@xxmc117 Sloped armour was first used on Ironclads. Then on tanks. The Schneider CA1 was the first tank to use it. The T-34 was the first to use it extensively which was one of the reasons it became the best of its time.

Well, overall, the Abrams is still the best tank today, based on its operational history. And it is operated with only the best tank crews in the world. All tanks are more likely the same, but the combination of advance range finders, GPS, thermal imaging, advance armor, and the most important component of the tank is its CREW! And the Americans are best in tank crew training, all military analysts would tell you the same.

First of all; The Abrams Armour is generally sufficiently built in countering shape charged munitions. The Abrams would certainly stand no chance against a Kornet-E ATGM. Second of all; The Abrams is a gas-guzzler which makes it a bad choice for long-range-Duration operations. Third of all; The Abrams going on 60-100 mph with out a Governor for at least 7 min. would wreck havoc with the tanks gears. Finally; This is why the Abrams is a bad choice.
People rag on the gas turbine engine a lot, but gotta remember: when Abrams came out, the top diesel power you could get with decent reliability was maybe 750 or 850hp. And back then piston engines guzzled a lot more fuel than they do now. In combat, when you can crank up twice the horsepower of your competitor, you've got a real serious mobility advantage. If you really need to and say "fuck the longevity we need it NOW" and remove the governor, the abrams can hit 60+mph on road.
Leopard 2 M1 Abrams I say are the best pair of tanks in the world currently. Both on par with each other in terms of Armor and firepower tech but the Leopard 2 A6 has better underbelly mine armor and has twice the combat range compared to the Abrams.
Both tanks evolved from the same joint program German/US tank that they scrapped later.
Abrams does has more combat history and tested Tank on tank combat. Leopard 2 has some combat but mostly IED RPGs. A6 made for thoses =D

The M1A1s and M1A2s did not get an upgrade like this because they don't need it. They were already built to survive mines and always do, the Leopard 2s didn't. Some Abrams tanks ran over IEDs strong enough to completely Flip and abrams and still they did not penetrate underbelly.

The ruskies outnumber the US 2 to 1 and then some. Theres a bizarre proudness and cocky attitude about these machines. Although I personally have a passion for MBTs and AFVs theres no best tank in the world. Theres just no such thing, though all tanks bring something different to the war table. We can have our favourite tanks but in all honesty theres just no such thing as the best tank in the world. All tanks have flaws in their design.
A T-72 costs $1 - 2million, T-80U $2.2million and the T-90 $2.23million, an Abrams M1A2 $6.21million. Now lets look at what the US forces were up against in Iraq, Saddam between the 1st and 2nd Gulf War never upgraded his T-55 fleet and were operating on outdated systems. Essentially, the US forces werent up against an organised force with the properly updated systems to even take on a Stingray light tank let alone an Abrams M1A1 not to mention that T-55s were 54 years old prior to war.
@FletchRDG Sadam also had T-62s and T-72s. Whether he upgraded them or not, the fate of his tanks were the same because the ammunition he had was crap.

Its not a matter of what they have in their inventory, its the matter of what gets put on the field by commanders. Most iraqi tank crews abandoned their tanks when they came up against the coalition. It speaks volumes about their equipment. I think ive seen an episode if this, about tank engagements.

Inefficiency is the main symbol of US products.... No intake screen in the world can protect the turbine engine from sand and small stones. While overhauling almost 50% of turbine blades will be literally damaged by foreign objects. No doubt. Also no auto-loader... and poor range. oh range.. no problem in iraqi oil field.. No match for Leopard 2/T-90/Leclerc.
@JineshJK where do you get that statement from? the Abrams has intake filers with the abilty to purge them clean without a filter swap in field. The Readyness of the M1 is some 95% in battlefield situations. The rate of fire for the first few minutes with the loader is some 3 to 4 seconds thats much faster than any autoloader. The sands in the middle east are the harshest conditions for any tank to operate and it does it at 95%

The sand eats up the turbine fans.The powerpack isnt for effiniency...there is no such thing as a gas efficent tank. My point is that the Engine is not fully protected from foreign objects. So overhauling is extremely costlier compared to its counterparts. Fuel efficiency is another problem.

Well, overall, the Abrams is still the best tank today, based on its operational history. And it is operated with only the best tank crews in the world. All tanks are more likely the same, but the combination of advance range finders, GPS, thermal imaging, advance armor, and the most important component of the tank is its CREW! And the Americans are best in tank crew training, all military analysts would tell you the same.

First of all; The Abrams Armour is generally sufficiently built in countering shape charged munitions. The Abrams would certainly stand no chance against a Kornet-E ATGM. Second of all; The Abrams is a gas-guzzler which makes it a bad choice for long-range-Duration operations. Third of all; The Abrams going on 60-100 mph with out a Governor for at least 7 min. would wreck havoc with the tanks gears. Finally; This is why the Abrams is a bad choice.

People rag on the gas turbine engine a lot, but gotta remember: when Abrams came out, the top diesel power you could get with decent reliability was maybe 750 or 850hp. And back then piston engines guzzled a lot more fuel than they do now. In combat, when you can crank up twice the horsepower of your competitor, you've got a real serious mobility advantage. If you really need to and say "fuck the longevity we need it NOW" and remove the governor, the abrams can hit 60+mph on road.

Leopard 2 M1 Abrams I say are the best pair of tanks in the world currently. Both on par with each other in terms of Armor and firepower tech but the Leopard 2 A6 has better underbelly mine armor and has twice the combat range compared to the Abrams.
Both tanks evolved from the same joint program German/US tank that they scrapped later.
Abrams does has more combat history and tested Tank on tank combat. Leopard 2 has some combat but mostly IED RPGs. A6 made for thoses =D

thing was used. Abram combat history most likely lead to the Leo A6 upgrade and A7 upgrade

Although I personally have a passion for MBTs and AFVs theres no best tank in the world. Theres just no such thing, though all tanks bring something different to the war table. A T-72 costs $1 - 2million, T-80U $2.2million and the T-90 $2.23million, an Abrams M1A2 $6.21million. Now lets look at what the US forces were up against in Iraq, Saddam between the 1st and 2nd Gulf War never upgraded his T-55 fleet and were operating on outdated systems. Essentially, the US forces werent up against an organised force with the properly updated systems to even take on a Stingray light tank let alone an Abrams M1A1 not to mention that T-55s were 54 years old prior to war.

@SpywareHater well excuses or not, those tanks have to be prepared, manned and out on the field fighting. If they aren't then they really dont play a major contributing part in the conflict. Its not a matter of what they have in their inventory, its the matter of what gets put on the field by commanders. Most iraqi tank crews abandoned their tanks when they came up against the coalition. It speaks volumes about their equipment. I think ive seen an episode if this, about tank engagements.

not superior, the only real aspect of it being superior is the FCS and shear numbers i.e a combined inventory of 5,970 M1A1and M1A2 variants, 1,174 M1A2 and M1A2SEP (Army), 4,393 M1A1 (Army) and 403 M1A1 (Marine Corps). Russias current T-80s (1,400 in active service, 3,100 in storage) T-90s (400 according to warfare.ru) and T-72s (1,200 in active service and 8,000in storage) thats a combined force of 14,100 main battle tanks with 3,000 in active service. They may be poorly made but there cheap.

Inefficiency is the main symbol of US products.... No intake screen in the world can protect the turbine engine from sand and small stones. While overhauling almost 50% of turbine blades will be literally damaged by foreign objects. No doubt. Also no auto-loader... and poor range. oh range.. no problem in iraqi oil field.. No match for Leopard 2/T-90/Leclerc.

@JineshJK where do you get that statement from? the Abrams has intake filers with the abilty to purge them clean without a filter swap in field. The Readyness of the M1 is some 95% in battlefield situations. The rate of fire for the first few minutes with the loader is some 3 to 4 seconds thats much faster than any autoloader. The sands in the middle east are the harshest conditions for any tank to operate and it does it at 95%

people seriously need to learn your fact before you go on here and start stupid arguments. 1 yes an m1a1 Abrams has never been destroyed by another TANK, but they have rarely been engaged in tank to tank combat.2 yes they do get destroyed or neutralized alot but that is from recoil-less rifles, certain types of rpgs and sometimes ieds(if they hit a track or the engine block)

He doesn't support use of M113 as an MBT, he aways refers to it as light tracks, which is not only correct, but it does that job better than Stryker or Bradley.
And it's rarely used for transporting artillery cannon.

M1 Abrams was destroyed in Iraq didn't have protection on the bottom. The M1A2 SEP TUSK prove M1 Abram bottom with reactive armor and while on the back of the engines and head cover with slat armour. TUSK (Tank Urban Survival Kit) including Remote weapon station, Loader's Thermal sight goggle, Thermal Sight components, reactive armor titles, rear protecting unit slat armor, tank/infantry telephone, and loader's Armor Gun Shield.

The M1A2 SEP TUSK also fire M829A3 to defeat the new armour kaktus. The T-90 only fire 2 Anti Tank missiles the AT-8 Kobra and AT-11 refleks. Those going be useless against M1A2 SEP TUSK when it is protected by Quick and Kill active protection system to knock out incoming projectiles, ATGM and RPG. I also know T-90 does use ARENA active protection system. US have the answer to defeat active protection system the XM1111 Mid Range Munition firing by M1A2 SEP TUSK.

@SilentEagles Most of those tanks that Iraq used were obsolete, its a known fact that the Iraqi tank crews weren't properly trained. And most of they're tanks were taken out by air not by other tanks, plus Iraq had poor old soviet anti aircraft weapons they're no chance against the new f15, f16 fighters, and Iraq did not even have 100 planes in which one American Aircraft Carrier has that many. The Iraqi war was nothing for america to boast about.
