In this case I would have kept on the gas a bit longer, because as soon as you hit the brakes the car will just slide the direction it was traveling. If he'd kept on the gas a hair longer, while the car was sideways, he'd have helped push the car into the turn a little bit more and maybe kept from sliding off the edge.

yeah, shudda kept the power going, even if it's to feather off to control the slide. Even in dry conditions, the amount of accidents from people locking it up instead of going with it is crazy..

-all 4 tires in a full-time AWD system are connected by a system of differentials, they're potentially very susceptible to torque reduction when a wheel loses traction; without traction control systems, they become immobilized when any 1 of the 4 tires lost traction. 4WD systems dont connect the front & rear via a differential, & dont suffer any front/rear torque reduction—if a front tire loses traction, it won't reduce torque delivered to the rear tires, even without traction control systems.

AWD means all wheels have power to them all the time 4WD only two wheels at a time have power to them but all four wheels have the ability to receive power, which ever two wheels have the least amount of pressure

AWD does not equal 4WD..
AWD means all tires spin, but the power is not transfered from the wheels that slip, to the wheels that grip - as clearly shown by the 3 tires that had no traction, yet kept spinning in the video.
4WD means the three tires that had no traction would transfer their power to the wheel that was not spinning & had traction - takes power from wheels that slip to the wheels that grip.
a Porsche does not have 4WD, it has AWD - BIG difference.

@yuskjr Not neccerily, I believe 4WD means it can be engaged & disengaged for instance large trucks are 2WD with 4LO and 4HI. AWD is constant, and still has the ability to transfer power to the best gripping wheels i.e. Subaru with VDC or Subaru with LSD (giving power equally on an axle)

yes it can [i know because my dad has a 4WD truck], but AWD is not 4WD. AWD works completely, 100% differently. look it up sometime & you will se that AWD is not the same as 4WD in any way.

@yuskjr Yes it is different off course AWD isnt exactly 4wd but they still result in power output to all 4 wheels... AWD how I see it is permanent or semi-permanent whereas 4wd is more drive influenced such as engagement of low range and 2 wheel drive modes in trucks. But i suppose there is many definitive definitions.

AWD is how the car runs normally, 4WD is an engaged switch that can be turned off/on, yes, but that does not have anything to do with how the drivetrain works. look it up, you are 100% right about how it is ENGAGED, but 100% wrong about how it WORKS.

Actually not a 4X4 per se, but AWD because the Porsche does not have locking a differential like those found in Jeeps, Landruisers and etc, true 4X4's This means at some situations, the wheels of the Porsche, will have torque reduced, as seen by the locked front wheel in the video, while the rear wheels keep spinning. ( in this case the car's behaving like part time 4x4).

Porsches can be 4x4 since Porsche 959, in 1986. What you see in this video is a Porsche Carrera 4 Cabrio, or Carrera 4S Cabrio. "4"--> is on the back of the car to show that the car is AWD. Stop being so amazed ;)

In this case I would have kept on the gas a bit longer, because as soon as you hit the brakes the car will just slide the direction it was traveling. If he'd kept on the gas a hair longer, while the car was sideways, he'd have helped push the car into the turn a little bit more and maybe kept from sliding off the edge.

i think thats assisted traction if the wheels loose traction it transfers some of its drive to the others till its fixed! usually for powersliding.
notice the front wheels flying and the rear just kicks in at about half the rpm of the front
