I could've sworn I posted this comment before. Isn't this Itneg dance very similar to the Flores dances in Indonesia in terms of dance techniques, instruments and the type of traditional clothing they wear. See watch?v=7u_LdHtgpKA
Very cool, I had not seen this old Garfias film before. I myself danced this exact dance several times last month, first in Guinaang, Pasil, Kalinga province to the playing of gangsa, and the following week in Boliney, Abra province to the playing of bamboo zithers. This tradition is alive and well!
hey!! datz my tribe!! datz where i came from, nd im very proud about it!! hope it will not die by ds generation.. thnks 4 da people who lav ds culture..ITNEG... nd yeah!! some of the filipino whose hir in the US ryt now.. dey dont even admit that they are part of this tribe!! shame on U!!! be proud where u came from, bcuz ur not in ds world without ds ancestors that we had..
if they are of the Malay stock, then this culture is of the old malay culture, much like the indigenous tribes of the neighbouring island s off Java; completely different from that of the Ancient, hindu srivijayan empire.
*this is not in response to the dance* I think it's disgusting how the Filipinos in the U.S. have gotten so culturally distant from their original roots in the Philippines. In America they act like idiots and make a bad name for themselves.
Not everybody. I still love to see these things. I spent a week of my vacation last year in Atok and Tupdak to see my aunt's friends get married. I still find these dance beautiful. I'm fucking very proud to where I came from so, eat me!
Most of the Tagalogs in U.S forget their roots, so that's why they call this "crip walk". But the Ilocanos like me, are more connected to our roots cuz we speak our own dialect more than Tagalog in U.S. So you might say some Filipinos are ignorant in their own culture, but not all my brotha.
I think Tadok/tadek refer to all "couple dances" or 'pas-de-deux' for dance majors. The one involving a wide scraf is a tadek dance called Pinanyuwan/ Tadek Inlaud/ Tadek Lablabaan. In some places it is called Salukisik (when fast), Sinuklit (by the lowland Tinggian) or Pinal-laiyan (when danced at a 'palanos').
*HOLY COW!!!* Absolute TREASURE is right! That guy is doing the happiest jig I've ever seen... and that's called the crip walk? *LOL* I'm filipino but grew up in the U.S. I have never seen this. Ever. THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting. Please keep this up.
nope, the igorot are a proto-austronesian group of highland people. the Aeta negrito are from a different ethnic stock: they are related to other negrito groups in Malaysia and the Andaman Islands
i'm not very sure how the classifications go, but i suggest you check out wikipedia, they sort out languages and ethnic groups of the philippines quite well.
as a filipino, i can say aeta looks very different from malays. they more closely resemble aborigines to me.
@thecritiquevirtuoso Igorots has a white- pinkish skin from the Cordillera Administrative Region. the aetas has a DRAK SKIN. I hope this would help. Thank you
