You know, that just drove up the value of your General Lee up a TON! congrats on building a great car and that's so cool that John drove it! I only hope to build my own one day, but Chargers are very rare here in the North East.
There's a video Carlisle productions put out that shows john in My car leading the three cars. i think if you type in "Celebrities at Carlisle all Chrysler nationals 2011", the video will come up..i haven't had a chance to upload any of mine from Carlisle yet.
@charger19691 Yes, John drove THIS CAR At Carlisle 2011.. Did really well with the 5 speed. (Most I assume are Autos)...Signed my trunk lid and My DVD set as well. Going up to Dukes homecoming in Sperryville Va. about 2hours away this weekend. Gonna see John again. Need to get Cathy's Sig, as well as Cletus...
There is a link to John driving THIS car at Carlisle PA All Chrysler Nationals...Type in "John Schneider driving Chaney's General Lee at Carlisle 2011"...
I wouldn't worry about the interior being black, and the other things. What impressed me is the paint and graphics and the mechanicals. What type of camshaft are you using? I like the idle and the sound. So many charger owners make them so loud,(your exhaust sounds terrific) Couldn't of done better myself!
@charger19691 Typical 2 Chamber "Old skool" Flowmasters, with 2 1/2" duals, and the time honored Mopar "Purple shaft" 284/.484 Cam.....And I thank You for the kind words.
This is my favorite General Lee video on YouTube, I just love this car. I think it's awesome that you took a stripped shell of a Charger and built him into a great General Lee. I also like the fact on how you restored him. Not overly fancy and looks more authentic to me. Simply an excellent job!
I thank You... While it does have the incorrect interior color, no CB or antenna on the trunk beating the paint off every time the trunk lid is opened, and no "Fake" roll bar, the rest of the car is correct per the TV show..Including the wheels and graphics..
Folks, John Schneider (Bo Duke) is slated to drive THIS CAR at Carlsile Pa. All Chrysler Nationals this July 8th-10th...I invite all to come by and get your autograph....
I have since added the front push bar..Gonna be a blast. The CCC (Christine Car Club) will be in Building "Y"...
@TWMAN454 If you had seen these cars when I got 'em, you would'nt have paid $5.oo to get 'em out of your yard...Christine had no engine, interior, rusty, and trans was frozen...
The General Lee was nothing but a rusty shell missing EVERYTHING, including the title...I built these cars with 20 years of my life...You willing to go that far for 'em?
@d3ll001 Read the comments, as I'm only looking to add the brush guard up front..The smaller one used in the first 5 episodes filmed in Covington Ga. I have since added the decals instead of the Magnets That are on the car right now..
@6869505 Hey guy, nice ride. Whay was that tune playing? I love old MOPAR and love good tunes. I got a 65 Polara with 440. Not nearly as nice as your's though!!
@MrEvillarry@MrEvillarry Hey man, sorry it took so long to reply, but been busy. You would be correct, it IS "The Boss" himself off the "River" album.."RamRod"...
@6869505 Hey guy, sweet ride. What's that tune you got playing? Sounds like Springstein maybe? I love old MOPAR and good tunes. I got a 65 Polara with a 440 that is pretty cool. Nowhere near as nice as this ride or your Fury though!!
Haha since i own it. Great General man. Haven't seen many that have the flags under the back window though. Incredible. The General is my dream car. And you did a wonderful job on him. You have bragging rights for sure.
Nice General Lee! I have one too, but i want to do mine like yours, and remove those rear chrome trim pieces, leaving it all orange on the sail panels back there. Water can get behind them and get trapped, causing rust, which is why i want them removed ASAP! Nice looking General Lee and i also am looking a cb antenna for mine...preferably the magnet. The teardrop antenna clip scrubs the paint back there when opening it up time & time again...
From info I've learned from the Internet about the Dukes and General Lee, some sound effects were dubbed in at times if you have ever seen the movie Bullitt those car sounds are very similar to the engine sounds in "Daisys Song" episode. In the new Dukes movie, 1 of the stunt cars was a 4 speed. With your 5 speed, you'll cruise nicely down the interstate! :)
My friend you have my total respect. To have a General Lee (my favorite car of all time) and a Christine 58 Fury is a dream of mine! Your General looks great and I love the choice of camshaft you used in both cars, nice lopey idles and great sounding pipes! Great vid of the General, he seems to be set up perfectly! Hats off to you brother! Excellent job! Be proud!!!!!
Thanks So Much,,,It really makes all the long nights workin' on him well worth it to hear this...I ran a 5-speed manual cause if you listen really carfully at the junkyard scene in "Daisy's Song", it is a 4-gear...
Contrary to popular belief, the General's doors were NOT actually welded shut on the Series...John and Tom (Bo and Luke) could get in the car faster through the windows than by opening the doors...
The whole idea behind the welded doors is that the car was supposed to be a southern "Dirt track" car and of course back then, they had welded shut doors...
Since when do the General's doors open you ask? Since I own it....
Yes, I was waiting on the "Small" pushbar..Well, since completetion of "Christine", I haven't had much time to work on the General Lee..LOL..Poor guy, he's been in the garage all by himself lately...Need to get 'em both to Cruise Nights.....
I had the Magnets, (Yes, magnets) done at a local sign shop..The weels are off a GM car..The actual name of them I believe is American Racing's "Vector" wheels..They are being repopped now...
Thanks, as stated before, this was built on a tight budget back when people were actually spending huge money on General Lee's...I had the idea I'd remove them if I didn't want to drive around in the General All the time, but since completion in 2002, they've never been off the car..LOL
The car started out a 1970 Charger..IT was a basket case when I got it...It now has 440-5-speed, and 8 3/4 with 3.23 gears...I refuse to put the fake roll cage in it, or the CB antenna on the trunk, as I've seen too many paint job's on the rear of the roof ruined by that antenna banging up against it..Brushguard/push bar I might do, but only if I can get the small one like in the first five episodes...
my general lee has everything even the 2 flags crossing in the back, mines got the big block 440, with the 727 trans and its an original off the show never been repainted
You know, that just drove up the value of your General Lee up a TON! congrats on building a great car and that's so cool that John drove it! I only hope to build my own one day, but Chargers are very rare here in the North East.
