  • I <3 the Rufus Wainwright cameo!

  • best in the family

  • love him - agree that he ought to be bigger than he is. He was FANTASTIC at the Elton John concert, all by himself. Funny guy too. Really, really like him n wish him the best.

  • Excellent pop song. Great singer.

  • i saw this guy performin on the red piano tour, he was really good live :D many nice pieces!

  • This a great song from teddy thompson,it has fab sixties feel to it.Luv seening rufus wainwright camping it up as usual!

  • big musician

  • How can you not like this song? Uplifting and concise. I suppose there are a number of people who are determined to be down whatever the weather!! remorsefulgirl1, you need to leave university and get living! EMO DESTROYS LIVES. Ha Ha

  • its sucha happy tunneee hahahaa i love it!

  • OMG, it's not undeveloped, it's just the way it is!

Does every single music needs to have thousands of effects and everything else?

The music is simple, like the melody asks.

And it's one of the best songs I've heard lately...

  • mmm i agree with sportsperson92. it's just a little monotonous... well, "undeveloped" was the right term.

  • this guy is an underveloped star!

  • I totally agree. He should be much more bigger then his is.Fab voice and a great songwriter

  • I can't stop listening to it...

    love from 1:45 to 2:15

    so good

man they are having fun! :)

  • *Sigh* forgot how much I love this song!

  • It isn't a bad song...but it is not very developed...I am surprised it lasted three minutes....and how many people actually liked it a lot

  • Well, why don't you tell us what about this song is undeveloped? I don't hear it...

  • Haha love how Rufus just busts some moves on the piano. Awesome.

  • hes going to be the next dwight yoakam

  • sounds like michael buble

  • If you think this sounds great, buy the song and play it on a really good stereo system it is truly fantastic!

  • Teddy Thompson's great. His sound is a great mesh of old and new styles, both great styles. Great stuff.

  • So smooth; can play it over & over without tiring of it.

  • great song!

  • teddy thompson is rock 'n roll royalty as far as I am concerned, in a direct line from Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison..

What a beautiful voice and a great clip!

The girl is gorgeous by the way. Who is she???

  • Truer words were not spoken about this entertainer; well put!

  • shes my girlfriend...no big deal

  • i love this jam got it on my phone today from complimentary ringer. com luuving it

  • Saw Teddy live yesterday in Newburyport. Great performance.

  • his voice is very nice to listen to, but he is not pleasant to watch sing

  • Exactly Mollie !! He is nothin like his Dad. I'm sure that is the biggest compliment for him. And thank goodness for the YouTube situation... if you are yearning for his Dad..... all you have to do is type in..... Richard Thompson... it's just that easy.

  • greatfull

  • OMG, Rufus is tubby! Get on a diet, you queen!

  • Nice little cameo from Rufus there.

  • Am listening to Teddy more -

He is in difficult position - a great talent in his own right. Better if one does not know/love the work of his parents.

Tis' a step legacy to reach.

Shall enjoy Teddy for his work - no comparisons needed. His talent is his own.

  • YEP. WHERE ARE ALL THE DECENT GUYS?

  • I need three of him for my gorgeous daughters.

  • your one of those crazy bitches aren't you?

  • Heard him play this live on Jonathan Ross radio show, excellent

  • Great song .....

  • He is awesome! come back to America, Teddy!!

  • Teddy Thompson is playing the Shepherds Bush Empire in London on Thursday (12th Feb)

  • Awesome!

  • check out my page. I have a great version of teddy doing "In My Arms".

  • "eat ur heart out Bruce Springsteen, that tune has already been taken!!"

I heard Bruce's version this afternoon and thought I'd heard it before....here!

  • eat ur heart out Bruce Springsteen, that tune has already been taken!!

and gosh, Teddy is so much better looking

  • hahaha Rufus Wainwright is hilarious on the organ-thingie, what a crazy and lovely man !!They both seem to have o lot of fun in this vid !!

Nice song (but I prefer In my arms by Rufus Wainwright)

  • Great music I have two of his albums and they are great. It's good he is doing his own thing and not sounding like his dad. Although you can hear Richards distinctive guitar playing on his first album......Luke

  • You name-callers and foul-mouthed 'fans' are disgusting. Yes, Richard is legendary and talented beyond measure, but give the kid credit. He's better than most. And I WAS there at the beginning! I like Teddy's voice and this song is really o.k. Grow up out there.

  • Nice song...but isn't this the same intro as "That Thing You Do" by The Wonders from the Tom Hanks movie?

  • i am very fond of this music, fantastic!

  • great sound its like on old hammond organ

  • teddy's more subtle

  • fuck you mollie teddy is far more legendary than richard

  • nothin like his dad

  • what a voice this guy has!

  • teddy thompson is the best, love you teddy !! xx

  • teddy thompson is the best, love you teddy x x

  • Teddy Thompson reminds me, in his acoustic versions of David Wilcox in Language of the Heart.

  • LOL @ Rufus. Oh God.

  • Such a ridiculously amazing voice, what a fantastic song. Happy happy happy

  • i LOVE his voice! what a VOICE!

  • Elvis, Chris Isaak, the Mavericks and now:

    Teddy Thompson !!,great singer,super song!

  • He makes it look so easy!

  • He's done it again...what a voice.

  • Teddy...smiling??...that's just not right. He is supposed to be a melancholy bugger. I don't buy his happy-go-lucky act one bit!

  • I think he is great, he is having fun, just like Elvis in the good old times.

  • i heard this music in a store. i didn't know the name or the singer but i just loved it and tried to look for it. there! thank you for posting this great music.

  • Teddy is touring UK and Ireland in Jan/Feb 2009. Check his Myspace for dates.

  • This is the first I have heard of TT and I love it. Great music great singing and great lyrics. Where are they from?

  • Teddy is English, his parents are Richard and Linda Thompson, pretty much folk royalty :) Teddy's a solo artist so like Rufus, his backing band tends to change around.

I believe lately the band The Grey Race have been opening for Teddy at his own shows (not the James Blunt ones) and are also his band, they're based in NY. hope that answers your question :)

  • Thanks so much for that. It was great to have that info. Cheers

  • Is that Rufus Wainwright on piano in the middle of the vid?

  • Yep, that's our boy.

  • thats "our" boy :S

  • He was in cardiff supporting james blunt, not bad, sung this song twice tho :/

  • Great song - great cameo - and love the hug at the end! Mmmm....

  • Saw him at James Blunt at the Ice Arena in Nottingham. Reminded me of a cross between Roy Orbison and the Mavericks. Brilliant!

  • Sorry any fans but James Blunt is ok, Teddy Thompson is awesome!!

  • i saw him the other night supporting james blunt he was really gd :)

  • Hey pawnshops- shut the fuck up this was still a free country when I got up this morning.

I agree dygdub he has a similar twang to RM/DY.

  • this is a legend of a song! saw him live last night with james blunt in sheffield! great band, id never heard of him but i think hes got skills now!

  • ¡Viva Teddy!

¡Viva 'A Piece Of What You Need'!

  • hes cool i saw him in cardiff when he was supporting james blunt

  • hey kim,

I was in amsterdam too. I heard when he told you were 'his favourite' heehehe.

  • I saw Teddy in Amsterdam with James Blunt.

He said I was the coolest person there (5000 people) And He Sang a Song for me :D!! I love him for sure!!!

  • I agree, definitely sounds like Raul Malo and also Dwight Yoakam must be an influence too.

  • I'M SEEING JAMES BLUNT ON OCTOBER 8th!

  • I'm from scotland. never heard of him until jeremy vine played him on national radio 2Told my friends about him..nice voice...

  • gd song

  • really like this from the first time I heard it a real feel good song.

  • 2 rgt

  • Don't knock the simple basic stuff that makes ya happy ;) 3 chords and a great hammond organ break, great song, great mix, feel good record ;)

  • Thanks for posting...peace...j.o...

  • Very catchy tune

a touch of the roy orbisons but still a great sound liked it from the fist listen (very Radio 2)

  • perfection in a tune. seems to capture a feel of every era from 50's till now. grabbed me from first time hearing.

  • I only just found this guy via The Sundance Channel. Sometimes I think I must live under a rock. This guys voice reaches me on many different levels. I can't believe I just found it???

  • for a lowly pop single.....

    utter, utter, brilliance

can't help thinking of the Justin Hayward, but so much the better.

No I can see the Bright Lights tonight...

  • I adore this video so much. I love Rufus' cameo and I just LOVE all of Teddy's smiling. It seems to be so rare. Thank you so much for posting this!

  • been on radio 2 all week... magic song

  • Yup, have heard it on radio 2 all wee too. It's a great track

  • top tune

  • what a cracking song and the video too

  • i think this song is really really lovely!

  • I'm hoping to buy the album this weekend,so look for the song on LIMEWIRE on Monday.

  • I like the fact that you are buying the album, but dont just give it to ppl on limewire let them buy it themselves to give the band some support!

  • Hi Steven,

I realised after I had posted the comment that it was a stupid thing to do and I don't know how to delete it now !

By the way,the album is Fantastic so all you fans should go out and buy it. xx

  • :) i think ill buy it, this song is great

  • go on teddy!!! make them ave it. what a brill song cant stop humming it lol

  • love it xox

  • what an amazing song!

  • Check out the acoustic version Teddy Thompson did at WNRN in my videos.

  • richard thompson is one of my heroes even though i only got into his music when rumour & sigh was released. i've heard some of teddys stuff before & liked it.

this song was great until radio 2 played it to death. overkill i'm afraid. rufas' going to a town is great too.

  • First time I have heard of this guy and the song, but my immediate impression is this is destined for the number 1 slot

  • dis song is cool!!!!!!

  • lool, not a lot of room to get lost... in my arse, in my arse! great song though love it!!

  • For some reason when I hear this I hear the word arse instead of arms. I like the songs but it does sound like he's saying In my arse at times which isn't great = P

  • oops ,sorry i said 3rd lp ,i mean't 4th! sorry...Anyway i still say you will whistle/hum this for ages after you hear it!

  • i think Richard and Linda Thompson can be righteously proud of their son..this comes from (i think) his 3rd solo record and my God is this one catchy song...you will whistle this for some time to come....

  • Great Artist...Richard Thompson on electric guitar!

  • He's good, but the old man's in a different league.

  • hi my name is bernard law i only got to hear teddy when the cd was put on tv for sale but i would like to hear more what r his other cds like if they r like this they will be number one

  • This is such a great song. I had the pleasure of seeing him live with Rufus Wainwright at Kenwood. He is even better live! I also like the cheeky cameo by Rufus in this video :)

  • I also heard this on Radio 2 this week and it has been in my head ever since. Quality track and very very catchy! Top marks to Mr Thompson.

  • Great feel good song.Makes a change fron all the so called "in Depth" droning bilge floating about. Keep strummin Ted.

  • Great song,shit video

  • Why do people always seem to put him in a video with a nice glossy image in mind ? His music has more depth than the videos.

  • A truly good pop song with video to match. He has other good songs s well

  • Great song, nice vid, terrific vocals. Shades of Chris Isaak here, but terrific stuff.

  • GREAT song!!!

I heard this on BBC radio 2 all last week.

More of the same please Teddy!

  • i thought this was a going to be a cover of In My Arms by Rufus Wainwright. it wasnt, but Rufus was in the video anyway. what a lovely coincidence.

  • I have the same ear-worm issue with the song, especially the honkin' big organ bridge, with the Leslie speaker sound.

What a truly great tune and performance.

  • great song it's constantly in my head!!

  • Now wait a second, let me see if I understand this correctly. The girl he passes on the midway, well, she gives him a look and he notices....right?

Then he looks at her. They realize they are attracted to each other and then by the end of the song, they make eponymous and end up in each other's arms?

    It's a bit of a stretch....very Fellini, very Lynch.....but I think I've got it.

p.s. He's got such a good voice, he should shitcan the fake guitar strummery.

  • Fake guitar strummery?

There's nothing fake about it, my friend.

He was a guitarist in the Richard Thompson band for the best part of 10 years.

  • love it love it love it...I'm going to drive everyone mad playing this constantly!!!

  • brilliant...love it

  • Heard it once & know it will be a winner.Well done Teddy.

  • Love it.

  • OMFG!!! ...IT´S RUFUS!!!... i love it!

  • how can he be a one hit wonder, this is taken from his fourth album.

  • I'd never heard of him either, but it takes a cracking good song like this to sometimes get people like me to notice (I'm old you see, and not in the swing)From his 4th album huh? What have I been missing all these years, I'll have to look them out, thank you.

  • good little tune !! but will be another 1 hit wonder . carl in SCARBOROUGH

  • I listened to this earlier and I've been singing it ever since, great song :)

  • He`s a handsome chap, looks like David Ducovny, but his voice isn`t as strong as his (ugly) dad, sorry, nice song though.....

  • Reminds me of the songs of Raul Malo and the Mavericks - agree with all the positive comments good song

  • Teddy came into our studio this morning. Check out our page to see the interview and performance of "in my arms"
