Haha I remember watching this one. It's still been the sweetest play I've ever witnessed while watching the Super Bowl. I laughed so hard when he put on that oxygen mask!
hands down best play in superbowl history. There have been a lot of great catches over the years, but never a 100 yard interception like this. Plus it saved a possible touchdown the other way; effectively a 14 point swing in a single play.
It's not clipping at 0:12. Section 3.a of the official NFL rulebook states that "It is not a block in the back if the opponent turns away from the blocker." If you watch carefully, you'll see that the Steelers player was in position to block the Arizona player in the shoulder, but the Arizona player slows and turns his back as the Steelers player approaches.
for those of u that are all over fitzgerald for running out of bounds, he actually bumped into I think antrel rolle on the sideline which slowed him down so he actually screwed himself in doing that
This Interception play has to be the best play of all times for the superbowl, if not one of the best for play for the steelers only after the emaculate reception.
What no one ever comments on was Larry Fitzgerald's blatant penalty of running half the length of the field out of bounds (so no one blocks him, which is why it's illegal to do it) then comes back into the field and nearly prevents the touchdown. Now that would have been a travesty.
I will never forget watching this for as long as I live! I got so excited and so psyched that I got sick! i don't mean to be gross, but I was literally cheering SO HARD that i threw up! lol a very proud day for us yinzers
@willludsgoesham Almost. His elbows/knees didn't hit the ground before the ball crossed the plane and his head landed kinda on one of the Cardinals before it hit the ground. It was close though.
LaMarr Woodley blocks Tim Hightower in the back at 0:12. The Refs played for the Steelers that entire game just like when they helped rob the Seahawks a few years earlier.
@bloodin8 yes yes yes you are right, the refs also helped us to get lots of flags in the 4th quarter and the refs also helped us to losse last sb vs the packers...damn refs...FUCK YOU REFS!!!!.....go cry somewhere else you piece of shit n_n .I.
This has to be the #1 play in Superbowl History- I can't think of another play that reaches this magnitude. (unless of course you want to talk about the Ben to Holmes FTW).
@TheonlyDarkoutlook yeah i liked that Helmet catch!! BUT that was more of a flukey, will never happen again type of plays.... this play here Harrison read Warners eyes, then dodged people running up the sideline. This play here is easily the greatest play in Superbowl history. The Helmet catch kinda falls under the Immaculate Reception kinda plays -- if those plays happen 2 Times out of 1000 that would be considered better than expected.
@clarkallard well, correct me if i'm wrong, but wouldn't it be an opinion on whatever play I thought was the #1 play? I'm sure you have your own opinons too, and I'm sure i would disagree and agree with some of them.......eye of the beholder
If Larry had caught James, it would have only been because he was illegally running out of bounds. So even if he'd been flagged for it, the Steelers still wouldn't have gotten the TD and would have had to take a field goal attempt at the end of the half. That would be a penalty on the Cardinals that saves them 4-7 points. By Rolle getting in the way, justice was done. Sucks for the Cardinals, but it's fair.
True but a better option is to just not throw the pick in the first place. lol when you're on the goaline before haltime like that, you HAVE to get it in the endzone. And it's moments like that that separate the champions from runner-ups.
Steelers Rule forever! awesome play, and a game changer too! Packers did it to us in XLV. Been both sides of this story.. But this one was beautiful.. No doubt one of the greatest plays in SB history! Go Steelers Go!
larry fitzgerold is running out of bounds because if the refs had a brain they would of called it, so it would of mattered if antrell rolle was ther anyway thats why they traded him
The best part is watching that dork Warner get knocked on his AZZ during the runback. And Lamar Woodley's block that made it possible for Harrison to get to the end zone was awesome. All the STEELER haters can kiss my butt, this is THE highlight play of all time in a Super Bowl. James Harrison just kicked butt for 100 yards.
@dougalmac54 dude watch the tape the only reason that harrison did not get tackled was HOLDING...im a cardinal fan and i can live with losing ive kinda got used to it but this game was rediculuse
Damn that's pretty much a light defensive end running 100 yards at full speed...and how the whole team was blocking I wish my ravens did stuff like that
i called this play no joke. My friend who was rooting for the cardinals said they were about to score then i said that the steelers would pick it and run it back then this happened.
My dumb ass was at the door paying the Papa Johns' Pizza delivery guy when this happened. Missed the whole freaking play. I felt like the biggest loser. :-(
if you want to know who did the best block on this play, you have to pause the video when james harrison reach 26 or 27 yard line I think is on the second 12 or 13 of the video, there are going to see when a player of the bench (NUMBER 21 OF THE BENCH OF CARDINALS) blocked larry fitzgerald's not so, Larry Fitzgerald had tackled before scoring
haha, Kenan Thompson made fun of him on Saturday Night Live for this because he collapsed and needed oxygen, and also, he didn't want to visit the White House
@Inforcer1 If he would have tackled him, it would have been illegal. He ran down the field out of bounds and runs back in, it still should have penaliezed, because he ran back in and tried to make a play on the ball.
@Inforcer1 Actually, NFL rules say that a defender (Larry Fitzgerald) cannot run out-of-bounds to tackle the ball carrier. The intensity of the play itself, the Booth's review, and the Flag on Reggie were too much for the Booth to take time to look in the rule book.
@Inforcer1 Larry was running out of bounds. Should have been flagged if he could have made the tackle (Still love the guy because of his outstanding play at Pitt)

i love this!!! Steelers are my fave team, we even have a signed helmet, signed by james harrison, and now 3 of us at my house have his jersey, WE <3 HARRISON!!!!!!!!!!! hate the illegal hit (bullshit)
Offsetting penalties brother. The refs also missed the unsportsmanlike by Fitzgerald who ran 40 yards down the sideline OUT OF BOUNDS TO AVOID BLOCKERS to make the tackle at the goal line.
@rileytwist88 You must not have watched much NFL. Marcus Allen's 74 yard touchdown run, the double miracle/great escape, both those plays were superior. NFL history wise, sea of hands, immaculate reception, the catch, all of those were superior plays, that's just naming a few of them.
@gamelvr1 Marcus Allen's run was spectacular, but this is the most amazing play I have seen in Superbowl history and I've been watching the NFL a long time.
If James Harrison gets fined y doesnt Bobby McCray get fined for knocking out Kurt Warner, why doesnt Lawrence Taylor get fined for ending Joe Theismanns career? Its a game of hittting!

go PITTSBURGH!!!! THIS IS NOT JUST THE BEST PLAY IN SUPER BOWL HISTORY BUT THE BEST PLAY IN NFL HISTORY IN MY OPINION
