  • Was that a midget playing guitar?

  • TaffieRaphie is a tough kid, but would be tougher if now Taffie explained me the meaning of the lyrics!

  • That guitar solo in middle is awesome, added a new level to an already song. :)

  • Chris Thompson one of the most underrated singers around that time... great band...

  • Yea it was originally Bruce Springsteen's song.... Mannfred Mann only made it fucking incredible.

  • I don't give a fuck what anyone tells me, I KNOW he says wrapped up like a douche, and then I rode in the night on the studio album

  • 1983!!! i was 19. it was a great time!

  • Sweet hat Manfred.

  • this aint the real band some tribute band

  • @kevo34100 No, this is the real Earth Band. The lineup at the time was Manfred Mann, Chris Thompson, Matt Irving, John Lingwood, and Steve Waller.

  • I get why people compare, as it's the same song as such. I don't however, get why people start comparing without doing the background work. Manfred Mann, is a bandname. Named after the keyboard player, Manfred Lubowitz, - who only sings the latter part of the song along with the lead vocalist.

  • This is the best live version out there. Great song.

  • J.Hoag... if that's true, why is Manfred Mann a moderately famous musician, most known for a cover song, and Bruce Springsteen is regarded by most critics and fans as one of the single most important artists of the last 100 years?

  • Manfred does not sing this song, the song is sung by Chris Thompson

  • The guitar solo gives me chills!!! Saw them live in the 70's and they were fantastic.

  • I've always loved this song. But it came on the radio last week whilst I was driving through some country roads late at night ... INCREDIBLE.

Juni-!!

  • words cannot express how much i love this song

  • one of the best ever ;) ... man im gettin old ;)

  • Song was written by Bruce Springsteen, who sings it at times during his concert.

  • heiwär echt cool wenn jemand mich vor meinen einsamen dasein retten würde

  • 6:26 i wonder how many hitz of acid she took?

  • steve sucks, dave flett was better

  • @werbeboard Both were/are great, just different.

  • Love the 70s music so pure and simple. didnt have many cares when this song came out when I was 9

  • amazing rock voice......... saw these guys 3 times in the 70s........... NIGHTENGALES AND BOMBERS......... etc

  • WTF every Manfred Mann vid that i click on is just a black screen! wtf is going on????

  • the music is just awesome... just listen 2 it...

    wooo!

i think i was 'blinded by the light' when i met Todd. geesh!

  • i only know some of the lyrics for this song... i have no clue and it doesn't even matter. i simply freaking LOVE this song!! i listen 2 it over and over again.

I am a woman of color and i loveeeee rock music.

    rock on!!

  • ça m a vraiment touché d apprendre le deces de mr Steve Waller.cette putain de chanson me ramene 25 ans en arriere quand on l ecoutait a fond avant d aller surfer avec des potes!! RIP STEVE

  • yeah i knew that just that solo to me doesnt go good with the song as much as the one from the album

  • Steve passed away a couple years ago-RIP. He was a great guitarist . For what it's worth i bought my Hagstrom Swede because of the tones Steve got out of his. A players guitar and Steve was the real deal.

If anyone knows where i can find still photos of Steve Waller with his Hagstrom please contact.

  • nice guitar solo but still the original is the best from roaring silence album

  • ah the 70's

  • Oh man! Watch out for that pyro! Epic...

  • amazing..there are haters for this song? really? HAVE YOU HEARD THIS CRAZY SHIT!?@ :D its SWEEEEET

  • im a massive springsteen fan, but this version has always given me goosebumps. an amazing version

  • Fucking loved that guitar solo, probably best I ever heard in a long time.

  • so much better then Springsteen

  • um dos grandes solos de guitarra para a história

  • love his voice.

  • Yes, Manfred Mann put a passion into his singing that Springsteen never came close to... grimacing and grunting aren't passion IMO, they're more likely signs of constipation.

  • @JohnathonHoag Manfred doesn't sing this song, only at the end he joins in. By the way I totally agree with you on your remarks about Springsteen.

  • @JohnathonHoag Mann wasn't the singer. He was the Keyboard player.

  • @JohnathonHoag Why do you compare Springsteen with Manfred Mann?

  • i like the 70s look better, they keyboarder looks like the guy who stared in cast away

  • manfred mann is VERY TALENTED! OMG

  • Oh wow hahaha

  • That keyboard player is skilled

  • i agree 1150 % on that one. ..very talented keyboard player

  • Who is the girl in red at 6:29 of the vidoe, she is hot looking.....

  • Man, you mean a girl, who was 26 years ago near 30? maybe my mother... :)

  • You served him

  • just a fan

  • Comment removed

  • @hydraplugger She may have been hot at 6:29 in 1983,

but at 11 PM in 2010, she's probably a grandmother.

  • Why Do you raise with a-j?.....Looks like a stupid fuck to me

  • this song is the shit

  • Bruce Springsteen needs to thank his lucky stars a band like Manfred Mann came along and made his songs famous. Bruce can write, but Chris Thompson can sing circles around him.

  • Much agreed with parker133759! Bruce is a good writer, but an absolutely horrible singer! MMEB's version was much more rock-oriented and Chris Thompson has the best set of vocal chords that the world has ever heard!

  • AM ,FM ,PM who cares it's a great song period

  • Hell i agree with u its one of the periods in time where things really was good!!!!!!!!!!!!

not like the times we are in now!!!!

  • Absolutely genius!

  • ncharlestun - what the hell are you talking about -you are full of crap. If you don't like the song just don't listen to it and don't bother posting dribble about friggin ice cream trucks!!

  • Correction to Ncharlestun...This is one of the best tunes to come out of AM radio. This song is awesome.

  • Well, if you don't like it, move out of your grandma's basement.

  • Sorry arletteaaa, I never met my grandmothers and here in South Carolina we don't have basements. We have attics. Thank you for your comment. I always turn my speaker off when commenting on BBTL so I don't have to listen to this terrible pop radio dementia.

  • look man go "rail against" something else, this tune is one of the better tunes out there, go to the hannah montana videos for real pablum.

how miss directed can you be?

  • parliament funkadelical!!

  • einfach geil...

  • just bought the album on vinyl , get it and listen , awsome,

find it on gemm . comm

  • scc1962 just fucking awesome

  • one of the best songs i've heard

  • I bought a video of Manfred Manns Earth Band and thought this was on it?Well needless to say it wasn't and I am throughly pissed so,some one on here tell where the hell I can get this video?Dam I'm pissed off! This has to be one of the best versions I've ever heard I gotta have it!

  • The lead guitarist playing this solo was my old mate, Steve Waller, who I played with many times. He was the King of the live music scene in London for a decade and Waller stories are legendary. Everybody doffed their hat to him. I am glad that this example of the quality of his playing is up here for people to see.

    Cheers

    PhilL

  • the guitar solo is legendarily awesome amazing suck my dong.

  • One of the BEST voises EEVVEERRR.....

  • they revved up like a duece

  • Singing the Dolphin through...Where did that go?

  • i wish these werent men.

  • chopsticks

  • Nice keyboard and guitar solo! i do agree it's MM best performance!

  • wie der die melodie am anfang einspielt kommt einfach nur geil

  • geil...geil....geil...

  • Jau, dem kann ich nur bei pflichten :D.!!!!

  • yea riiiight!

  • yea the most famous story is of a hippie protagy who told three guys to look at the sun and the he took there ladies and was never seen again

  • wat does this song mean i swear i hav not met a person tht new the meanin of this

  • Ask thslax11 he told me the meaning ...It is a hard song to truly comprehend because there is so much going on..if you look at the lyrics to Bruce's version there are more versus and it is even harder to understand..

  • question to acton 420 what does it means <LMFAO<

  • "Laughing My Fucking Ass Off"

  • i love intros like that. when its nothing for a minute until they start playing the real intro to the song and then you know what song it is. i love holding my breath until the song starts like that.

  • Rock on!

  • One of the best 'live version' song I have ever heard.

  • greatness

  • oOpussymagnet is and ignorant person. Im 24 and its people that are as dumb as that which are destroying this country. Mannfred Mann's Earth Band for life!

  • now everyone's entitled to their own opinion but i agree that oOpussymagnetOo's opinion is based less on fact then random put downs that have little meaning seeing as he/she probably never met Bruce or any of the Manfred Mann's earth band

  • "is and ignorant person" hmmmmmmm really? come on

  • "come on" Where we goin? LMFAO

  • dude...come on!

  • if u have something bad to say dont say it at all but if u have something as fucking retarted as u have to say, go die

  • bruces version sounds like a completely diffrent song..Ipersonally like manfreds version much better.!!!!!!!!!!! But what the hell is the song about..I know calliope was amuse.. but who is she in the context of this song??

  • its about a night on drugs.. cocaine mostly. being "blinded by the light" was a slang way of saying coked up. there is also a little bit of lsd in the song too.

  • Thanx that makes so much sense..So the references to the automobile.. revved up like the duece is a conciet or an extended metaphor for being extremely high??

  • bingo.

"momma always told me not to look into the sun.. but thats where the sun is"- there were stories during the LSD craze that people would stare at the sun while tripping and it would burn their retinas out. other things like that throughout the song.

  • Thanks so much..Very in sightful..I now understand the subtext..Where did you learn this..i have been all over the internet and listening to the song nonstop since I heard for the 1st time last month.??

  • umm well the end sucked!

    other wise that was good!

  • WOW HOW RARIRTY!THANKS!

  • i dont know if i like this guitar solo or the original manfred man solo better but there both awsome

  • This is real musicianship. His voice probably gets laid down in one take in the studio.

  • Good Song, Blinded by the light? It is darker than hell at the concert! :)

  • manford man is the best and they got the best guitarists ever

  • loving this :D

  • Manfred Mann takes music to another level. Like ELP and Pink Floyd, they are unique. No one else compares.

It's also great to see old dudes still pounding out hard hitting rock and roll.

As Pete Townshend would say: LONG LIVE ROCK!

  • Tried to find this concert online but could only find a VHS copy for about 70 dollars. Would love to get this on DVD.

  • Davy's on the road again!!! Now there,s a 'classic'!

  • No we think your mad!

  • Repetition can sound so well. :D

  • For receptiveness try Bad Company, ACDC and lot's others.

  • "repetivness"

  • THIS SONG IS AMMAZING!

  • Ahhh...This song brings back great memories of getting high and chasing pussy. Excellent live version.

  • THE INTRO IS THE BEST

  • Credit to Bruce for a killer song. But his version doesn't even come close to this amazing rendition.

  • was a classic on blow sound track, even better on the flick check it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • check that girl at 6:30, I´m 25 y late for date. Old school look, won´t see that at your local US BLVD today. Goog old comunism. Btw who needs Bruce anyway.

  • The Bass needs to turn up his amp. On other versions the bass is so deep and loud thats what makes it cool.

  • One of the best guitar´s solo I have ever heard.

  • yes! i know why i´m born now

  • Classic Tune!!!

  • makes me feel like I got a marble in my shoe

  • Dave Flett is way better guitarist

  • Comment removed

  • the beginning reminded me of pinball 3D

  • only bad part is the guitar solo. of all of it, the last 2 seconds actually are the solo. Not sure why his visuals don't match the playing until then. Otherwise, nice version.

  • Who is the beardy bloke playing the solo on the Les Paul?

  • Is anybody out there who dare say that today's shit that's called music is anything comparable to the art of music they did then? Do not dare!

Just two words guys: time machine!!! Nice vid!

  • true

  • I just loved how Chopsticks was randomly inserted but yet the key of the song worked out perfectly.

  • They're all so strung out on coke.

  • the best version of this song:)

  • Something from your dreams, innit?

  • This is the real version! Bruce sucks! He's overrated!

  • how can the boss be over-rated when he has sold over 65 million albums & had 21 top 10 hits in the US ALONE. also just adding 18 Grammy Awards spanning 23 years. Hmm did i mention he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Oh & inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame too? Name another artist who had 45 Philadelphia sold-out shows. Thats too much to be over-rated. & how can his version suck, when it was his first single?

  • Just my personal opinion. And Bruce...he's called the boss...but he's not anything close to a boss. His vocals are strained and horrible. Manfred Mann does such a better rendition of all of his musical feats. Hands down, Manfred Mann is a better musician.

  • I agree that manford mann does it better.

But Bruuuuce is "The Boss" all around!

  • make that 4:07

  • Kudos to the soaring guitar at 2:07.

  • Does anyone know where i can get this tape? The quality here is crap. This video deserves a proper upload. I tried to fix the audio in Audacity, but it didn't work very well...

    Love this song!

  • Noel McCalla sings it the best by far

  • springstein has no vocal range first of all, his song tanked and manfredd made this song huge cos springstein has NO talent and is VERY lucky in his limited sucky range

  • I remember when i was young they used to play this song at the fair on the fast rides ...it was cool

  • sweet

  • This is amazing!!! One of my favorite cover tunes done live!!!!! FINALLY!!!! Thanks for posting this....(WOW!!!!!!)

  • I have some great pics of the program for this tour if anyone is intersted. VERY high quality; just email me through here:)
