I looked up the Fiddlesticks album on Youtube, and the first reel she played sounds like "Silver Spire" by Tommy Peoples, but she plays it in a different key.
Greetings from South Carolina! You gals did a wonderful job, sounds beautiful! I especially loved the stuff around 2:12 I'm curious what kind of guitar Deirdre is playing-maybe a Martin? Also, Erin, what kind of strings do you use? Your fiddle has a really nice tone!
She certainly gets it very right for me. Total inspiration into a couple of sad old tunes i kind-of I "knew", plus a great new one from "Fiddlestix" I shall dust-off the fiddle and put in gently in the microwave to dry-out.
i think thats a different tune shes playing (not the version maid behind the bar i try to play) im 99% the tune she is playing is on cathal haydens album handed down
okay i have a kinda dumb quesiton. why the hell does the cameraman zoom in to get a head shot during these vids? i wanna see her fingers, not her face!!
telling the difference between the reels- she states them in a certain order at the beginning, then you listen for the trasitions in the recording to a new tune...sometimes more subtle than others. This is fantastic! and yes, even if it is a normal size, it appears a bit big on her!
Indeed. However it is infact the same instrument, it's just the style which is called fiddling. Although yes, "violin" when referring to celtic music pisses me off bigtime.
amazing, i'm learning reels and jigs on the fiddle, this has really helped me out. thanks. i like the speed these reels have been played, nice and swingy, great pace to learn at.
I love your version of the masons apron!! I've never heard it played it like that before...I must try and get my hands on it - I'm on the prowl for tunes for Fleadh Cheoil Chorcai!! Fantastic music both of you!!! :)
Shows how great tunes at a moderate tempo can be, instead of always being 2000 miles an hour (not that I don't like the fast stuff, but I like this a lot too)
Couldn't agree more; most people at sessions seem to go by the maxim "faster is better"... and sometimes the tune gets lost in the music, if that makes sense.
It makes perfect sense. Unfortunately, I tend to be one of those people most of the time... I'm working on it though....... Again, very nice playing in this video too.
Is that setting of Maid behind the bar in C? I like it!

Is it just me, or does Erin's fiddle look really big? Is that a normal size for fiddle players?
pilotwannabe235 2 years ago
I agree her fiddle is bigger looking than most adult size fiddles
littlemissbluegrass 2 years ago
it could be a viola

Not with that E string it isn't
violatione 2 years ago
you can get 5 string violin... which has the c string of the viola on!! great when you playin for the range!!
munchdj 2 years ago 2
No, that is a normal full size fiddle/violin.

Sunshinie94 2 years ago
she's probably just a smaller sized fiddle player. My stand-partners violin looks huge compared to her.
JustinK078 2 years ago
Small girl?
stuartbeaton 2 years ago
Actually, I think it's just the violin's shadow in some parts. If you look closely it looks normal sized. : )

How old do u think Erin is?
She must have been playing fiddle since she was a baby or summit! :O
