The Zakspeed Capris weren't touring cars, they were Silouhette group 5 racing cars in the GT series. The modern comparison is the GT1 series with Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Corvette etc as opposed to the Touring Car championship.

The original Zakspeed capris had 1.4 liter BDA turbos, basically the 1970 to 1973 escort rs1600 engines 16 valve cosworth cylinder head and the short stroke 1100cc/1300cc block bored/linered out to 1400cc, later ones went to 1.7 liter and 560 bhp at 20lb of boost i seem to remember

it begs the question of why they didnt use a bigger engine lol! is that the same engine that they put in the Escort RS 1700? also its a shame that car never made it to full production.

Maybe the engine block was the same but nothing else! the first season they had a 1,4 turbo with 380hp and in 1980 it was upgraded to 460hp, and after that they used the 1,7.
