Is Subaru telepathic? I'm pretty sure Shin didn't say all that stuff outloud. Actually she does that a lot during the game, but I still love her most despit the fact that she creeps me the fuck out...she also reminds me of Little Bear.
What exactly is the "Sakura" in this game? Is Sakura a regular Japanese word or a name?? And "wars"? Are they using the term "war" as a hyperbole for all the battles you engage in with the Star Division and New York Combat Revue?
And btw, who the hell in 2010 uses the term "revue" to refer to a group of law enforcement or super-powerful people who fight evil, esp. with robots?? "Revue" sounds very outdated. They put this game in NYC but forgot that Americans would probably play it, too.
@whoo689 And the subtitle of this particular game always seemed very confusing to me. "So long, my love" wtf does that mean?? I don't recall Shinjiro ever saying "goodbye" or having to leave any of the other girls in the Combat Revue. Whose love is being said goodbye to or being lost?
I think either the Japanese developer titled this game very wrongly, or the dubbers who got it sold in the U.S. mistranslated or something.
@whoo689 Firstly, the subtitle of the game was supposed to be some reference to a movie, but got mistranslated into this.
Secondly, they used the "So Long, My Love" part towards the end, to make you believe, until the last moment, that if you want to beat the last boss and save the world, you will have to sacrifice the woman you love.
@whoo689 And lastly, if this is the 5th Sakura Wars game and it's been localized, how come the other 4 haven't (if what I heard was correct)?? How come no one in the U.S. can buy or rent the ones in English? I don't have time to learn Japanese or anything, esp. for a fuckin video game. But it'd probably be hella expensive to buy it from overseas or some import store. Not to mention I'd probably need some kind of mod chip or something to use for my North American PS2.
@whoo689 One other thing I just forgot to mention: In the other 4 Sakura Wars games, are the battle systems any better? Or are they ALL stupid fucking mecha ones with the dumbass blue meter that depletes even when you run towards enemies and other places?
@whoo689 One of the main characters of the first couple of games was named Sakura. Also, a sakura is a cherry blossom, which had a fair amount to do with the earlier games.
And the game takes place in the 1920's, so "revue" is hardly outdated. And they work at a theater, so it is appropriate. And there were like six games before this (including 2 spin-offs) that weren't translated to english, so why would they assume Americans would play it when they first made it?
Subaru is my favorite, definatly. I'm not gay, or bi, or anything of that sort, but I wouldn't mind either gender on him/her. (I guess I'm not gay or bi except in this case) ((Also, I LOVE His/her/its theme song!))
Subaru is female. There's an event in ST5 where you can see her in a swimsuit, which pretty much "proves" the whole thing. She likes to mess with people's minds, as proven by how hard it is to get her actual age; but her natural personality is sex neutral in terms of emotional response and outlook.
Well there's also the important fact that the main reason why Taiga was chosen to lead the NY trope, is because of the success used by Tokyo and Paris to have a male use romantic feelings towards him to solidify the differing personalities of the unit. If Subaru were male they would have never needed Taiga, since Subaru is quite charismatic and could have fit the role. Taiga is quite naive - so Subaru plays it off quite effectively.
@bersekershinobi Uh...not at all. Sumire is very feminine as well as being quite stuck-up and haughty. Subaru may appear a bit proud at times, but at her core she's nowhere near as arrogant as Sumire. I'd say Subaru is more like Reni if anyone.
@randomx999 Also, in chapter 5 she says that "she [Subaru] believes in Shinjiro". Still though, the writers did a good job making it hard to guess Subaru's gender. Also, where can I find said swimsuit scene?
@Mastermind109 You can't- I've played that game inside-out, and there's no swimsuit scene. And even in the bath scene, you only see her from the back, so there's no way of telling her gender.
@x0whitelily0x Thank you someone with some sense. I mean why would she need a swim suit? There would be no reason not even in the anime where they made Shinjiro look really gay -_- I'm not trying to be a jerk they just made him dress as Peppermint a lot...
"That thing?" I don't understand what that's supposed to mean. As for official info, I don't think there is any official info regarding whether Subaru is a guy or girl. However, I strongly believe that Subaru is a girl.
On the other hand, Subaru made a very clear effort throughout the game to keep his/her true gender secret. :P
However, given that up until now EVERY Kagekidan member except the player character has been female (even Reni, who was mistaken for a boy when she was first introduced), and the backstory of the series implies that males that can use Spirit Armor are practically unheard of, the odds are that Subaru is female and just likes to mess with people's minds.
AHAHAH! I love the SakuTaiV endings best of all the games (that I've played so far). I remember when I got this playing the game, it made me question Taiga's preferences. I mean, really, very few guys wouldn't be bothered by not knowing their significant other's gender.

Now that you mentioned it, I think I remember reading about that (which reinforces why I believe she's a girl).
