  • hey ed, what are those cables you're using? i think my dad brought me a few of those same cables (they atleast look the same) that were just lying around in his friend's garage. they don't really work though.

  • How much does the 00Funk go for

  • 0:38

    Ed, you're looking like a pimp :D

  • Ed, thanks for the great contribution that you make providing such a great demos, and at the best quality you can get. I really like the demos that you make for fuzz pedals. Would you be willing to review the ZVEX Woolly Mammoth? it's a great pedal, but I have not seen a decent demo anywhere so far, and who's better than you to get it done? Hope you take this comment into consideration,

    Thanks!

  • @emiyalyson10 - Thanks, glad you like the demos. I'm willing to review the ZVEX, but someone has to pay me first. This is a job, not something I do for kicks.

  • Jesus. Someone finally made a pedal that combines the sound of insects fucking with a fart.

  • wow man... you can lay down any line and itll sound funky as hell.. this is awesome

  • The first time i remotely heard any thing that sounded like this it was Bootsy Collins

Back in the 70s.' Where is the Bootsy switch' ? Shame on you (CHUNK SYSTEMS)

  • @blueman2bass - Chunk Systems is one of many companies that make Envelope Filters. Bootsy did not invent them, though he popularized them for sure. I'd love to see a company PAY Bootsy to put his name on one of these, but it would add to their cost, and make them more expensive. If you feel you must shame Chunk Systems, don't forget to add MXR, EHX, Mutron (which is what Bootsy used), Boss, etc. to a very long list of companies that "deserve" your outrage.

  • @BassGuitarMag Bootsy Collings did a pedal with Snarling Dogs, and it was a manual wah, I guess everyone sells out lol

  • Mr Friedland,

Ive been watching all your product reviews, and i have a question.

i saw your MXR envelope filter vid and the el grande fuzz pedal vid.

forget price,... what would you personally recommend for expressiveness,

the chunk system. the mxr pair i asked or maybe another duo yu might know of.

ive been playing for two yrs an di play mostly ( in order of most played)

funk, reggae, rock , blues,.. not so much metal or jazz,... but im still learning

  • @KennyD88 - well, the are both similar types of pedal but have different tones and feels. I personally am using the MXR Envelope, and for fuzz I use the MXR M80 DI+. The El Grande is super hot and a little tricky to control unless you want face melt all the time. The Chunk stuff is great too, the serial connection helps them work together nicely.... Can't say which is better, but I'm using the

    MXR stuff personally.

  • Ed, I just received this pedal and none of the settings are seeming to work for me properly. I am using a 25th Anniversary Stingray HSS. I noticed you are using a Stingray as well (at least I'm pretty sure it is). I was told that I need to turn the sweep way down because my signal is too hot for the pedal. But it does not appear that you are having any issues like this. The pedal does not respond at times or is causing a warble noise. Any help would be appreciate in what I can do.

  • @jesuswasarobot - Well, I'm afraid I don't know how to be of help. I can't diagnose your problem via the internet, and I don;t have the pedal in front of me. Try it with the bass in passive mode too, but if you have fresh batteries (or use a power supply) and can't reproduce anything similar to the settings in the video, it might be defective.

  • Any pedal with brown and chunk in it would lead one to believe that it's shit. But, it's not, it's great!

  • i like everything about the brown dog except the price....

  • at about 5:40 I got so excited I let out a little moan. SSOO tasty.

  • What colour is your Sterling? It looks great!

  • @GRANKOR - It's called Olive Gold, but is sadly discontinued....

  • @BassGuitarMag Thanks for that Ed, I'll keep an eye out for a used one :)

  • do you use the FX loop in your amp or straight (bass>pedals>amp input)?

  • @kangkongnilaga - I plug straight into the effects, then into the amp.

  • your the man! Can i be your apprentice!? :P

  • @MMAfan1748 - Sure, you can start by walking the dogs and cutting the lawn....

    ;)

  • @BassGuitarMag I seriously would!!! hahaha I would do anything :P

  • Hey Ed, can you please review the BP200 pedal from Digitech. Thanks

  • Hi, Ed.

Have you ever tried playing a six-string Ibanez BTB bass? Would you recomend it? I play funk and rock/prog.

  • @TheBasselusk - No, haven't tried it.

  • @TheBasselusk I have an older Ibanez high end BTB from when they still had Ibanez pickups instead of Bartolinis. The Ibanez stock pickups have an annoying treble response without being EQ'd, but after EQ it sounds great and I've been able to get all kinds of tones with it either through the a GK amp or a small Fender combo I have. I imagine the Bartolinis will get rid of that awful treble response when EQ'd flat, and sound a lot smoother. The neck is thick, and wide with a large taper.

  • genial, te felicito

  • all i could think about with the agent fuck was good old BOOTSY! haha i love some good funk, i have to get one of those, is that a good pedal for someone who dosnt own one yet, and is it any good for slap bass effects??? if it souds like bootsy i would think so =)

  • It's a great pedal for someone that doesn't own one yet.... If you already owned one, I wouldn't suggest buying it.

Yes, it works great with slap.

  • alright cool thanks man =)

  • 1:47 - love that riff, can you send me sheet music or tab?

  • Sorry, no tabs. Nothing is written down, just figure it out by ear. You can do it.

  • is that bass active? if it is why did you think it was best for this video?

  • Yes, it is active. Why? It just sounded the best with the pedals (in my opinion).

  • Ed,

Have you had a chance to try the EHX Enigma? If so, how would you say the 00Funk II compares?

    Thanks, great work as always!

  • Nope, never tried that one.

  • 4:24 hahaha

  • How about the Brown Dog completely wet without any clean signal blended in. Also,...how much do these pedals go for ;)

  • I didn't try that because I like to have my clean signal blended in. I'm sure it would be over the top. How much? try google.

  • I can dig the blended signal (I use an LS-2 with a muff style fuzz) and your tone is legit for sure. Just thought I'd throw it out there and see if you'd bite with a video response :D. As far as the "how much" that was just a friendly jab since CS pedals are expensive and the pair would be up there. Very worth it IMO though. Great Vid. Thanks

  • You're welcome. No prob, I should know the price off hand, But yeah, they ain't cheap, but nothing worth having ever is right?

  • Do u think i could get some beatle fuzz bassline effect? such as the white album has? although it was used a guitar (fender barítono) instead of a bass. YOu can hear the sound of it in "Back in the Urss", "everybody´s got something to hide.."

  • This pedal will definitely get that sound.

  • 50's P-bass FTW!!!!

  • How 'bout a mini review of the 9.0/NeoX212?

Do you find the 9.0 drives the cab too hard?

I'm thinking of swapping my Aguilar rig (AG500SC/GS212) for Genz Benz (6.0-9.0/NeoX212).

    As always, great review.

  • No, the 9.0 is killer with the Neo212. I won't be reviewing that, but you just heard a little bit of what it can do.

  • did you get rid of the GB 4x10 cab??

  • No way!

  • Ok. Cause i saw you were using your 2x15 in this one and was like whhhaattt???

  • It's a 212. I thought the effects sounded better with the 12s. Just my opinion.

  • oh my bad. I figured it had to do something with the effects sounding better through it.

  • Great review! You have the nautical look going and those pedals could probably kill a whale!

Thanks for all the killer reviews!

  • Hey, the Bass Whisperer seems to get caught in a black hole at the end!

Are those pedals so groovy they can create spatial-temporal distorsion?

    Nice review!

  • That is possibly the sexiest thing I've ever heard

  • Thanks for the reviews ed.

Damn these are expensive. 325 for the Funk Mark II? Hope it's worth it.

  • just a question, my bass can get a really nice sound but no matter what i do, the low string is always much louder than the rest of my strings and it really ruins my live sounds....any suggestions?? ( I use a Sterling Bass)

  • Sounds like you need to adjust your pickup height. Drop the bass side of the pickup down a bit, that will help.

  • superb review. what happened to the uber 410? seems like you're using the 212 once again

  • I tried both, and I felt these pedals sounded better out of the 212. I still use the Uber 410 most of the time, but it's sure nice to have a choice.

  • That riff at 3:05-3:22 was incredible! Thanks Ed.

  • "up in here they call this the mahem zone"

  • 1:47 - 2:35 Synthy sounds a lot like fuzzy?

The tracking on the Purple Agent 00Funk Pedal is very impressive......As expensive as it is, nothing beats analog!

  • Pretty awesome!

  • Bootsy down low in the shockwave

  • ace stuff

  • your videos rock the house! great sounds, top performing!

  • Those pedals are pretty sweet...

I'm more of an all-in-one digital pedal fan though.

  • the Brown Dog is sooooo good...

    It's pretty expensive., like $260

  • Bootsy Collins... THe first thing that came to my mind in the first 3 seconds of this video... ))))

  • "brown dog" sounds dirty and "double-oh funk" is really funny in a corny weird way :P .. I wonder how much these cost..?

  • Ed "Bootsy" Friedland :D

  • PEDALS! WOOOOOOOO!

  • COOL
