  • silverface sounds good with the harmonica and the blackface sounds good with guitars

  • the sound example is perfect enough for me I can tell exactly what Im hearing and what Im not hearing.. developed hearing while trying to not be a d*ck

  • I had my Silver Face retro fit to a Black Face configuration with great results. It doesn't take much (actually most of the changes involve removing things...) to do.

Worth it of you look at what a Black Face is worth.

  • I have both and love each one for what it brings~!..

  • the older one sounds way better.

  • So what I get out of this, you should feel guilty if you can afford a good amp?

  • this videos are super fun to watch !

some poeple are too anal about gear and stuff !

cheers and keep em coming !!

  • Hate being a dick about this, but I find the sound in this video about as useful as an mp3 of the mona lisa. For a viewer to make any sort of valid comparison the amps should be micd. Camcorder mic just doesn't cut it.

  • @bilbomarks well i know thx its more of a fun project then a real sound thing, its the player not the gear

  • @Harpsucker Totally agree.

  • @bilbomarks

I dont think so, cause even if they´re micd teh sound will pass trough the camera´s mic, think bout this. We can diferentiate quite wel the tones of both amps..

  • @bilbomarks Hate being a dick about this, but it doesn't seem like you know much about "using your ear". You don't need to mic these amps to hear the difference. If you can't split the sounds up then you must be a rookie. Now go buy yourself a 100 watt solid state amp and get a modern day Blues Blaster.....that'll fix ya right up.....rookie

  • @bilbomarks i notice a difference

  • The Silver was brighter...The Blackface was darker...

  • This guy who makes these videos must be quite rich! Super Reverbs cost more than 1000 bucks..

  • @Juicefani11 if you think i own all these amps then you are on the wrong way

  • @Harpsucker OK... Well... Did you borrow them? XD

  • @Juicefani11 yep

  • @Juicefani11 Who cares if the dude has gear... Of course good gear is pricey. We all know this.

  • @Juicefani11 i have a super reverb and im not rich by anymeans....i also have a bed and a guitar.....and yeah thats about it lol

  • I love 'em both, slightly favor the silverface tonewise. Glen

  • God, both sound like Heaven to me. I lean towards the silver face. I wonder if it was a blind test if the vintage crowd would still prefer the blackface?

  • i have a 1972 silver face a lil rusty though but black face still kicks butt i love vintage tube amps if u plug ur microphone into the first imput jack u get a cleaner sound

  • I don't know why you sold the Silverface, it sounded way better for your usage.

  • @andy92811 still got the silverface, i sold the blackface

  • @Harpsucker smart choice!

  • Blackface is badass and sounds friggin outrageous. SF is great too, but BF has a little warmer sound I think.

  • what's the name of the intro song?

  • @Zarrinkoub zipper by the Bluescasters check out tradebit

  • to me the big one sound better ,is more clean the black face is to warm

  • These silver-face Fenders are classics, and are in fact US made, hand-wired, authentic vintage gems. They sound *good*! We need to stop comparing them directly to their earlier black-face cousins and begin to see them as the unique instances of classic amps that they are. For God's sake, The Beatles used silver-faced Twins for their last public appearance. I own a '74 Twin and '78 Vibrolux Reverb and I wouldn't part with either, for any amount of money, because they give me good tone.

  • Keep the silverface

  • @harlesslee its for sale

  • Beautiful sound. My brother's guitarist has a mid 70's Fender Super Reverb sitting in my garage right now! It's a beautiful amplifier!

  • Blackface gets my vote. What an awesome comparison video. Thanks for posting. You're a fabulous harp player.

  • nice nice sound !

  • Both sound great, but the blackface sounds a little greater. It's just got more of "that" sound.

BTW, for someone just learning harp, who is the best player to listen to? For guitar I think Freddy King is best for beginners -- you can learn all the essential licks from him. Who is the Freddy King of harmonica?

Also, what is a good entry level mic? Are there any new inexpensive ones that can get you, say, 80% of the tone of a classic mic?

  • @1Doz , try Walter Horton, Little Walter, get the Shure 520DX ,its ok,classic sound for a good price

  • @Harpsucker

    Thanks!

  • @Harpsucker How on earth do you not get feedback from either of these amps, I mean you do have a mic plugged in...

  • @mrawesome3351 thats my trick, just a joke, if you turn up these amps just before feedback they are great for harmonica playing

  • 60 rock on

  • very good super ... the silverface have 70watt or same 45 of blackface

  • @paolobiancucci 70 Watts lots of power its for sale

  • is this bad for guitar amps/ the speakers they use? i mean... i guess not because you're playing through them right before my eyes, im just really reluctant to put a mic in front of guitar amps. could i play a harmonica through a JTM45 with 2X12 inch 30 watt speakers?

  • @MyManDan i didnt get it all, but it should be no problem

  • WOW.. Excellent video...! I love the way you keep switchin between amps...

That mic is awesome.. and your playin sounds great...!

Both amps put out some fat sound..!

  • that blackface sounds mean as hell.

  • I hear more clarity with the silver.

  • bad ass dude nice demo I like both if I had to pick I like the blackface it's got that early vintage blues sound.. a little more darker in tone...

  • all these amps and you dont have video with marshall and mesa!!! :(

  • no good for harp

  • thats funny because they are modded fender, and firstly marshall was made for every instruments like microphone, harp, guitar, bass... direct competitor of vox. same thing with mesa and fender but mesa became better quality amp after fender was sold.

  • Awsome! I got an mid 70's super myself = )

  • check out: harmonica - amps. blogspot. com

  • Hallo Harpsucker! Schönes Video, schöne Intro-Musik! Kannst Du sagen wie das Stück heißt? Herzlichen Dank! Daniel

  • das bin ich selber stück heißt Zipper Band sind die original Bluescasters , wo ich mal mitglied war, vergriffen, check mal tradebit $1

  • Danke für die Antwort! Hab schon geschaut!

  • exellent , super son

  • I like them both, maybe the silver more.

  • I'd take the Blackface over the Silverface any day of the week. The Blackface sounds warmer and more powerful. The Silverface registers in my mind as "shrill" in comparison.

  • Both are good amps!! Thanks

  • I was at a demo/masterclass by Lee Oskar in a music store in Toronto about 10 years ago. He was showing how he used guitar effects pedals to get different sounds. He had a few there & one allowed him to sound just like a Jamaican steel drum. Have you ever tried anything like that? He was encouraging people to experiment.

  • yeah i have a Digitech Vocal 300, but i never use it live just for have fun at home

  • Great video and a really intresting comparison!

Also, what do you think of the Shure Black label?

    Keep rockin' !

  • the blck label Shure element is a great element but not for all amps, mostly bigger amps sounding better, for small amps i use mostly Astatic elements
