I've played every LOK game except this. I know the story and to be honest, this game holds my favorite part of the story with soul reaver 2 finishing 2nd in that category. I'm afraid the lack of 3D might hinder my experience. Is the game still fun to play even if you played the otheR 3D games in the series? I think I want to get it.

This is one of my all times favorite games, developed by Crystal Dynamics, storyline by Silicon Knights. I never really felt the Raziel spinoff had anything to do with this game as the ending is perfect and doesn't need sequels. I wish they remade this game as a RPG (think The Witcher), or a movie. Just imagine it, a much much darker and cooler Underworld Rise of the Lycans with an epic storyline and charismatic main character. Too much storyline for a single film maybe, make it a trilogy ;)

sorry, what I ment to say was that the game was published by Crystal Dynamic and developed by Silicon Knights, unlike the sequels which were developed by Crystal Dynamics itself. LoK came out in 1996, the first sequel, Soul Reaver, in 1999

I don't think so... you cannot put an order to Legacy of Kain because the timeline changes so many times. But the correct order of the games in the lifetime of Kain, is as follows:

1. Blood Omen

2. Blood Omen 2: It's just a few hundred years after BO.

3. Soul Reaver: Few thousand years after BO.

4. Soul Reaver 2: Much time travel.

5. Defiance: Much time travel again.

As they were developed, obviously the order changes as well. Hope this is of any help.

@Gannok130 There was no 'merging' as Shifter was little more than an outline before it became LoK. Such things happen in the world of gaming exceedingly frequently. Including in the reverse. High profile examples of the reverse are the first RE4 concept becoming DMC and Clock Tower 3 becoming Haunting Ground.

And Shifter evolving into an LoK game was FAR from 'destruction' or 'fucking up the story'.

@Xyex I agree that Shifter becoming SR didn't exactly ruin the story, infact it may have added a depth that wasn't intended for the true sequel. It does make you wonder though where SK would have taken the story if they had been given their chance to continue their story, maybe it would have still be good, if not as complex.

Still a great game and one of those classics that defined the early days of the PSX. Kind of makes me miss those days of gaming.

@Hawkes10112 I've wondered where SK may have taken things with their sequel, too. I think the naming of the first game (Legacy of Kain being the sub title, not the primary) is a good indication Kain wouldn't have been involved, so it would have definitely been a different direction.

Still, I love the way the people at CD managed to tie their original concepts in with SK's game. Hylden Lord/Mortanius, Ha'ak'gish/Turel, Raziel and the Soul Reaver, and Raziel being why Malek was late. Love it.

@Xyex I always thought Raziel being the cause of Maleks delay was a great move, storytelling wise. Many may not like some of the LOK games, but there is no denying they have some great story writers. Here's hoping that cancelled LoK game will one day see the light of day.

Of course it is related, it's like the Genesis for LOK. Kain's beggining as a vampire, first alliances, and first mission: bring a balance to the Pillars of Nosgoth. An absolutely fantastic game, and I mean gameplay, story, and the voice acting is superb as always, with Tony Jay as Mortanius and Simon Templeman as Kain. Look it up, it's great.

anybody that played video games since the nes days can tell you, this is the most exiciting trailer in videos games ever, when this came out those graphics were unheard of, and the violence was nonstop, the controls were easy. When you saw Crystal Dymaics flash on the screen, you knew the game is going to be high-end quality.

the started work on a 6th LOK game "The Dark Prophecy" but unfortunatly this was cancelled not long ago due to lack of interest in the title.

if you want a new LOK game then get your voice heard, get on the eidos forum, sight up and vote for it on their poll about most popular game. then go to the LOK section and post about how much people want a new LOK game.

waiting has got us no were and if nothing is done then LOK will fade into nothing and will be forgoten about.

I love both charakters, but Kain is so brutality in the first Blood Omen, that I prefer him minimal.

I've played this game. It's really good. But not as good as The Soul Reaver 1. Soul Reaver is my favorite from all the legacy of Kain saga. Let's keep waiting for LOK6. but i'm afraid it will never come.

Yeah, my Windows XP runs it as any other game without a problem. But if you do have problems on running it, you may try with a DOS emulator, namely DOS-BoX

Many have that problem. The solution is DS CPU Grabber. I had to set it to use like 80% of my CPU to get past that initial bar scene. BTW if you have a dual-core processor, set the affinity so that both Blood Omen and CPU Grabber are running on the same core.

It's not a DOS game, unless I'm misunderstanding the distinction. TheLostWorlds point NET have instructions on getting around problems with newer computers, which worked for me, though not perfectly.

I bought this game last week for 40 Euros for PS1 and now I play it right after I've played "Dark Messiah" on Xbox360 ... and well - it's not less good and I love it, 12 years after its release. It's epic and much better than Blood Omen 2 even if the whole Legacy of Kain Series is great.

They hold a special place in my heart to this day and I would gladly play through it again. Truely timeless stuff.

And while the sequels and spin-offs were mostly decent to good games, I still think this game deserves to be judged all by itself.

My Soul Reaver 1 and Blood Omen play just fine on my XP. In some cases is just video configuration, but in others you got to change the compatibility mode or download a fan-made patch. But as for me, I didn't had to change a thing
