  • ReAD a comment this was it was on bad santa when they break into the mall then the safe

  • Hah i love that handlebar miustache from the heineken commercial

  • some parts would easyli fit into "the godfather"-theme...

  • Now hear this, quarelling over Rieu while the best composer's of modern times music is playing in the background. You must be sick, really.

  • espectacular, que sonido

  • 13 people has been killed by Shostakovich

  • was this ever used in a movie? does anyone know?

  • @nextlifearotti Eyes wide shut. Stanley Kubrick ,Tom Cruise,Nicole Kidman

  • this is one of the best musical masterpiece that i have heard

  • This is absolutely gorgeous...

  • I like this waltz. It has a bittersweet flavor. I imagine a decrepit ballroom with very old people dancing, reminiscing the good times of their youth. Why is that.? I must find out the background on how Shostakovich came to compose this waltz. I wonder if he had the same feeling?

  • @Etnecserc You maybe picking up on the Russian in it, what could be more bitter sweet?

  • piekny walc

Rieu? Abhaken! Unter die 5-Prozent-Hürde gefallen!

  • What does this third, or worse, class "musician" André RIEU think who he is?

    Good for nothing.

  • who is Rieu?

    nothing to discuss.

    Only on 3rd class TV.

  • This is perfect. Great composer and great performers. Beautiful music.

  • I too watched Rieu version and this one is definitely boring this is 2011 get with the times.

  • I just watched Rieu version which was lovely and thought I would check out other versions. This one is so lifeless its putting me to sleep. It DOES matter how you do render it.

  • @true2himself exactley, the elitist snobs dont like the fact that andre rieu is getting so much praise and attention.bravo andre rieu,id pay to see him and his orchestra every day of the week.

  • Copy and paste: "Gustavo Dudamel / SBYOV Shostakovich Symphony 10.mvt I 3/4"

  • bravo

schade. Dabei ist der Walzer so wundervoll

  • too slow. nobody can dance to this, imagine

  • I got interested in this piece after hearing it done by - oh my god! - Andre Rieu. Just another case of the good ambassador work he does for music that doesn't exactly get a lot of airplay these days most places. And you can't expose literally millions of people to good music if there aren't millions of people eager to LISTEN to you, and to get THAT, yes, you have to be a little marketing savvy. The common alternative is "welfare classics" played by subsidized musicians to damn near nobody.

  • @BedBugAcres Exactly right, my friend. If Rieu is what it takes to introduce people to great music, then he is doing great work. I won't dismiss him as a musician until I hear him give a serious performance with a world class orchestra. He is fine at what he does, no denying.

  • Imádom!

Ez volt a fiam szallagavató zenéje :))))))))))))))

  • i love the song, but it needs more energy. It crescendos and you expect it to be loud, but it just is not there.

  • @mdifranco7

You are right. It's like everybody's playing mechanically or in a trance...

  • Absolutely sublime. I just adore this music.

    DEMAREZ

  • I used this piece as my wedding waltz, I fell in love with it the first time I heard it.

  • I like your comment monsieur ereenik "can't get enough of this"

  • Beautiful. I'm about to cry right now.

  • General theme is a typical Russian music.

  • I play this music ! : D

  • estos son artistas de verdad!!

  • this brings great feelings, russians has good culture

    GREAT!!!

  • It's so great to dance to this song <3

  • Why the hell you guys are bashing Rieu?

You should be thankful that he is THAT succesful - more and more people are interessted in classical music. Including me.

  • @maxschierstinkt

    signed!

  • es gibt nicht schöneres!!!!!!!!!!! Ich liebe es"

  • What's all the talk about Andre Rieu? This is not his orchestra at all, it's a concert band. Unfortunately not named.

  • @boellewillu These are members of the University of De La Laguna Orchestra. The university is located in Spain.

  • bellissima sinfonia *.*

  • people always complain that this kind of music is superior to sth that others think. I believe that they totally ignore this kind of music. Share this video with them with just a smile and you'll find out!!

Above all only smile with tears can this kind of music bring.

  • Beau morceau Nous vous proposons notre version

    Michel et Jean

  • Great playing BRAVO!

  • A beautiful waltz

  • Please dont compare.--- Eagles doesnt have a point with this pieces of music. Eagles is rock and pop ..this is pure and wonderful instrumental music. I love this music, but I also like Eagles very much, but both have different, I dont think that someone had the crazy idea choosing between them. However, if someone ask me what type of music would you prefer between this opera instrumental music or rock I would sure choose this one.

  • @JOZEPAL I sort of agree. As a classical musician who loves Shostakovitch+Rachmaninov etc,I do think that comparing rock/pop to classical works is just pointless. They are like oil and water. It is like comparing a Rembrandt to a cartoon comic. Both are very skilled but neither is comparable. I often listen to Beethoven+Debussy in the car-but then sometimes feel a bit of Elton John! Elton+ the Eagles- don't pretend to be 'great art' like Beeethoven. But they still have artistic credibility.

  • CA C'EST DE LA MUSIQUE!! bonne continuation à tous

    Amicalement Jean-Luc Th

  • Ottimo.

  • Andre took this masterpiece and sexed it up. Kinda like Ted Turner colorizing b & w movies.

  • Why are dicussing Andre Rieu.. he is not even on this video

I like Rieu and i also like Wagner,Beethoven and many others..

so were does that put me

  • You know, I know some old folks who like Rieu because he is the opposite extreme of classical music's unwritten rules and snobbery, not to mention delusions of grandeur. They're just farmers and hoi polloi who cherrish him. If it makes them happy, I am happy for them. Personally, I don't favour either extreme.

And if I may quote from another side of "the classics"...

'Clowns to the left of me... jokers to the right...

here I am,... stuck in the middle with you....'

  • If it wasn't for Andre, I would have never found this gem of a melody....Thank you, Andre, you led me to love and discover classical treasures! He is not the stuffy musician I sometimes avoid....

  • runeguldberg-Haitink's Concertgebouw cd's of Shostakovitch 5+8 are very well played +recorded.

  • @AnautumnsDay-I disagree.Actually he does it in a way that's a bad advert for Classical! He makes it into a cheap clappalong Walmart muzak product. If anyone who does'nt know any Classical thinks Rieu represents real Classical than that is bad news! Note Rieu himself in interviews is mocking of 'pure' Classical concerts as 'dreary' etc and fans are encouraged to avoid these! Even pop classics like Hebrides Overture,Holst Planets are ignored so his fans never hear the real depth music can bring.

  • @blueyedboy84 First of all, this is not classical music, It is instrumental but is not considered classical. If he makes people enjoy this music, isn't that a good thing? Or are people just supposed to sit and be bored to death hearing music. This song is a WALTZ, Thus is meant for people to WALTZ to!

  • That is an extremely cruel and harsh thing to say about Andre Rieu and his music. The man brings some of the most beautiful tunes ever written, into the public domain for all to hear. He also does it in such a fashion as to break down the barriers of elitism and snobbery that wrongly or rightly is associated with classical music . Surely, this can only be of benefit to all who play and listen to classical music ?

  • @AnAutumnsDay

I totally agree. A Rieu is playing his part in bringing real music to the 21st century!

  • Why are we discussing Rieu? NO pro musicians take him seriously-as you said he's businessman of the year.Certainly not musician of the year!

Why do you say everyone loves him?? He is not respected at all by Classical players as he turns Art into commercial pap.

If u really want to hear Shostakovitch hear a real orchestra do symphony 5 or 8 (you will NEVER hear Rieu play any of his symphonies as they can't be reduced to clappalong pulp).

  • I will do that. I really want to hear Shostakovitch hear a real orchestra do symphony 5 or 8.

  • @cheamverdi

Dont you think there is so much sadness in the world today with war, starvation, recession it is a relief to see people from all walks of life joining together with Andre to sing and dance and be happy for a couple of hoursx

  • @cheamverdi HERE HERE !!

  • @cheamverdi sorry but andre rieu made a lot of people listen to shostakovich, strauss, etc. ok is a businessman, but i'm glad that many people will listen to classic music ( sorry for my english )

  • @cheamverdi

You should think twice before you say such things. Take a look at Anre Rieu's "I love you" which he composed himself. It is absolutely incredible.

  • @cheamverdi Lolfail. Rieu apparently diiiid. watch?v=LX1fiE0U1qA&feature=related

  • @cheamverdi

Regardless what you think of Rieu, he has composed some absolutely beautiful pieces himself. Look into Rieu's "I love you"

  • @cheamverdi yea but im a lover of all music i respect musicians no matter bad or not

  • @cheamverdi You are accusing Rieu of not doing what he is not trying to do. Johann Strauss II never programmed a Brahms symphony (although both men admired each other greatly).

  • @cheamverdi The thing about Rieu is that he dropps everything you just said about true art and stuff to the level of "commoners". Art is for everybody, not just "Classical players" and "pro musicians". Music isn't for them it's for the people who listen to them. I wish things were like old times, when professional musicians had to scrape a living... they were humble, if not modest, they were at the "commoner's" level, they knew what they felt, and hence wrote music accordingly.

  • Romance melody

  • Well, he has set this all up on his own. In the beginning, everyone was laughing at him, and now everyone loves him and he is not for nothing the bussisnisman of the year! His orchestra is also very good! But he started everything! André, you have done it great and you have chosen your orchestra well!

  • ok, ok you are right

  • it is just very frustrating to see him get all the credit for his orchestra's work. it happens all the time.

  • when Brit's had a beer and a turkey in the PUB Russian people had nothing to eat ,Russian soldiers died in the Stalingrad battle during second WW2.Schostacovich wrote this walts at this time ,he never left Leningrad, during the blocade of this city. But Brit's never helped us,.Dimitry Shostacovich is a man ,unlike sissy queers from Britain.!!!

  • Im playing this song :D

  • Rieu plays it too fast!

  • it's okay, but andré Rieu plays it better.

  • Rieu's ORCHESTRA plays it better. not just Rieu... he is not the whole show you know.

  • okay the part where the trombone plays the solo, and enters the second phrase (where the trumpets come in) trombone is not supposed to play that "melody" part he is supposed to harmonize with trumpets... sounded weird

  • wonderfully played.

  • ...molto ,molto CARINA...!!

come solo la BANDA sà trasmettere...

  • Musica straordinaria....

  • The piece itself is heavenly, of course, and pure magic. Not a fan of this recording, though, much too oom-ta-oom-ta-ta-Sunday-afternoon-stroll-in-the-park-brass-band-style. boring! There are much more passionate recordings, that literally sweep you off your feet.

  • splendida

  • it's like acting to maxime, the instruments are all behind a simpel melodie...this music is not selfish...graceful

  • Graceful is the perfect word to describe this composition. I couldn't have put it better myself.

  • The best waltz to dream away

  • Amen!

  • this is another music, another planet, another class...

it is over all the rest of music...

  • @shervman What people :) Like Herman Hesse wrote, no everyone becomes a human in their lifetime. To become a human being is an enormous task, not easily accomplished.

  • @kanudoss Very nice!

  • @shervman You are right. Today people simply can't understand such music. For them Shostakovich is too compicated.

  • @shervman Pop culture ftw >.<

  • My favourite piece of classical musik!

  • Great! I love this waltz!

  • Some sad notes ocurred in this waltz which translates us to the melancolich Rusia. It seems to me seeing waltzing Yuri Zhivago and Lara. Very melancolich I Insist

  • womderful

  • very good!!

  • Defintely, this piece invites you to dance!!!

    Bravo!

  • This is definitely a unique piece. Shostakovich is a contemporary composer and it's a pleasant to hear something new every once in a while away from the normal Mozart and Beethoven that I hear on a daily basis. Thank you for posting it.

  • Shall we dance!

  • laala laala

we play this in brass band

    is nice :)

  • amazing

  • very nice...

  • All of you should play (PLAY!) this piece to know it. And after that, you coultd criticize this performance.Viva la Tenerife!

  • the saxplayer should hold the beat longer

  • It's a good piece. I think the recording is kind of bland, though.

  • Great music for driving through Dallas. :-)

  • I LIKE MEN

  • I LIKE WOMEN

  • I LIKE PIANO

  • lol I still don't get how you got all those thumbs down, your comment was hillarious, natural progression lmao

  • they dont have a sense of humor, huh!!! lol

  • mm it's good but indeed shostakovich never would be considered as a genious as rachmaninov and prokofiev and scriabin and stravinsky from the 20 century...

  • Very critical, yet Rachmaninov is a genius.

  • this is shostokovich....

  • this is so beautiful, both happy and sad.

  • This piece is so enchanting... another one of those pieces you hear everywhere but never know what it's called or who composed it lol. Very nice!

  • That is so true lol

I love this piece, really...is absolutely perfect

  • Kubrick used this piece perfectly in his movie "Eyes Wide Shut"....

  • Trombone theme is fantastic...

  • this song makes me daydream of a love story taking place in europe...I love it

  • Ha ha ha, does this song give you romantic daydreams/delusions too? I thought it was just me. :)

  • I have to admit that this is the one of the most beatiful waltz that I have ever heard!!!!!! Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love this waltz soooo much!

  • BEAUTIFUL & WONEREFUL!!!!!

  • wonderful!!!!!!!!!

  • swee!

  • wow... nice... no, wonderful!

  • beautiful and....great solists!

  • This is a goose-skin waltz oh dimitri

  • Very polished....Fine job!

  • Great played...not to fast and very sustaining. That´s very good.

  • I can't even begin to explain how beautiful it sounds. I can see a huge ballroom or a masquerade and everyone dancing in concert with one another! =)

  • Oddly as do I.

  • MITICO DMITRI

  • so beautiful, the melancholic note lingers on...

  • I love it....closing my eyes and waltzing with my man....what a nice visual !!

  • sublim...
