I am currently in the Army....I think its interesting having served two diferent branches. It's true, the Navy has better conditions. Very funny video

Ayo, anybody out there know if you can still get in as an army officer w/a college degree if you've been arrested? 3 felonies, 1 misdemeanor as a juvenile & 2 misdemeanors as an adult. However, the adult charges are suspended pending completion of 1 1/2 years of informal probation. During which I'm attempting thus far to get a AS in Bus Admin. Could probably get juvenile offenses sealed btw. If anybody knows, could they please reply?

Don't know about the record, but they're accepting recruits without a High School Diploma (or GED) in some cases so they seem more flexible these days. As far as the AS degree, I think that will only get you to an E4 rating (NCO). I could be wrong, but that's what it was when I looked into it. I believe a minimum of a Bachelor's is required to go in as an officer. Ask around, but be wary of recruiters; they'll tell you anything to get you to sign the conscription papers.

You should be able to get your BS after your AS as long as you obtained it through an accredited junior or community college. I'd check credit transferability before enrolling. My brother was actually in ROTC at the local University while he was enrolled in a 2 year community college. I'm thinking you can take ROTC while persuing your AS degree. Talk to your local college class advisor, they can and should be more than willing to help you out.

GED/e4 for college--

The Navy takes folks who don't have a high school degree and has them get their GED in boot camp. (it's not handed to them). College fund requires that you contribute a small amount/month for one year. YMMV on how much it buys, but it might stretch to BS. Navy also pays for classes when you're in.

Probably your recruiter is able to meet his recruitment goals without having to get the waiver for the diploma--so if you were going to sign through him, you *would.*

People in the army and marine corps DO get paid more. If you're in the navy, you'd know that things like hazardous duty and combat pay exist. Depending on the circumstances, they can get paid almost double their normal pay. Is it worth it though? Nope.

The land forces are risking their lives while we sit back in the gulf and get paid the same amount.
