If you can swing it, I'd start with the first season (this clip being the first part of the pilot of the first season). It's easier to understand the Doctor Who mythology from here, plus it's more fun to see the characters develop!

I have just started watching Doctor who. But there is something I don't understand, why isn't the same actor who plays doctor who now?

Well, sooner or later the actors want to move on to different jobs, so the creators of Doctor Who worked out a scheme whereby the Doctor could 'regenerate'. Every time an actor left, the Doctor would sort of die, then come back to life looking (and even acting) completely different. In the clips I've shown, you can see the two most recent editions of the Doctor: Christopher Eccleston, and David Tennant. All told, ten different men have played the Doctor. Cool, hm?

oh, i do. i love him. he's just very, VERY different from eccleston, and absolutely brilliant in his own way. i think tennant gets more attention because hes younger and cuter and ten got more of the mushy stuff with rose, but nine was just so awesome, and i think he deserves more credit than he ever gets.

amen. I had liked Christopher Eccleston before he appeared in Doctor Who. I knew he was a good actor. I really wish he had stayed in the show for at least 2 seasons before he dissapeared. One season just isn't enough, I feel.
