Just one question...with such creativity and advancement.why is Japan going into debt? I have a solution anyway...India has 650 million mobile phone users and growing..saturated with korean and european and american mobiles..the iphone is supposed to be high tech here like anywhere else.Just bring your mobiles here and Japan will go back to the 80s,economically! we have more people on mobile phones that toilets! thats another line of possible export expertise there ^_^ galapagos syndrome works!

@cillantro the problem is that most japanese apps on those phones do not work in north america. Things like tv, radio, internet, messenger are simply too advanced. As well most of the cellphones enable video calling and picture messaging (something extremely popular in Japan) but when was the last time you got a video call from someone? Japanese cellphones are basically the equivalent of a laptop in NA and so many of us own a laptop or a desktop why would one fish out more money on a cellphone?

@gangstagarfield everyone knows that....I was talking about India,where even a street vendor has a mobile phone :0 we have MMS here(multi media messaging service) which is what you talk about.Do you really think video call is cutting edge tech? HDTV on mobiles is ^^.But with 650 million user India can reduce tariffs.Besides docomo has a tie up with tata for mobile networks in India.They can provide said services.Here(India) like in Japan more people(650 mil) have mobiles so I say it would work!

@gangstagarfield Besides people shifted down from desktops to laptops coz they are more convinient right? If Japanese domestic market mobiles are introduced,it may annihilate the personal laptop market,leaving only a skeletal professional market behind.Not profitable for vendors and such so I am sure that lobby will not alllow such space age phones into the US.They started digital broadcasting in 1996... go figure.Besides japanese mobile phones have been having HDTV for more than 10 years min!!!

@cillantro Although mobile phones are more convenient, they still can't provide the same internet, speed, or word processing functions as laptops. People can use laptop for school and work purposes, mobile phones still can't match up b/c of its size. So I doubt the mobile phone market will kill laptops. It's the real keyboard that everyone wants.

@corinnesu True but a mobile phone with 1GHZ speed is as competitive as any laptp,is it not? Further it fits into your pocket and with a projection keyboard it would make our world easier! Problem here is most mobile operators even in advanced countries do not have the facilities to match such performance.That is why Japan has a galapagos syndrome with regards to technology.Their advancement is their very undoing as they can't market these very same goods abroad.They have to dumb it down!HDTV?!!
