io mi chiedo come possa essere la sua voce senza tutte queste forzature, secondo me è molto più bella al naturale, che sicuramente è scura e potente lo stesso, se non a volte di più, tiriamo fuori le nostre di voci, non imitiamo nessuno! She did a great performance both musically and as an actress as Abigaille in Verdi's Nabucco on Oct 17 in Detroit. I was also impressed by how she came off as spirited and pleasant during the bows at the end, seemingly a very likable person.

As for Callas singing out of tune, it was a product of her aggressive personality. She tended to go sharp on some high notes throughout of her career. It is well documented.

The harsh quality of the sound let us accept, it is a matter of taste.

What is not a matter of taste is that she sounds flat in most middle range phrases and her acuti have the unique characteristic of being flat but sounding sharp at the same time!

Terrible!!! sounds like her mouth is full of cotton wool, no line, poor intonation, monochromatic and rotten diction. The interpretation is flat. Hear Gencer, Galvany, Dimitrova and others. Any similarity to Callas? perhaps the unfortunate wolliness of some of her late performances... the rest is in your imaginations

I do understand what you say about her weird sound, but she´s not obviosly adept of the "pasteurized" breed that plagues soprano voices today, sounding all the same and all too perfect..it´s even boring!`Patane has right sound for Lady Macbeth (Dark/Edge/not conventional beauty of tone and yeeellling like high notes) She might not be good for Mimi, but she´s great at this!

I strongly disagree, Verdi did ask for a dark even suffocated voice but he was very insistant on good diction always, here the words are muddled, the expression is vulgar and the line is never legato, Verdi never asked for high notes to be yelled.

If you watch the documentary on DVD of Maria Callas, you will see, I believe it was Zeffireli, who mentions this 'quasi dun uomo' (sorry if spelled wrong, do not speak Italian)..anyway, I like her approach..that´s all. I´d prefer to hear her than some lyric/sweet toned voices tryiong to sing this...she soaunds evil and choked...that´s a start.

I thought she sounded like Callas in her performance of Tosca with Jose Cura. Here it's she sounds even more like her. It's like she's been channeling her ghost. Scarey and wonderful. Luckily she doesn't have a wobble in her voice.
