The reason why the double stop bits so low is so that the second violin could be heard...

And yes, this particular piece is the best of Bach's, in my opinion. Show me a better concerto and maybe you'll change my mind... I doubt any of you will find anything better, though (in classical music!)

I can't show you a better concerto (yet), but I think that musically speaking the Bach Chaconne is superior.

With Bach it very hard to find a "better/best" piece :-)

Personally - because, ultimately, it comes to personal taste - the C minor (violin, oboe, strings & bc) is my favorite, possibly because of its sheer beauty. This one is fabulous, even more complicated as far as counterpoint. Then there's the 3rd Brandenburg concerto.. and the 5th.... and the 6th... and what about the lost ones (Bach surely wrote more than these)!!

But, as far as concertos, Mozart is no sloppy second either ;-)

I think Mozart's String Quintet No. 6 (K. 614) matches this no problem. I'm not saying it's better, I'm just saying it's on this level.

This was a very clean renediction of the piece:) however I wish they'd played the double stop bits louder. The music said FORTE for that bit, not metalpiano.

It is quite loud, not to mention that the soloists don't have the moving sections in that part. Youtube does not quite do it justice.

@HARMONICO101 The Pygmalion Ensemble or Café Zimmerman are also great !! They are baroque orchestras and they have a lot of musical sense and a pure sound, listen to them if you can find their records ;)
