  • what shoes are those?

  • @Dozerbeatz Asics wrestling shoes.

  • Looks dope to me, fuck the haters. Love camera shake, obviously not intentional just a side affect of being a bad ass mofo.

  • Hot dang.

  • Straps?

  • just got into these about a month ago. world of fuckin difference.

  • Beast!

  • Beast!

  • That was good but you lifted your back and hips too much

  • R U doing a 5X5?

  • great job

  • sbowesuk must be a pretty boy, what a dick . he did a fine job go stick with the machines with the other girls u pussy.......

  • @adrenilene101 what are you talking about?

    sbowesuk is completely correct

he does an ok job, but a correct pendlay row is all upper body, the legs and lower back should remain straight and unmoving, there for support

don't believe me, look up the video of glenn pendlay himself explaining the row

  • @hxcnoah Glenn Pendlay says..pull the bar to your lower chest, NOT you lower stomach, which is how body builders cheat when the weight gets too heavy. These look like belly button rows to me.

  • beast

  • @007cascader

Wow knee jerk much? I was just asking what the belt's for as I'm fairly new to weightlifting.

  • @Anthonyisangry belts to help keep your back straight

  • I see quite a lot of errors here. Pressing with the legs is a no no. Using the lower back to help lift the weight is a no no. Also looks like he's not quite completing the rep at the top of the lift.

These are all classic mistakes that tend to crop up when the weight gets too heavy. Reduce the weight, fix the form anomalies, and don't progress beyond what you can do with correct form. Just my 2 cents.

  • @sbowesuk where are your videos? form junkies tend to be 180lb weaklings.

  • @sbowesuk i bet the amount of weight you do with "correct" form is = to what you do with "poor" form. AKA you are weak so you pretend to yourself that it is your form stopping you from lifting heavy weights, but reality is you couldn't lift anything heavy no matter what you did.

  • @sbowesuk its a pendlay row not a bent over row theyre very different. his form is good

  • What's the belt for?

  • it looked Ok but if i recall right, in 5x5 he says you should use wider grip and move the bar to your upper ribs part like almost in where you bench to - pretty much like an upside benchpress thinking about it

  • this is fuckin raw!

  • @JVM113 more like opposite of raw. belt and straps. but this is still pretty beast

  • beefcake much?

  • What a surprise, none of the critics have a single video of themselves lifting anything.

  • If you're doing Pendlay Rows for strength (a 5x5 program similar to Bill Starr, Ripptoe or Madcow) I'd say lose the straps.

You won't be able to lift as much initially, however you will work on you grip strength and forearms without em. I use Chalk

  • The earth is trembling while you lifting! Keep it going!

  • typical strength training session for these guys 70+minutes of preparation/rest, 14 minutes of heavy lifting.

  • this video needed to be 30seconds long.

  • Form is wanting definitely. There's way too much back movement. I learned a good fix to this... When you do the Pendlay row it needs to be explosive. When pulling try to pull with the elbows rather than through the hands, it helps to correct the technique. A good way of understanding this is to use a thumbless grip. You should maintain the slight arch throughout the set, and the torso should stay at the same angle to the ground at all times.

    I would definitely recommend the

  • @vccmax Was this sarcasm?

  • In a pendlay row I thought you weren't supposed to press with your legs at all, which you are. Not 100%, and to be clear I can't lift that much yet so know my criticism comes from a weaker frame ;)

  • yeah man let's fuck our upper back, well done-.-

  • Hey i've got a question about form, when you guys do this does it usually work the back of your shoulders? and do you feel any stress on your lower back? yesterday i did very light weight to check the form, and my inner back is sore, but i remember my shoulders and lower back were bothering me. tips?

  • LoL...looks alot heavier with the camera shake. Nice job.

  • That was sweet.

  • Ego Rows 315X5

  • Looking fucking strong man!!! Keep it up!

  • Those who ask about correct form: Glenn Pendlay has account here at YT and has posted video instructions to Pendlay Row.

  • took ya bout an hour to fucken lift it

  • love the camera shake

  • Nothin like Lady Gaga to get you in the mood to pump some iron! xD

  • cool... rowing what i deadlift.

    good job lol :(

  • Lifting starts at 1.15

  • EARTHQUAKE!!!!

  • Not perfect but looks good to me considering the weight...... Controlling the negative motion is not the point of the pendley rows, especially with that sort of weight. Its all about form, pulling a dead weight and the acceleration in the positive motion.

    Good job.....

  • So you just drop the weights with very little control? Use the muscles for the negative motion as well. There is nothing impressive about a fat man lifting the equivalent of his body off the ground.

  • Nice form. I respect that. Camera shake... Nice.

  • Comment removed

  • dude i think you need to stop working out, youre causing earthquakes lol

  • holy shit pause 1:34 randy coture?

  • HAHAHAH YESSS BEAST MODE MAKING THE CAMERA SHAKE

  • @Mr19ification HAHAHAH your comment is absolutely perfect

  • The funny thing is that most of the guys criticizing his form probably can't even deadlift that weight. His lower back is as straight as a pole in the upper part of the movement.

  • thats not good u fat pig

  • Can you answer a question for me? What's it like being a badass?

  • The slam of the weight remind me of the movie "Godzilla"

Now you lifed Godzilla weight hahaha.

  • I love how the camera shakes

  • Hahaha, that was a nice grunt at 1:28 !

  • straight up tank lol

  • I agree with some of the others -- get rid of the wraps so you can also develop grip strength to match your pulling strength (otherwise, your grip will never be a strong as what you can pull). Belt can stay, I guess, if you feel you might tweak your back (I've thrown my back out a few times doing bent rows, so I understand the need). Just keep the belt low and keep your core tight.

  • you're a fucking hoss

  • Ditch the belt and straps, lower the weight a bit, and do the rows more explosively.

  • cool as shit that the camera shakes when you sit it down, great form.

  • sick video hoss. hows your training going?

  • dude you are fucking fat

  • @xshadw shut the f up Nice job on the rows

  • straight up beastmode. how tall are you and how much do weigh?

  • what a fag lol, weight belt and grips, what a gurl

  • Holy shit, that's a lot of weight for those. What's your height, weight and

    squat/bench/dead 1RM?

  • fuck, you shake all world here!!! hahaha, form is just fine!

  • its shakes the fuckin camera haha

  • Impressive dude. I came in thinking "oh this dudes trying to lift too much weight its probably gonna be shit" but for 315 that was very good form. keep it up.

  • That is pretty impressive. Nice form on those.

  • Awesome work. I'm up to 275 on Pendlays and they're hard as fuck. It'll be a loooong time until I get to this kinda weight.

  • That's massive dude. I didn't see any glaring form problems to be honest. Only thing I could recommend would be trying to do it without straps for HEUG GRIPS

  • Good job buddy

    Your video is just fine

  • hey mother fucker...piece of advice...remove all that prelude to you doing the actually lift...i'm not interested in seeing you put on your little straps, adjust your maxi pad, getting set, etc. etc.

  • @yahoopl3 Do you know this guy in the vid or something? Cause if not that's way harsh...

  • better than a lot of row vids I've seen but yoiu should lower the weight some, looks like you struggle at top of rep.

  • great form esp with 315, i agree goin heavier and a little cheating works look at all the big lifters like kroc.

  • Does this exercise taget the lats like the barbell row does, or does it hit the middle and upper back area more?

  • Personally I will say these hit mid back and traps more. I noticed that mid back and trap area got thicker after doing these in progressive manner over 6-7 months.

  • @Elreypachuco Rhomboids.

  • Hey man SO pendalay rows are like normal rows exept you arch your upperback too? cheers. I like your style btw.

  • Well there are many write ups on "proper" form, I am sure you will find enough if you google it. I personally believe once passed the bigger stage, back grows better with heavy weight and some cheating. So experiment some with it. Those who row 135 with perfect form year after year will stay the same size year after year.

  • What if you use proper form on very heavy weight? I guess we just found out..because that is exactly what you just fucking did!

I don't wanna meet you in a dark alley!

  • LMAO thanks man, good stuff!

  • @ulemper you blind? Proper form? LFMAO. He's lower back was rounded, and he moved his hips a lot. Yes, still impressive, but "good form"? No.

  • @NikkiBoy21

I must be a genetic freak to be able to grow my back with 95 pound barbell rows.

  • @NikkiBoy21 i agree completely, like how many guys have you seen deadlift over 500 pounds with a straight back. cheating is sometimes needed to make gains

  • @fataslin I would say that the main difference about pendlay rows is that you're supposed to not only let the weight touch the floor but fully let your muscles reset like in a deadlift.

  • @fataslin

very nice, I would just deload "a bit" after each one. VVery nice - I wonder how much you pull recently

  • Very strong dude. Who cares if the techique is a little off!

  • I think the form is pretty darn good 315 is damn good weight

there is no rounding of the back and that is all it counts..

  • if its too heavy to lift with good form its too heavy, lift with your brain not your ego

  • This form is really bad. I'd check either VikingMan44 or stronglifts row videos if you want to see what it should look like.

  • Ron everyone and their grandmother will have utmost perfect form with submax weight or 135 lbs on the bar. Like I said before I am more interested in ones form when that person is doing a working set or going for a PR. I think some body English is inevitable otherwise you holding back. I didn't see 1 video 315-405lb where there is zero body English.

  • Lol. Yeah, stay away from Mehdi from Stronglift's video. He's a bloody weakling. I'm surprised he can even pick up an empty bar.

  • On another subject, and only slightly off topic, regarding Pendlay: His NexGen bars intrigue me and I am thinking of getting one....however, they have no center knurling. The quality of build impresses me, but I am wondering how the bar performs as a conventional squat bar. Has anyone used the new NexGen bar? How do you keep the bar from slipping? Would a tad of strategically placed athletic tape in the center work to hold it in place or would rubbing some chalk on the bar work better?

  • There are couple reviews on the net, I remember reading someone said they were decent for Oly Lifting not much else. This gym I am currently training in, the bars are missing center knurling and its a fucking pain in the ass as the bar rolls down my back (I just started using athletic tape to hold it in place (see latest vid). My advice to you if you planing on Squating heavy and for reps don't ever get a bar with smooth center.

  • I had a pleasure 1 time of trying Texas Squat bar and it's night and day difference between the piece of shit I am using now. Texas power bar (texas logo on end caps) is one bad ass bar too. I'd 100% not skimp on a good bar, save your money on plates and other stuff never the bar. Ever read EliteFTS when one of them has to train in a commercial gym and emo tears start rolling, I never understood why until I actually used a real Squat bar.

  • I had considered a TPB, but when you go online EVERYONE claims to be selling a TPB. Yet, not all these bars are a TPB. WHo actually makes the TPB? I do not care for the two piece construction of their sleeves, but I hear good things about the bar. The Texas Squat Bar looks rugged.

  • Don't quote me on this but Irondawg store I think sells the original. The one I saw had Texas logo on end caps. Call them up see what they tell you.

  • Thank. I spotted Irondawg in my research, so I will look into it. I was also over at Sorinex earlier and damn if he doesn't claim to have a Pendlay HD NexGen Power Bar with knurling "set for powerlifting", whatever that means. Oddly enough. I cannot find such a bar even at Glenn Pendlay's web site. So, I am wondering if Richard Sorin commissioned some power bars or if he had them custom knurled himself.

  • PS: IN case I did not convey it earlier, you have some VERY impressive strength brother. Keep rippin' it up! Where did you get your belt? I have one from Bob's Belts......was expensive but it is outstanding.

  • Thanks man. I got my belt from EliteFTS it's 13mm one, I also have 13mm one from Inzer when I was less fat. The Inzer one is much better craftsmanship and quality.

  • Yeah, Bob made mine 13 mm as well. It is stiff as hell. Years ago before illness struck, I would have had this belt broken in by now. Now, by the time I get the belt on my blood oxygen levels have dropped so low I am ready to pass out. LOL. Onward and upward. I keep training to try to regain my health. Could be a losing battle. We shall see. In the meantime, I have dreams of squatting enough weight to actually justify such a nice belt. LOL

  • If I hear of another person naming an exercise after themselves I think I am going to puke. It's just barbell rows, guys.

  • Lot of old time strongmen did this movement and called it Barbell Rows and I remember reading Doug Hepburn used Barbell Rows with each rep deloaded on the ground. While in a way I agree with you to keep it simple stupid on the other hand this method has it's perks. Usually it's not guys themselves that are naming exercises it's the people who see it done and name it after that person. Matt Kroc calls his videos Dumbell Rows it's people who termed it Kroc Rows etc. It's easier to id shit this way

  • I failed to even mention that I liked the video - which is the most important point. It's just that I get so frustrated with the diva-like attitudes in certain fitness circles, like Crossfit (don't even get me started on Crossfit), that when I come across yet another tried and true, timeless exercise re-named after someone that I just choke. I will never forget Joe Weider doing this sort of thing. Weider Squats, Weider Deadlifts etc., but your point about id'ing is well made. I groc that.

  • good lift... sick strength

  • I like how you make the camera shake.

  • The fundamental concept of the pendlay row is that your back makes a powerful lumbar & upper contraction when lifting the weight. This builds huge strength in both lower & upper back. Wearing a belt will kill the ability to do the lift properly. You should also be able to hit the barbell firmly into your chest/stomach at each rep. The fact you need lifting straps suggests the weight is too high. Aside from that, you look like a strong mofo, the camera shake is awesome!

  • it looks like the earth shakes when you put the weight down. Awesome lift by the way.

  • NB...2nd and 3rd rep are tight...of course fatigue is going set in moving that type of weight...you loosen at 4 and 5, but hell it looks great. Nice pull'n bro

  • Thanks! Been hitting this movement more and more always trying to tighten up any form breaks.

  • Looked good to me. It's hard to avoid body movement with heavy weights.

  • Thanks for watching.

  • oooooooo shit sick exercises i like it lol.. yooo wha gym u training now that detail is done with??

  • I still do regular rows but this is great for mid back thickness, give it a try. I went over to Dolphin on 24th they had 200 dollars per year if 2 people join at once promotion.

  • Nik,

Pretty good form, poundage considered. I agree with you: once you reach a certain weight, I think it's silly to expect NO knee movement and/or NO back elevation.

Btw, I think this is the most weight I've seen anyone use on Penrows. I did 275x6 awhile back; now I've gotta try to catch you :-)

  • Thanks man! I am still learning the execution of the lift. I think with practice my form should improve but there will be some body movement I am just being realistic here. In the article I think Glenn Pendlay is off his rocker to say stuff like "I did rows with Coleman once, actually, and I was far stronger than he was." or that he uses 425lbs on this strict. Strange how these guys cannot afford 100 dollar camera. I saw few vids here guys doing 315-500 but they all got body movement.

  • It looks pretty clean.

I've been checking all over YouTube for expample vids for Pendlay Rows because I want to incorporate this into my workout as well. Lots of variations and I'm still not sure what "the" true form is. I don't know if I'd wanna do this explosive or non-explosive. Any suggestions of vids I might of missed? Thanks boss!

  • Google "How to Perform The Pendlay Row with Correct Technique" there is entire article about it. Problem is in the demo video the guy only uses 135lbs everyone and their grandmother will have good form with 135, but what happens when you actually go for your working set? I am more interested in ones form when that person is doing a working set or going for a PR. I think some body English is inevitable otherwise you holding back. I didn't see 1 video 315-405lb where there is zero body English.

  • For what is this exersice?

    gread job!

    greetz

  • This exercise if for your back, hits more mid back/trap thickness. Idea here is to explode up while retaining that back arch and not moving at the hips or knees. I feel less lat involvement here as well, mostly mid back. A lot of old school guys, old strongmen would use this movement but they didn't call it "Pendlay Row". But everyone calls it that and know what it is so = Pendlay Row for easy understanding.
