Wakefield has no integrity, he is a fraud who has attacked the vaccine companies with the aid of lawyer named Richard Barr. He performed potentially harmful tests on human subjects in the search for Measles RNA. He knowingly falsified his results, and he remains unrepentant. Wakefield was working on a new measles vaccine at the time of his study, and the only way his vaccine was going to get into the system was if the MMR vaccine was removed. Therefore, he did have a potential gain, and people are desperate for something to blame for what they see as a disease. Those people who cheered him at his trial represent the desperate, willing to accept anyone who can say with any commitment that he has an answer, regardless of whether or not it is true.

I agree he had a conflict of interest, but surely the Lancet kids' children would notice if he had been a charlatan? One mother commented in "Private Eye" that she's received nothing but the utmost care and compassion from him.
