  • I won't jump rope outside because my neighbors gawk so I have one of those "electronic" jump ropes. There is no rope, but two handles. You "swing' the handles and jump just like you would with a regular rope and the handles make a sound of the rope slapping the ground. It also tells you how much you are burning and how many jumps you are doing!

  • Great video Mattie, can u do another 1,200 calorie day :)

  • No wine? Booze isn't primal btw.

  • I really don't think that going primal is essential if you can't exercise. Your diet is not "normal." Even ppl on bed rest at hospitals get carbs in their meals beause grains are a vital part of a healthy diet. And they don't balloon. I do think ppl eat too much crap these days, but I wouldn't consider a serving of pasta or bread (a few servings in a day) unhealthy. The way you talk about food seems very disordered and I think its painting and inaccurate pic of health in people's brains.

  • @EwelinaPiotrowska For some people a few serves of bread and pasta can lead to stacking on the kilos and losing control of their appetites, sadly I am one of them. Lucky you if you can eat all those serves of carbs each day, not exercise and stay slim, but a lot of us simply can't. With such huge amount of the population being obese and unfit, I am always surprised when people busy themselves criticizing some one who obviously researches and cares deeply about their health.

  • @EwelinaPiotrowska Grains cause problems for many individuals in their digestive health & issues with gluten. Carbohydrates, even whole grain can contribute to insulin resistance, increased appetite & weight gain for those of us with thrifty genes. Western diets high in carbohydrates, HFCS & trans fats are causing untold misery with obesity & disease. I would definitely favour the primal plan for good health & keeping lean over bowls of pasta & bread.

  • @midas41 Have you ever thought that the loss of control over your appetite is b/c of restriction? If you deprive yourself, its a known psychological principle that you will over indulge when you get a taste. I know a lot of the pop is obese, but that is not b/c they eat starchy foods, it's because they OVEREAT on starchy foods. I am critisizing b/c I obviously DO research it myself. And what I read are the scholarly, academic journals that are reviewed by top doctors in the field.

  • @EwelinaPiotrowska No I never used to restrict carbs and constantly craved them. Now I restrict them and I never virtually never crave them.

  • And EVERY ONE I have EVER read in the world's top journals say the same thing: The average female body needs between 1800 and 2000 calories per day to function properly (not your goal weight with a "0" added to the end). Grains/carbs are not evil...they are essetial (the whole grains, brown rice, etc). These carbs will not make you fat...if you over eat on meat you will gain the same weight you would if you over eat on whole grain carbs. If you want to be lean, exercise.

  • @EwelinaPiotrowska Since meat & eggs were vilified & carbohydrates pushed look how the each generation has decided to get obese & sick. The dieticians need to re-evaluate advise for those of us that will never feel full no matter how many "healthy" carbs we eat. I have a protein shake for breakfast, apple & cheese as am snack, eggs / tuna & salad for lunch, nuts or greek yoghurt pm snack & lean meat or chicken & low starch veg for dinner, cocoa with stevia for supper. Feeling full & happy!

  • @EwelinaPiotrowska You may be one of the lucky ones who can eat that much and maintain your weight, but if I ate that much I would put on a pound or two a week. Lower calorie, lower carb diets are associated with longevity as it decreases the amount of inflammation in the body. People used to eat meat & 3 veg & there was no where near the amount of obesity since bread, pasta, rice, pizza. I feel for the first time in my life I have an eating plan that works for me & I am sticking with it.

  • And there are gluten free straches (yams, potatoes, certain breads, certain pastas), and insulin resistence is usally a result of refined carbs. Diabetics are not told to completely cut out carbs, they are told to eat carbs that are released slowly, preventing insulin resistence (ie., whole grains). I do care deeply about my health and in caring I know that 1200 cals a day and 0 carbs is unhealthy (e-mail a registered dietician, ANY registered dietician, and they'll tell you the same).

  • @EwelinaPiotrowska Diabetics are encouraged to eat the biggest percentage of their food intake in low GI Carbs .. & guess what most of them get progressively worse as their pancreas simply can't keep up with the high level of blood sugar those foods cause ... they end up on more medications to keep their blood sugar under control. Simply ridiculous when they could eat primal & exercise and have much better control. The medical evidence is mounting against bread and pasta - watch?v=pXE4aVIJXIw

  • Your videos are great. Thanks for sharing your beauty secrets.

  • Mattie, I'm a 38 year old woman in Paris, France and I love your videos! I have nothing against the wonderful, creative 20something year-old women on youtube who publish their make-up tutorials and reviews but I've been wearing make-up for longer than many of them have been alive and have (like most women our age) vast experience with everything beauty, fitness and health related. I've therefore had trouble finding videos that address my interest & issues..until I found you. I LOVE your content!

  • I completely agree! It's very important to watch what goes into your mouth.

Hey, any tips for what I can do if there is no gym around? My dear gym has closed and I don't like the alternatives. Liked the jumping rope idea. I should try it :)

  • Mattie... you look awesome! Face looks a little chiseled have you had something done?

    You look fabulous!!!

    xoxo

  • Aaaw, so sorry to hear of your injury Mattie but I'm so glad you're back and making more videos for us. Love, love, love your videos!! Question please Mattie - how do you apply your foundation? How do you feel about brush applications and cosmetic sponges over finger application? Happy, healthy, successful 2012! ((hugs)). Leyla :) xxoo

  • ... and at the same time, exercise - even vigorous - won't help much if your diet is CRAP.

People need to cut out the refined/processed foods. Too much refined/processed carbs/sugars and processed meats are horrible. I don't care if people want to be vegan or primal - either diet cuts the crap out. My personal feeling is vegans need to supplement though, if they want to choose that route due to loss of nutrients.

  • I think many people have the exercise idea wrong... There are many obesity experts/researchers now suggesting exercise isn't important to weight loss (Taubes, Harcombe, etc.) and Zoe Harcombe even went as far as to call it USELESS recently.

However, I've found that VIGOROUS exercise does play an important part in weight loss. Nope, I don't think walking or slow-jogging on a treadmill does much.

But push-till-you-puke (almost) vigorous exercise helps tremendously, I've found.

  • That's what my mom always says too! Great advice!

  • I think you got the title of the video wrong ;)

  • @MissMaayLove So right!

guess that jumping rope made me more tired than I thought! Thanks
