@velkoto1 Its not, by a long shot. Its got a joke of an engine. 125bhp per litre and needs 16cyls, and 4 turbos and 8 litres to do it. And it only runs mid 10 second quartermiles, and takes 22 seconds to get to 200mph. There are RX7's that do 200mph in 6 seconds. For a million bucks I would want 2000bhp at least, and mid 7 second quartermiles, but VW doesnt have the expertise to be able to do this. They have no racing heritage, hence the need for a massive, underpowered engine.

That car is made to be the fastest road legal production car in the world. And it is. VW have all kinds of sports heritage. VW owns Audi (Le Mans), Seat (WTCC), Skoda (WRC), Bugatti (no comment), Lamborghini, Bentley and......Porsche owns VW. So if they want to be the best in drag racing I'm pretty sure that's not gonna be a problem for them.

You can't escape the fact that 125bhp per litre is not even a 'tuned' level. VW also did a 6l W12 Bi turbo which was only 600bhp. VW add turbos to engines and make as much power as others without turbocharging.

They could, and exceed the Veyron, but you're never going to see a heavy Ferrari with a gigantic turbo'd engine - because its now how you make a 'supercar'. Its the easy way of making a really fast car. You want comfortable and fast, go buy a new Bentley, drop in a Banks power 2000bhp biturbo V8 - Eat the Veyron, and in comfort. But does it make it a supercar, no....

X amount of power x Y aerodynamic ratio and you can work out what speed you can do. The Veyron does 270, with the trade off of it being slow accelerating (as its geared for 270 instead of 240)and weighing alot. Other cars accelerate faster, lighter and are geared for a lower top end. Horses for corses.
