Wierd, i'm sure the other companies would have recycled the steel also, it would be silly not to judging by it's value.
i was a bit disappointed because when they said 'recycle' i thought they were going to float the sections up the river and use them as bridges further along.
this bridge was built in the 1920's and couldn't keep up with traffic demand in that part of the Bay Area. It was also getting run down. The road on it was full of bumps and potholes, and the bridge part was rusty. It was just an old bridge and was time for it to go.
this video is old but it has not many hits, is it because nat geo made two videos in one day and the first one got all the hits and came up in my subscriptions on the front page but i didn't see this one till i was looking through all the videos on their page
@baolinh111 It was seismically unfit. Retrofitting it would have cost more money then just building a new one. The suspension bridge to the left was built to replace the 1927 span of the Carquinez Bridge. I have lived next to these bridges for the majority of my life :)
Though if I was in that car passing on the ramp of the new bridge (in the background) when they take down the concrete tower, I would've been scared shitless from the sound!
thats in Crockett, CA. I used to live there :)
