Interesting comments about Afghanistan, Iraq and "choice," but those issues have nothing to do with the debate over healthcare. Diverting attention away from the matter at hand is a common tactic, when one is unable or unwilling to address the specific issue that was raised. The fact remains that the healthcare bill passed by Congress was so poorly planned that even the lawmakers who wrote the bill have exempted themselves from it. Now THAT sounds like something out of a Marx Brothers movie!

Funny, but like most liberal positions, a gross oversimplification of reality. One of the lines in the song is "Even though you've thoroughly expensed it, we're against it." The problem is that the Democrats have NOT bothered to "expense" this debacle of a bill. It will drive the country further into debt, and will ultimately drive heath care costs up, not down.

Although taxes are lower under Obama, it still costs something to live in a great society & "promote the general welfare." I don't mind paying for my roads & police, but I hate that my taxes also go to a war of choice that has cost the lives of over 4300 of our irreplaceable troops. Sadly, I don't get to choose.

There will always be those who don't pay their share, be they citizen, illegal immigrant or corporation, and collecting evaded taxes or jailing/deporting scofflaws is expensive. So offer a practical suggestion & you'll have lots of support. Getting freeloading corporations to pay up could be a very popular approach.

@AmericaBeforeAgenda It is redistribution. The concept of taking what I work for so others can receive it without earning it is fundamentally flawed and a moral hazard. The Federal Government has specific duties: defending the country and creating courts for settling claims among the citizens.

The concept of "large and unwieldy" suggests a predilection for centralized power on your part, else there's nothing the government needs to "wield".

Congress should meet 3 months every two years.

Congress often ignores the will of the majority, then election day often changes Congress, thereby trumping dictatorship (ie 2006). However, Congress followed the will of the majority with the recent health insurance reform bill, though not to the extent that the majority would have liked. But it's a positive start. I suspect we might disagree on that as well.

Over the past 60 years, the system has been a ratchet, that moves to redistribute and take power, but the backswing is simply blocked: no Statist move, no entitlement has yet been reversed. I'm looking forward to beginning this slow process this November.

*Name one other entitlement won against the majority.of the people.
