  • @DrZarkloff Oh it's a fresh intake.

  • What's the upper vents for?

  • @acnfanmanin Do you mean the fresh air intake? Or do you mean the evaporator coil?

  • those cheap pump up sprayers, they have horrible penetration into the coil, and always mess up with coil cleaner, the seals tend to go out and pump quit compressing. Good video though, I like your in depth steps you show!

  • I usually wrap a plastic bag over those condenser motors and tie it offf, just a plain old walmart or grocery store bag and tie at the bottom, that way there is no way to get water into its windings, Also, I never, spray in on dirty side coil, always reverse airflow, alot of these newer coil fins are not smooth on the inside, they have little ridges, so if you spray in the dirt just traps in them, I use a coil cleaner gun, that just attaches to a hose, simply because I got tired of buying

  • my church has three 4 ton wall mont heat pumps with copeland scroll compressors

  • @js0009 Sounds like you have some work to do.

  • @DrZarkloff We poured a slab where the wallmounts go as well as mounting them on the wall, the reversing valve on the must be entergized in heat mode they when the tech wired the first one when we put it on heat and got air conditioning

  • @js0009 Most Bard units do have heat active reversing valves.

  • What is in coil cleaner? Any household products that will work? Brake dust remover?

  • @trencher7 You really should use coil cleaner. I don't know how brake dust remover would react to thin aluminium and copper.

  • @DrZarkloff How long do you let the cleaning solvent sit ? 5min?

  • @ramirez509 5 minutes is about right.

  • Just curious, since there aren't a lot of these in my area; are these wall hung units typically hooked up to ducts, or are there just vents on the wall behind the ac unit?

  • @hpac1009 You can duct a wall hung system both ways. I work on some that are ducted and some just vent at the other side of the wall.

  • hi my ac unit is not shooting out cool air what could be the problem?

  • @fernndogg67 There are many possibilies. Is the compressor running?

  • DrZ, i've been watching alot of your videos...i'm also in school for HVAC but here in GA, my teacher loves your videos and finds them extremely helpful

  • sir do you have video of a how to clean a split type aircon?

  • Have watched all your videos. They are very helpful, I have learned alot from them. I am 20 and going to school for my HVAC licences here in North Carolina, any codes that I may need to know of?

  • Learn all that you can. Knowledge is power.

  • do you mind if i ask you for your email so i may email you with questions i may have?

  • Dr. Z, how long would you say is an acceptble time frame to do this preventive maintenance job (from setting up equipment, plus actual work from start to finish, and clean up)?

  • I can clean a filthy Bard in about one hour.

  • very nice

  • When you are right, you are right. Too many techs just clean from the outside.

  • Now this is more like it.

Don't know why you didn't make all your videos this accurate.

  • Thanks

  • Yay 4 Bards

  • Dr.Z, are you using "Yellow Death" foaming coil cleaner there? I know it's for "outside" coils but I use it on the inside (evap) coil as well as long as I have access to rinse it with a hose as you did on this unit. The Yellow Death just does such a better job than the "No Rinse" Green Evap Coil Cleaner. :)

  • I can't remember the name of the brand. I was trying out a powder that you mix with water. It's a great alkaline foamer that works even better than the liquid alka foam that I had been using. As for any of the no rinse cleaners, they suck.

  • Yup. The no rinse type has no power! But you surely have to rinse that yellow death! It does stink a bit LOL! I tried some powder stuff before but it clogged my sprayer and seemed it didn't keep very well if you had left over in the sprayer. :(

  • You're right. You have to use or lose the powder stuff after you mix it. It doesn't seem to keep for very long.

  • I could watch you clean that thing all day long.

  • Thanks. You're welcome to do so.

  • can you come to my house and clean my coils oh and my filters i think they need changed too lol

  • Barry, you probably won't like my bill.

  • Dr.Z

I Must Compliment you on Your Video.

Very Nice Job!!! I Have Seen These on Construction Trailers in Southern California Here.I Don't Get Calls on These. But,if i Do--I'll use Your short Cut On That Condenser Access.Good Short cut. I'm Mainly Commercial Refrigeration.Walk-in Coolers,Walk-in Freezers Etc. Keep up the Great Informative Video's.Rock On! Refrigeration Man Since 1981.

  • Thanks. I'm glad that this video is helping techs in the field such as yourself.

  • Thanks for the video. Fantastic job as always. I really appreciate the effort you put into this.

It has really impressed me how simply cleaning a unit can have such a positive effect. That foam you use seems to really deep clean.

Do you feel that the units you show us are dirty from routine use or have they been neglected for a while?

  • Thanks for the compliment. The were neglected.

  • Another GREAT VID!!!!!I have these units (heat pumps) installed on temporary housing at my jail. Because I need them in summer and winter I eas forced to learn how to get the most performance for these units. No one i work with or for can figure out how i don't have any problems. The key is proper cleaning. I have a shop vac attached to the drain and sucking for all it is worth to protect the blower motor. I also trouble shoot the defrost relay and temp sensing bulb so i am ok in the winter

  • Great. It's always a good idea to check out the defrost cycle before you need it.

  • i like youre viedos alot because you dont bash window unit users.

i know most techs cut them down but for some its all you can use and its better than nothing.

iam looking at a ge mini split.

and how long have you been doing this kind of work

  • Thanks for the great comment. Mini splits by any manufacturer is a good choice. They are very energy efficient. I've been working on air conditioners for about twenty five years. But I've only been a tech for about nine years.

  • how about showing youre own system?

and maby do like payson does and show some of youre actual work so we can see the master at work:)

  • I have shown my own system in a few of my videos. Check out my UV lights and access panel videos. It difficult to show people how to do some things like braze because it's hard to hold the camera and braze at the same time. I've tried to use a tripod but I can never get the right camera angles and my hands keep getting in the way of the camera. I rarely get anyone willing to hold the camera for me but I'll keep it in mind.

  • the units are also used for manufatured homes as well as const trailers

  • thanks fo rposting this video i have seen alot of the units in my town and allways wounderd if they are any good

  • They aren't very energy efficient. They are very handy in that they are easy to swap out and install just about anywhere.

  • Nice video! I love the real life scenario at 5:10 "...very simple to move the shroud... ummm what are we snagging on here?" I didn't realize how much dirt can build up on the inside when the outside looks relatively clean.

  • Thanks. There's a bolt at the top that the shroud has to clear. It's a real piss poor design.
