ive had my 60gb ps3 since release date now, and its finally packed up. i dont get yellow light, but the console turns itself off, then starts to flash red. is this definitely the same problem as yellow then red?? i have 100s of pounds worth of downloads and my account is already active on 4 consoles meaning this is the last one, and i just want to know if youre positive this will work. i would be happy and very grateful if people would let me know if this works please :)
Serious Question: I called sony and they said it was the disk drive that broke. but you fixed something else?why is that? Im about to buy all the stuff and i want to make sure i"m doing this for a reason
@LuCaSfReNcHfRi whats wrong with it if you are getting green yellow red its not the disc drive they just want you to send it in so they can get that money
I heard spreading it is detrimental in the long run. The spread begins to bubble and over flow onto the mother board. Is this true? I heard of the single pea method where you place a single dot of arctic silver in the middle and that's it.
Hey man thx alot for the video, well done... Just have a question though, I did the reflow and right after, the ps3 worked for about 3 minutes (literaly) then went straight back to the red light my fans werent turning on for some reason ( i had them plugged in). I did another reflow with an industrial heat gun just to come up to the same result. This time ps3 once again stayed on a litle while and back to red light right away.. Im pretty sure the solder on my board is scrap... 2nd opinion?any1
@l3rassl3alls Was it YLOD or Blinking Red Light? If it was the latter, I read somewhere that it could also be a faulty PCB on the Blu-ray. I haven't tried this so, can't vouch for it.....
I know what I'm saying is correct no matter what you think or have! Like I said Arctic Silver Co. Says DO NOT spread.use pea method. Because when you spread air gets trapped between the heatsink and GPU/CPU and cause air bubbles making the product not work properly! When using Pea method the heatsink will spread evenly across filling any air pockets in the process! If you ask me ,I think I'm very smart for my age
One of my son's friends broke my PS3 and I definitely didn't want to go and get one of the newer ones~they don't have everything the originals do. So I did everything you said and YOU ROCK because my PS3 is working again! Thank you so much! I really appreciate all the time and effort you put into this!!
No disrespect intended... but what does "re-flowing" the chips actually do? I have experience with overheating laptops and I'm familiar with replacing the thermal compound but I've never heard of the re-flow concept.
@ShootME552 reflow is a short term for REFLOWING THE SOLDER UNDERNEATH THE CHIPS. Led free cracks and crumbles over time so this way you re-solidify it and get rid of the disconnection. Reapplying new thermal very rarely works, and i also do re-balls as well. BTW that was not disrespectful at all was a legit question in my opinon

This isn't a bad idea, but I'll tell you right now, don't put on the thermal paste with your finger, that IS a bad idea. You want to use a nonpowdered glove, or at least a plastic bag, that isn't currently attracting static electricity. I prefer vinyl gloves, as I have a latex allergy. But putting it on with your fingers will no doubt result in your fingers natural oils getting mixed in with the Arctic Silver...making it less effective.
if you dont want it on your finger tightly wrap a plastic bag around your finger so the surface is smooth then rub it in and just take off the plastic bag it may save you some thermal paste

yeah mate you are the man, followed your instructions but the only differance was that my heat gun puts out 520c not 350c, little less time and a bit further away and it worked the first time , how long will it last for ???? thanks heaps buddy legendary
Well I got to say that you're fix was right on the money. I have a 80g that I bought when they 1st came out, and it was running like a champ till today. Watched you're fix and now it runs better than when I 1st brought it home. Thanks man. Damn YLOD can definitely kiss my ass.
Hello there. I've been watching your vids for about 3-4 days straight now because my PS3 died a couple days before Christmas. I have done everything your vids tell me. I tested to make sure my unit was working properly (and it was) before putting everything back together. Tonight, as soon as I got my console back together I hooked everything up and connected my HDMI cable. When I turned my TV on and selected the HDMI input the PS3 is connected to, the TV says "no signal". I took the PS3 back ap
@MrSkumar5 yeah you did not do something right or you did not plug the power supply in correctly cuz you can break the board in half and put it back in there and it will still at least come on
@scoeas1982 Thanks for your speedy reply, i've checked the power supply many times and it is connected correctly, is it possible that there is permanent damage to the board do to over heating from the gun?
@garretts228 you are 100% right i do it the same as i do on my pc i just put a line in the midel and let the heatsing spred it 4 me it seems to well 4 me
fingerrr....... oh my god you cunt
