She was unique, in part because she was using her lower register when all the other female singers were sounding like little girls. Asakura Miki really contributed an authentic sound.

i was watching densha otoko when i heard this song in ep8 (altho' it wasn't from Miki) ... and then i go "wait isn't that in jap?"
it's quite good tho' ... unlike eng versions of jap songs :-/
