compared to now.
People- Those critisizing Pan Am as a Mad Men copy- Thats normal. Every good series has copy cats, Magnum PI gave us Simon & Simon & Airwolf. I loved Pan Am's pilot!
Only the educated and wealthy in mexico learn the true castillian language. Some of the mexicans have created and mixed their native tounges with spanish, thus creating a new lauguage. Just like the americans took the proper brittish/English language and changed creating a new american english. Also the mexicans ancestry and blood line do not come from spain. However since Spain took over mexico Spanish influence was introduce to mexico.
coulda been worse.......they could have tried to capitalize on a 23 year old tragedy....when I first heard about this show, I was betting it would be "Pan Am.....flight 103!" ....wasn't a bad show, but it jumps around too much (every scene leads to a flashback)......makes it more confusing. If there will be beautiful mid-60's women with beehive hairdos, green eye shadow and big hoop earrings, keep it on the ground, in the USA with Motown and Beatles music in the background, then I would love it.
Fuck off haters, this show is beast. This show actually has a plot that doesn't involve rape, murder, extortion, or violence in anyway unlike the "others."
ah.... back when stewardess were beautiful women held to the highest standards of beauty! Not like today where they are all soggy and illegal spics..... by the way, yes, I am an old fuck baby boomer who's about to die and is proud to have had a help ruining the planet for future generations
I'd been anticipating these show for a few months now. I genuinely liked it. It's smart, sexy and glamorous - the type of glamorous nostalgia sorely needed in today's miserable, uncertain world. However, the way network executives work these days, I have a feeling this one will be cancelled. They have a tendency to keep a lot of crap and ax the good shows.
What's the big deal? This is another lame and worthless show that only glorifies stingy white women and leaves all the minority women out. Oh, I get it...this is a new program that wants to keep women objectified. If perverted men could have shows like these to watch, why can't us women have more shows that have male eye candy for us to see? Dumb patriarchal sexist and racist bitches!
I can hardly wait to start waching this. :) Those were the years where America was America, and the airlines were airlines. Passengers actually got dressed up for flights as if going to a five star restaurant.
The good ol days of flying before we called them "flight attendants" because they hired queers and unattractive women. Damned Affirmative Action. Now folks is scared to get on a plane now in the age of terrorism! The TSA exposes us now to radiation with their body scans and shit!!!
I was looking forward to seeing this show, but from this first glimpse it seems to me that Hollywood is up to its old tricks.
They're starting this series by glorifying abandoning your responsibilities by ditching your would-be husband right before the wedding. Way to go, Hollywood. Just what we needed: more young women thinking it's cool to be a douche.
The best thing this series did was rent a restored DC-7 for 'authenticity' shots. Christina Ricci isn't tall enough to qualify as a 1960-era stew, and the pilots are too young and trim (no WW2 vets need apply, it would seem---despite the fact that THEY were the majority of US airline pilots in that era). Ah, well...
Pan Am could succeed, but it will hurt the show to be going up against NBC's Sunday night Football.
ABC and Pan Am could get a break this week, though. The Indianapolis Colts, minus Peyton Manning, are playing the Pittsburgh Steelers. This game could end in a blowout win for the Steelers. If Pittsburgh is up by say, 21 points in the 3rd quarter, many people could turn off the football game and decide to watch Pan Am's debut episode.
IMO, ABC or the other 2 common US MSM's (NBC, CBS) should have thought about making this serial in '73, when the feminazis formally declared war on men (Roe v. Wade). Or perhaps as early as '60 when birth control pills were approved for contraceptive use in the US. (on a side note: ya wanna fix breast cancer? ban the pill or female hormone substitutes. We weren't designed by God to operate this way and we wonder why we have such problems...
BTW, i do love women, but not most American women. :)
As the economy gets worse, all these actors/actresses who have been hiding under a rock, will come out for a paycheck. Christina Ricci and Sarah Michelle Gellar just to name a couple.
yea right. another false advertising thing from the media. they are saying all stewardesses are hot, adventurous, exciting, ect. yea right. and the skies are never grey, no depressing travel days. traveling via plane sucks especially with tight securities.
There was something about that crisp, clean, blue-and-white logo that made me want to fly Pan Am when I was a kid. Pretty stewardesses in swank, semi-military uniforms were a plus too. The undeniable spark of early 60s style strides with confidence out of this show.
Who knows if it will last? Enjoy the flight. And gentlemen, try showing up for dinner in something besides a gray t-shirt.
I hate these displays of "hot" available women. Recent studies show that as many as 48 percent of women suffer from sexual dysfunction. "Don't you just want to cuddle?"
this looks fucking awesome, just hope it's not totally surfeited... michael buble's a tad overrated... that's all :P Love everything about the 60s, air stewardesses, and factor X... i'm not saying what factor x is... let's just say it's a certain pilot...
I came here all the way from pandora just to say FUCK U! I hate you for repeating this shit on pandora between my favorite songs! now that's justice, and fuck anybody that would watch this show!
Actually, many Pan Am stewardesses were foreign (German, Dutch, Irish, etc.) spoke two or more languages, and had advanced degrees. They seldom smiled. They were smart, educated , efficient and business like. But full of charm they weren't.
Congrats to your CEO for getting costs so low this. Nobody is charging the company star salaries, no agent fees, lock people into contracts at minimum wage, and use all-digital backgrounds--nothing at all for real in the show except the lipstick. Whew-wee! A sweatshop factory owner in China has nothing on you folks! Let's smoke that cigar right now.
umm i wish this is what flight attendants looked like or in this act like. nice and willing to do to basically anything and not bitch about it or be rude! but i guess its understandable nowadays... people equal jackasses so why would they want to be nice to passengers?
the new exhibit at the natl. air and space museum has a good look into how stewardesses used to be expected to be- a certain height, a certain weight, single, no children, proportionate and, if i remember this correctly, just below the standards of beauty for hollywood actresses. all that went out the window with feminism, equal rights and the inability to tell someone they can't have a certain job because they don't look a certain way. now that only applies for models and strippers lol
Are they going to keep the 60's real in this series, just like in "Mad Men"? Guzzling hard alcohol and smoking cigarettes, as they were the style of that period?
i am a stewardess for united airlines. this is what i remember as a kid travelling first class with my family. really hopes this show is a hit. the bus crowd that now fills the friendly skies needs to see what air travel used to be. air fares are cheaper now then 30 years ago. yet, fuel is at least 5 times higher. if you want pillows, blankets, magazines, food, then you have to PAY for it. also, if you want to be treated with respect, then you need to EARN it!
Why do they (TV Exec) think people want to watch a show from an era where people of color were not allow to have a job. No one should watch this crap because you know from the start that it will be noting but white people. Now if they show the attempts by some people of color who attempted to get a job as a flight attendant during that time period and the hell they went through and the crap they had to face, now then I may watch. I dont see them doing that, this show should only last one week
Im a flight attendant and when i first applied for the job this is what i thought it was going to be like... but NO!! no cute top hats and gloves just unflattering clothing that make you look as ugly as the outfit.... i really want this lifestyle back.... and lets not mention these girls were banking 100k a year- phew!
From 1985 to 1990 I had the pleasure of being a Pan Am Flight Attendant. It truly was the highlight of my life to travel the world for free. Even in the 80s we were expected to have weigh ins, wear red nail polish, heels in the airport and flats on the airplane, we served 5 course full on meals in first class with a wide array of wine and champagne. I was so sad when Pam Am went out of business. We never really saw it coming. Till the end we maintained a level that no other airline cantouch
Had the joy of boarding dozens of Pan American Boeing 707s around the world from 1960 right to their very end in 1980. Outstanding service, champagne, and stewardesses!
Great memories of the glory days of Pan American World Airways. Looking forward to this show (although it may be "salted-up " as the parlence goes in show-biz).
Normally I don't watch previews for shows and think "Wow, that looks like it will be good." It usually just has to be suggested to me by a friend; however, the previews of this show have quite captured me and I think it has a lot of potential. I'll be watching come September. Hope you don't disappoint, ABC!
I like stewardess better than flight attendants. I work at an airport, and it seems that the foreign airlines based out of Asia, the Middle East, and South America, follow these Pan Am standards.
Now, a lot of american flight attendants are rude, tattooed, too wide to walk down the aisle, too unhealthy for repeated flights, and not conditioned physically to handle the job.
Age isn't the issue. A slim, fit, graying 45 year old woman seems is at it than a 25 year old 30 lbs. overweight.
Why can't flying be as glamorous as it was in the 1950s and 1960s? You were served delicious food that wasn't cold and yes, the airlines used real china and cutlery onboard for the passengers. After dinner, you could light up and smoke till your heart's content. And of course, airlines like Pan Am and Trans World offered tons of leg room compared to airlines today.
My late father flew for Pan Am out of SFO between 1943: 1985. It's my hopes that this series has some substance and does not degenerate into a late night soap opera.
Pan Am was a wonderful airline and I hope whatever brought this show to fruition does not desecrate the memory of a truly great company and people with a bunch of irrelevant nonsense and silly drama.
What about the documentary "On the Wings of Giants" at w w w dot panamdoc dot c o m that the creators have been struggling to find financial support for so they could finalize the project?
I have a Pan Am themed night club in L.A. known as the International Beat Club! We've been out of commission for most the year, but we return the same weekend this show premieres! Women who come to my club dressed as stewardesses get in for free! Look us up on facebook!
I have a Pan Am themed night club in L.A. known as the International Beat Club! We've been out of commission for most the year, but we return the same weekend this show premieres! Women who come to my club dressed as stewardesses get in for free!
I am so stoked to see this show! My grandfather was the captain of a Pan American plane and my grandmother was a stewardess. That's how they met. :) They were only 18/19 years old, and they flew together for 47 years. I really think this show will show a lot of the glamorous side of having the opportunity to fly back then, unlike in today's pathetic world where people are afraid to even get on a plane.. It's just not like it use to be.. :/ However, I know I'm totally going to love this show! :)
Yaknow, I wouldn't mind this show so much, If they didn't pull so much from Other airlines. Keep hearing "the friendly skies" mentioned, that was United's slogan from the 1960's and on. Its things like that and other things I've noticed that show ABC really didn't do all their research about Pan Am, or the Time Period.
@MyleneJ What are you talking about ? "the friendly skies" Tell me how many times do you here that mentioned ! "I wouldn't mind this show so much, If they didn't pull so much from Other airlines" Again what are you talking about? Name the things that they pulled from other airlines! Someone sounds jealous!
The series premiere of "Pan Am" is Sunday September 25 @ 10:00pm on ABC. This series is going to have some tough competition: It is going against CSI: Miami on CBS and NFL Football on NBC.
@yeh4jonathan The first song is "Around the World" but I'm not sure who sings it here. It sounds like Michael Buble to me though. The second song is "Come Fly With Me" as sung by Frank Sinatra.
To First Team4: Yes, black people certainly did exist in the 60s but if you want to see them represented, go see the movie "The Help". If this new show stays true to the era you won't see any black people except in housekeeping because unfortunately, that's the way it was.
my name's Amber Stewart. wonder if I could have been a cool character lol. the costumes were cool. the sister's wedding dress was awesome.

Pan Am stewardesses were the first supermodels!

It looks pretty sexy but the dialogue sounds simplistic and the story lines exaggerated. It seems like we're going to have a soap opera at very best.
arkady714 6 months ago 3
I like stewardess better than flight attendants. I work at an airport, and it seems that the foreign airlines based out of Asia, the Middle East, and South America, follow these Pan Am standards.
Now, a lot of american flight attendants are rude, tattooed, too wide to walk down the aisle, too unhealthy for repeated flights, and not conditioned physically to handle the job.
Age isn't the issue. A slim, fit, graying 45 year old woman seems is at it than a 25 year old 30 lbs. overweight.

Things that rock: Pan Am, stewardesses, well-dressed passengers, 707s, and smoky, unhushed JT4a and JT3D engines.
Things that suck: USAir, flight attendants, modern passengers, Airbuses, and clean, quiet high-bypass engines.

so what happened to the real Pan Am airlines?
5eliza87 6 months ago
@5eliza87 American Airlines brought them out in the early 90's.

Whatever happenned to the Jet Age?
Snicklefritz1979 6 months ago
My late father flew for Pan Am out of SFO between 1943: 1985. It's my hopes that this series has some substance and does not degenerate into a late night soap opera.
Pan Am was a wonderful airline and I hope whatever brought this show to fruition does not desecrate the memory of a truly great company and people with a bunch of irrelevant nonsense and silly drama.

MyleneJ 6 months ago
@MyleneJ What are you talking about ? "the friendly skies" Tell me how many times do you here that mentioned ! "I wouldn't mind this show so much, If they didn't pull so much from Other airlines" Again what are you talking about? Name the things that they pulled from other airlines! Someone sounds jealous!
