I'd be careful. Laibach can relaly punch you right in the face, but I wouldn't call them prophets. This kind of mentality has caused problems in the past.
Laibach are the most famous prophets of modern times. Right before nato bombing of yugoslavia, they played in belgrade and told everybody what is about to happen. Before an economic crisis in the US they had a tour in the US with a symbolic name DSA, and then they came up with volk, to warn us. In my opinion laibach doesn't take sides, they simply say the truth, cruel and cold reality of our world.

@OBAMAismyHERO666 You know, they are the slovenian FRANCKY VINCENT....and Milan Fras was called the VERGEUR OF MOUNT TRIGLAV by Carribean fans from Guadeloupe....
I think it's a fair enough comment - but other countries had/have empires, Russia included. Countries with any kind of empire usually breed 'superior' people. "Scatter your enemies, confound your politics..." could be out of The Art of War. "Rebellious scots...crushed" from the original Rule Brittainia, a musical written by Scots (funny world).
@virtuoushumour ALL COUNTRIES HAVE HAD FACISM or at least Empires. Mexico itself was an Empire with Maximilian and had a dictatorship with Porfirio Díaz that endured 30 years. Maximilian was killed.
@Liam1993R The Volk album is basically consisting of several altered versions of national anthems with Laibach's own social commentary and satire towards a specific nation. For England, it's about their empire and colonization. For France, it's about the Mass executions during the Revolution. For America, it's about whether or not we have upheld our own system of government. (The Constitution and such) For Israel (Which is my fav) They have one for several other major powers. That make sense?
@xuntermensch That's my favorite song, followed by France, but I don't know. England still has the tendency to poke their nose into other peoples buisness as if they're still all powerful when in truth......France, and Germany both are far stronger now economically. Go Franks! Go Germans. XP

The British Empire is the most talked about because it is the largest empire in all of history. All the nations you listed had impressive empires, but nothing has topped Britain's. I think the Mongol's came close to holding the same amount of land, but not quite.
There is no way to be certain of that. The Romans invaded almost all of Europe, they controlled the whole mediterranian coastline, parts of the middle east and even parts of North Africa. On top of all that warfare, they had deathmatches in collosseums and such. I wouldn't be surprised if they had the highest body count.
well i agree with the media view of your point, we have american shit on our tv's quite alot and our politics are hand in hand with yours but thats about it, and we dont really connect with europe
Britain rose to power as a necessity after resisting oppression from the French and Spanish. To say the Scots were merely conquered is offensive to Scotland, who were partners and leaders (in parliament, in war and in blood ties with the royal family) with England in a mutually beneficial Union. Don't confuse Scotland with Ireland or Wales who *were* conquered.
Scottish were not crushed, the Scottish invasion of England *was* however crushed.
Scotland and England then formed the basis of the United Kingdom, of which there have been many of Scottish monarchs and whose nation makes up a large influential percentage of parliament (despite Scots having their own parliament now). England may be the founder, but Scotlands part in Britain is interwined - and was essential for the glorious history of the empire that was never conquered. The British Empire.
What's the point of this video? England no long has a monarchy.
If it's about imperialism generally why the profuse references to a queen?
Great video though, if a little bit thick on the torture porn.
It's so funny to me how much "cool" stems directly from over reaction to insecurity. Which is what all torture (even fantasy) is, either from the insecurity of the state of the insecurity of the individual.
Ironically it also applies to the tortured. Though for them it's physical insecurity.
What the hell are you talking about? Britain, ipso facto England, has a monarchy, unfortunately imao. She's the fucking head of state. If you're gonna post comments then at least get facts right.

for me this is not about irony but reflecting the fact that so called uest-you-rope... is dying and that there comes the time for panslavism people with pure hearts, fresh minds and beautiful language...
Piotr
Well except the judeo-bolsheviks which do NOT belong here
The Middle Classes of England bleat the same chorus, political correctness and greed, the herd mentality with the emphasis on the mental- has a collective amnesia, it is in fact their emotionally stunted greedy little lives that have desecrated and robbed England of its vitality. The herd that knows their (house) price of everything but the (emotional) value of nothing, spreading sterility ,blandness and stupidity, they will reap as they have sown.
The UK, or more specifically England, is up shit creek without a paddle. Economically n in most other senses. A soft liberal approach 2 immigration n law n order allied 2 comically absurd political corectness has blighted n eroded English identity n purpose. 'Anglia' is sonically satisfiying n though a tad macabre n negative is still spot on in identifiying the faded glory n sickness at the heart of old england
I think this is quite possiby Laibach's worst song. I mean, sonically, it's fine, it's very pretty.
Conceptually, well, they're being straight, this is just a bit of a rant, it lacks the power of, say, Smrt Za Smrt or even Geburt Einer Nation.
Personally, I love my state, my country and Her Majesty, but my problem isn't with the message, it's that it's laid bare and because of this, it's almost like something one of their imitators would write lyrically. :(
I am aware of this, but the treatment that Laibach gave to it rendered it as their own. Goodness, I hope you are trolling, if I have a basic knowledge of underground bands such as Laibach, then I should jolly well have a basic knowledge of more popular bands. Indeed, I like Queen.
I am afraid, OnTheRazorsEdge, that your problem is with the message even though you are telling otherwise. Maybe you dont realize it. The bluntness of the message, works quite well.
Your "Majesty" is nothing really to worship or keep as a proud tradition I am afraid.
My Slovenian brothers be saying it laud and clear here. Their message may be brunt, but you have to get sometimes like that. It does not diminish the quality of their work.
Mabye I don't realise that my problem is with the message? Look, Laibach are one of my favourite bands and usually they are a lot more subtle than this. Mabye they are your favourite band and so you don't relaise it, but Laibach were never about bluntness.
That you think that I don't like a song merely because of the lyrics is quite silly.
Oh, I get it, it must be unconcious! It must be that I can't stand to hear opposing opinions! It can't be that it is below their usual standard
And for the love of God, please don't reply with "You're a snob who thinks that artists are best when they are raw and young, that "the old stuff was better mentality"".
This is, in fact, a reversing of maturity, they used to be a band of suggestion, here they aren't.
Your only argument is that I must be wrong, because I'm a Royalist.
They are alll negative to a degree. Even the ones like Yisrael are a critical review of nations. Like singing "god save the queen" is like singing about israel "my country my land my ancestors"
Oh yes, but there is nothing that could be considered positive in this song, that's my point. With 'Rossiya' 'America' 'Francia' etc there is something there.
Well of course, if countries like America and Russia stuck to what their basis was when they started out.Freedom of speech and respect for it's own country and others. And the idea still lives on in it's poeple. Whatever the fascade is on the world stage pretending to represent us.
'America' seems to be a rather sarcastic song to me. The lyrics seem positive at first, but the more you listen to it, the darker it seems and the more it becomes apparent that it is in fact something of an attack against what America is today.
gerid00d, I must note that Italy has everything to do with Rome. The historical culture of a people will always mirror the modern qualities of that people. I am Swedish and my family still to this day ovserves folk holidays of historical signifigance to that nation (though under a different names than the origionals) which date back over 1000 years. Culture may change, but people today are still rooted in the traditions of their ancestors.
its easy to have ago at us about british empire but the main reason is we were just bloody good at it and everyone else failed to compete , i for one love england, its been no worse than any other colonial power, blimy the romans were far worse than us and i dont hear the italians get this much hatred against them, everyone just says what a amazing race of people they were and marvel at there achivements, well rant over by the way i love liabach lol
Like the Anti U.S. song (tirade in my opinion) this loses what the other songs have: ironic nationalism. It's just the blatant criticism and venom one would get from many "leftist" citizens of the U.S. And U.K. Which is too simple and less interesting. I do like the others though; especially Espana, France and the P.R.C.
GOD SAVE EUROPA ! turkey barbarian attack !

She is not the "head of state" in any practical sense of the phrase, that's the Prime Minister.
You confuse Ceremonial with Actual.
The one that has the missile codes is the one in charge.
She has about as much power as Oprah. (Which is however a fair amount.)
But as to murdering and torturing people with impunity as depicted in the video, no she does not have that kind of power. A real monarch does.
Example: King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia
Theoretically no one does.
Innomen 2 years ago 2
You said 'England no long has a monarchy'.
That is bullshit, no matter what wordgames you wish to play.
goatshredder 2 years ago 2
So because I can find a pillory replica in colonial Williamsburg American still has the pillory?
No.
Do I need to add the words "real" or "actual" in front of everything?
No.
Real or actual is implied.
I'm not the one playing word games.
If I had said no longer has a monarchy of ANY KIND or no longer has a CEREMONIAL monarchy, then sure.
How could I not be aware that there are still a royal family? Its freaking everywhere. Princess Diana alone is/was like more famous than Jesus.

for me this is not about irony but reflecting the fact that so called uest-you-rope... is dying and that there comes the time for panslavism people with pure hearts, fresh minds and beautiful language...

God Save their Queen!!!!!!

In fact way back in the 80's bands like 'The The' and 'The Waterboys' were drawing attention 2 the demise of 'Anglia'.
faddy24 3 years ago
The UK, or more specifically England, is up shit creek without a paddle. Economically n in most other senses. A soft liberal approach 2 immigration n law n order allied 2 comically absurd political corectness has blighted n eroded English identity n purpose. 'Anglia' is sonically satisfiying n though a tad macabre n negative is still spot on in identifiying the faded glory n sickness at the heart of old england

When since 1066 hasn't this been the case?

RESPECT
Finaly some evil music for those who dislike rap
SOYU3 3 years ago
I think this is quite possiby Laibach's worst song. I mean, sonically, it's fine, it's very pretty.
Conceptually, well, they're being straight, this is just a bit of a rant, it lacks the power of, say, Smrt Za Smrt or even Geburt Einer Nation.
Personally, I love my state, my country and Her Majesty, but my problem isn't with the message, it's that it's laid bare and because of this, it's almost like something one of their imitators would write lyrically. :(
OnTheRazorsEdge 3 years ago
Geburt Einer Nation is a Queen song.
trollfinger 3 years ago
I am aware of this, but the treatment that Laibach gave to it rendered it as their own. Goodness, I hope you are trolling, if I have a basic knowledge of underground bands such as Laibach, then I should jolly well have a basic knowledge of more popular bands. Indeed, I like Queen.
Thanks for that comment dragmio. :D
OnTheRazorsEdge 3 years ago 3
Laibach is not underground at all, actually. Just a bit reclusive since approx. 1998
TheWondermonk 3 years ago
I agree completely, except that I'm not from UK and don't care for it or its sovereign.
BTW your comment is by far the most coherent and articulate I read in a long time.
dragmio 3 years ago
I am afraid, OnTheRazorsEdge, that your problem is with the message even though you are telling otherwise. Maybe you dont realize it. The bluntness of the message, works quite well.
Your "Majesty" is nothing really to worship or keep as a proud tradition I am afraid.
My Slovenian brothers be saying it laud and clear here. Their message may be brunt, but you have to get sometimes like that. It does not diminish the quality of their work.
branimir667 3 years ago
Mabye I don't realise that my problem is with the message? Look, Laibach are one of my favourite bands and usually they are a lot more subtle than this. Mabye they are your favourite band and so you don't relaise it, but Laibach were never about bluntness.
That you think that I don't like a song merely because of the lyrics is quite silly.
Oh, I get it, it must be unconcious! It must be that I can't stand to hear opposing opinions! It can't be that it is below their usual standard
OnTheRazorsEdge 3 years ago
be quiet
richardbraintree 2 years ago
I thought they were more subtle with all the other songs on Volk.
TheClassicalLiberal 2 years ago
And for the love of God, please don't reply with "You're a snob who thinks that artists are best when they are raw and young, that "the old stuff was better mentality"".
This is, in fact, a reversing of maturity, they used to be a band of suggestion, here they aren't.
Your only argument is that I must be wrong, because I'm a Royalist.
OnTheRazorsEdge 3 years ago 3
I'm sure the brits aren't taking this video and song too kindly :)
tiby2403 3 years ago
It is a bit sad given the ambiguous or celebratory nature of all the other songs in Volk, that this one is completely negative!
AlUzzah 3 years ago
They are alll negative to a degree. Even the ones like Yisrael are a critical review of nations. Like singing "god save the queen" is like singing about israel "my country my land my ancestors"
trollfinger 3 years ago
Oh yes, but there is nothing that could be considered positive in this song, that's my point. With 'Rossiya' 'America' 'Francia' etc there is something there.
AlUzzah 3 years ago
Well of course, if countries like America and Russia stuck to what their basis was when they started out.Freedom of speech and respect for it's own country and others. And the idea still lives on in it's poeple. Whatever the fascade is on the world stage pretending to represent us.
trollfinger 3 years ago
'America' seems to be a rather sarcastic song to me. The lyrics seem positive at first, but the more you listen to it, the darker it seems and the more it becomes apparent that it is in fact something of an attack against what America is today.
Balthic 3 years ago
Attack is a strong word, if you listen to the whole album, each anthem has it's part of criticism about the country.

Italia has about as much to do with ancient Rome as Mad Max has to do with Australia

I haven't watched this video in a while. It still captivates me.
WhereBloodRunsBlack 3 years ago
gerid00d, I must note that Italy has everything to do with Rome.

Manxi108 3 years ago 6
I love Espana, because I am very Fascistic and I like to ignore the irony.
Viva Franco! ^_^
OnTheRazorsEdge 3 years ago
That's what I'm talking about! Irony so real you hope it's just that. If only Anglia and America did this. Shine on you crazy falangista.

this is a great tune. I wonder what english folk think about it. laibach are geniuses.
